I am trying to add controls to a collection runtime(toolstripmenus to a menustrip) However, when I try to loop through the collection, it says something like: "Collection has been edited. Listing function cannot be done" (it's a free translation since i have a finnish VB)

I have a Combobox in DropDown mode. I have the code for handling the selected list item in the Validating event of the Combobox If the user highlights the text in the Combobox and presses the Delete key, the text is deleted The user then clicks the MenuStrip and the dropdown menu appears.

And I can't figure out how to remove these items as I already deleted the parent items.I tried deleting it from the properties menu by pressing delete on it but it doesn't work.

I'm using VS2008, writing an app in VB.Net (3.5 framework), and I have a custom control which recieves a collection (each item in the collection has an image, and 2 text fields).When populating this at design time, it's nice and easy to do either in code, or even better through the very useful "Collection Editor" (in terms of user friendliness, at least).What I'd like to do is give my end users a similar Collection Editor interface, on my main form, to be able to add to and remove from this collection in a similar way to how it's done in the IDE. This is new territory for me, and I really don't know how to achieve this
View 3 RepliesBuilding a MP3 player fairly large but will upload the zip file if needed. It almost compelted. I am stuck on one thing I want to be able to create a playlist collection based on the name the user enters into a textbox and name the collection with that name if the user enters mysongs as the name the collection would be named mysongs. I know how do declare a new collection but there is no way to change the name to mysongs I am not limited to collections it could be an array or a list of strings my thought here is to save the list of mysongs to a collection to find the list if it already exists and open the list if found to a listbox I know how to go through the list and put results in a listbox. Maybe a collection of collections is not the right way to handle this?
View 3 RepliesI'm a bit confused here. I'm copying all the controls from one form to a panel on the main form and for some reason only about half of them copy.

When stepping through the code, serverDic(selection).Controls has 12 elements, but only 6 of them get copied. Next time this gets called, only 3 get copied. Does Panel1.Controls.clear() somehow kill the references?

I often see code snippets for handling each control of a certain type on a form or panel, etc.They always start with For Each ctrl and the do a test for control type.Many .NET users are not aware, as I was not until I tried it recently, that we can LINQ on the controls collection.Below is a simple sub I created for resetting every checkbox on a panel I use as a validator.

Within the application, each time a form is loaded, it iterates through every control and tests to see if that control is defined in the XML file. If it is, it then sets the control text to whatever localized text is defined in the XML file.
There are some tests and additional requirements (i.e. nested loops) for TabControl and MenuStrip etc., but the control that is giving me the most trouble is the ContextMenuStrip.[code]...

Is there a way to check the controls collection for a specific id? Or am I going to have to write a sub to loop through the existing controls in the collection checking for the id.
I have a small piece of code that iterates through the controls collection on a panel (below) Everything works fine until I want to focus on a control that doesn't support the selectall method i.e. a datetimepicker. Is there any way of determining the type of control and not call the selectall method when the type is datetimepicker. All my other controls support it so that's the only one I need to exclude.

View 12 RepliesI'm trying to make a collection class for buttons to address them as a whole, only I want to design the buttons at design time, and not add/set their properties programatically at runtime. Each button has its own image, so it doesn't seem right to add a bunch of lines of code which assign the properties when they're always going to be the same thing.Is it possible to create the controls at design time and then add them to an array at runtime? I did this, iterating through the buttons on the form and adding each of them to the class below.The problem is that once they're added they seem to be a different instance because changing their positions has no effect on the design-buttons on the form. Essentially i wanted the collection to be a reference to the items belonging to the form.Is that possible or should I be doing this a different way?[code]

Now run it. do you have a button on the form? if yes, excellent. if not, you made a mistake. try again now how to add code? you may have noticed that when you double click on any control, it says private sub button1_click(blah, blah, blah) Handles button1.click where it says handles button1.click is what determines when the code executes under what event for what control (in this case the click event for the button1). this won't work when adding code at runtime. did you notice in the above example i added a with event, and addHandler? this is what creates the handler (same as Handles button1.click)

Above, the addressOf button1_click tells the program to execute the sub button1_click when the button is clicked on (as determined by .click) but i know what you're thinking! your thinking "why would we even BOTHER doing this at runtime? isn't it easier to do it at design-time in the first place?" yes it is, providing your not writing a plugin. plugins are code based, not GUI (also reffered to as WYSIWYG). to update existing forms using plugins, you need to use this method.

I did something that when I now load my program(VB 2008), my controls; combo boxes, buttons, progress bar, etc. look like they are from VB 2005 or like VBA buttons, not the rounded edge buttons of 2008.
They look like vb 2008 controls while I am in design view, but then they change their style when I run the program..
