I have a problem here, I need to specify each student standing based on their total mark, respective course, and whole course,(from datagridview) for example,[code]Eg result(output):
-studentA number two in thier course(2/3), but number fourth on the whole course(4/7)
-studentC number one in their course(1/3), but second on the whole course(2/7).
-studentE number one in thier course(1/3), and number one on the whole course(1/7)

I have created a class called Student, with five private variables: [code] My main form is divided into a number of different sub procedures. In one of them, I used a streamreader to take the first name, last name, and phone numbers of a list of records in a text file called PersonalInfo.txt. It seems to work just fine. [code] I have another, separate sub procedure in which I read a different text file containing the "averages" for the students. The first average from Averages.txt belongs with the first student in PersonalInfo.txt. The second average goes with the second student.. How do I add the student average information to the properties of the student records created in the previous sub procedure? [code] I realize why this wouldn't work, but I can't figure out how I could use my counter to reference a specific student.

Problem in VisualBasic 10 on Windows 7 OS I have a form which has 30 lines for user input in format <textbox for Name> <comboBox for Type> <comboBox for Quality> <NumericUpDown for Amount> At the start of each line is a CheckBox. The intention is this enables/Disables the line. I have associated each object with an Array - eg
Dim Name(30) As Textbox
etc
and assigned
Name(1)=Name1

ie enable/disable the boxes on a line dependent on whether CheckBox is Checked The Sub for Picked_Changed refuses to allow referenced to the arrays within, even if not generated by the picking of box (see above - it allowed '=Men3.Value' but not 'Men(3).Value', although the button sub is fine with this)

The pay rates for the project are:
a. Level 1 - $10.00
b. Level 2 - $12.00
c. Level 3 - $14.00
d. Level 4 - $16.00
e. Benefit Deduction Rate - 0.10
f. Overtime Factor - 1.5
For ease of program maintenance, all of the above rates and factors must be stored in module level constants. All references to pay rates in the program must refer to the module level constants.
When the Calculate button is clicked:
a. The value in the Hours text box must be validated to insure that it is numeric value greater than zero.
1. If the value is not valid, a message box must appear as shown below and the user must be offered the option to continue processing or quit the program.
2. If the user chooses to continue processing, the focus must be set to the Hours text box.
3. If the user chooses to quit, the program must close immediately.
b. If the value is valid, the program must calculate and display the total pay in the Total Pay label.
1. The pay rate is determined by which Job Grade radio button is checked.
2. For hours less than or equal to 40, the total pay is the hours times the pay rate.
3. For hours greater than 40, the total pay is 40 hours times the pay rate plus the hours in excess of 40 hours times the pay rate times the Overtime Factor.
4. If the Full Time radio button is selected, the total pay must be reduced by the Benefit Deduction Rate.
5. The value displayed in the Total Pay label must be formatted with a dollar sign and with two decimal
places.
6. The focus must be set to the Hours text box.

I am working with VB 2008. I want to be able to run this program say in N: and it will show me in an excel sheet the following:
Folder Path Size(GB) Count of Files
N:Clients 0.53 308
where clients contains subfolders and files and the size is the total of all those files within each folder and the count is the total within each folder also.
This works fine as it is but i have to select one by one the top level folders and some of them are huge so it takes forever to give me an answer.
1) I would like to see in my spreadsheet the following by only select the network drive n:
Folder Path Size(GB) Count of Files
N:Clients 0.53 308
N:Software 10.7 15430
N:Billing 0.98 105
2) I would also like to know if this is the faster method.
3) I tried adding a progress bar so that the user can have an idea of how much this will take but i had to remove because it was not working.
4) I would like to see the folder name, size of folder and count of files in the listview.

i've a treeview in my project form which look like this.[code]The user will be able to upload their pages to the respective pages nodes and I am suppose to make it in such a way that after the user uploaded the cover page which is showing at the PictureBox1 which I've use to display the image, and when he uploads the second page image at the PictureBox1, the Cover page image that he uploaded earlier on will not be overwrite.I was told to create class and use array to store the contain in the respective nodes but I do not have any idea how to do it.Is there any other ways about solving this problem? I am using VS 2008/VB with Access 2007. I have 2 forms that I use to create entries. In the first form (fomr1) I select the type of entry which opens the respective form (form. In form1 I use some code to read through a oledbreader the id rows and get the max value in that column. I take that value and I add 1 to it and then assign the value to a textbox in form2. The whole process worked fine until today which gives me this exception "An error occurred creating the form. See exception.innerexception for details. The error is Object reference not set to an instance of an object. "

My requirement is that, I have a folder containing some pdf files. These files are named as 1,2,3 ..so on. I have a table where I store the pdf file name with a user

I'm trying to check if a LINQ Entity exists in its table, but at design time I dont know what type that entity is. So I figure I'll just get the table, and try the Contains method on it. But I cant get the table in such a way that I can query it at design time.I've tried the GetTable method on the datacontext, but I dont know how to cast it to the appropriate type when using GetTable(Of). GetTable(Type) works, I just use Entity.GetType(), but then I don't know how to query the ITable thats returned.To try and cast the ITable to something useable, I created an interface(IWhatever) that could implement properties that are native to all of my entities I would encounter. The latest assignment from my teacher was to create a console program where the user enters a character and the respective ASCII value in Denary, Hexadecimal and Binary, Even Parity, Odd Parity and Hamming code is returned.I've managed to implement all of them except the latter with relative ease, I am familiar with the concept of Hamming code and can compute it easily by hand, but don't really know how to implement it as a function in my program. I'm new to forums as well as new to VB 2008. I'm in process of making a order calculator which will total any values you selected in combo boxes/checkboxes and then display it in a selected area. There are 3 things that I want to achieve: 1. Be able to add another total to an existing total (currently I'm able to see only one total when I hit "Calculate" button)2. Display how many orders I have made so far (new total counts as one order)3. Be able to add up checkboxes selected to an overall total. (when I try to add up one checkbox with another it seems to be stuck on 1.5 pounds which I assigned for each "side order")

The idea of this program is to calculate and find total and average for 3 Students automatically. That is when the first data is entered and click on button the total and average of first student should be displayed in listbox. And we should be able to enter second data. Bu the problem is it is just printing the first average and total thrice.

Ok I have a search Button that will search through a student table and produce the grades of all the stdents in a class room when I enter the class room number into a textbox(txtclass.Text). The results will be displayed in a DataGridView and also I have the average grade of the class displayed in another textbox(marks.Text).
My program runs fine but I would like to add more code so that If I enter a wrong classrom number into the search textbox and Search for it then I would like a messagebox to pop up and say that the classrom you have entered does not exist. .I have tried different if statements but none has worked for me so far.

I'm reviewing a midterm visual basic exam question that I got didn't code correctly and I cannot figure out what I'm doing wrong.
The problem is:"Figure 7.4 contains an array of survey responses that is hard-coded (1-5) into the program. Suppose we wish to process survey results that are stored in a file. First, create an application that enables the user to write survey responses to a file. Use StreamWriter to create a file called SurveyResponses.txt and write each response on a separate line. Modify the code in fig. 7.4 to read the survey responses from SurveyResponses.txt by using StreamReader. THe program should continue to read responses until it reaches the end of file. The results should be output to a text box."
Note:the output of figure 7.4 is as follows and the frequency is incremented when a user submits a response.

My issue is that I use StreamReader and StreamWriter to allow the user to select a location to save the file and to open the file. I believe VB must automatically create a file and automatically open it, which I cannot figure out how to do it.
