View 1 RepliesI have a desktop application which reads files from a specified folder, then deposits the files to a folder in a third party document management system based on criteria that the user provides.
is it possible to somehow provide different parameters to the code, depending on which shortcut of the application the user clicked on to start it up?
what is the simplest way to add/remove app icon to startup folder...so much work to do and so many choices to choose from...

Clicked on User's desktop, I created Shortcut to User's desktop, changed the properties Target and Working Folder as 'Application Folder'But it does not connect with MyApplication.exe When I ran the setup and tested Desktop short cut, it took me to the folder where application was installed, instead of running the application. How to make the application run using this shortcut?

View 4 RepliesTrying to remove shortcuts from a contextmenu at runtime. The shortcuts are added at runtime btw.
Private Sub conmnu_xsyn_PopupOpen(sender.....
conmnu_xsyn_undo.Shortcuts.Add(eShortcut.CtrlZ)
conmnu_xsyn_redo.Shortcuts.Add(eShortcut.CtrlY)
[code]....
This works fine, but now I'm trying to remove them when the contextmenu closes. I've tried several events (popupclose, disposed) , but nothing seems to work. Perhaps someone know how it actually works. The code I use to remove a shortcut is simply:
conmnu_xsyn_undo.Shortcuts.Remove(eShortcut.CtrlZ)
When I programmatically create a shortcut to a folder like this:
CODE:
All works fine.
But I need multiple shortcuts. I tried this:
CODE:
But it seems that VB NET is creating the shortcuts over the previous ones and all that I have after runtime is the last one - a shortcut to C:.
How can I create multiple shortcuts to multiple folders in the same folder?

I am currently developing some application that's useful for me. And now I have one doubt about something.. My form has 15px Height and 100% screen Width, and it's located at 0,0 coordinates. This means that vissualy, it's little small.I've seen many applications that for preventing this kind of visual method from being positioned above desktop icons and windows, they manage to "Displace" everything down.[url]...

View 6 RepliesIn a VB.NET Winforms application, I have a form that contains both a datagridview and a textbox. I have some menu item entries that have shortcuts of Ctrl + X, Ctrl + C, and Ctrl + V that operate on the datagridview. However, these override the default cut, copy, and paste shortcuts for the textbox. How can I make the menu shortcuts only apply when the datagridview has focus?
View 2 RepliesI am trying to create a setup file which would automatically install a link to the executable in the User's Desktop and Startup--> Program. However despite following all the steps in the right order I do not see any short cut in the desktop and Start -> Program.

View 4 RepliesIn a solution with multiple projects, one project that compiles to a .exe and a .dll has hitherto been successfully included in the Application Folder list and worked fine. After a recent revision to that project I deleted the .exe reference in the Application Folder list to remove both files prior to using Add > File to relist the new versions, but somehow although the .exe has gone the .dll remains in the listing and I now can't get rid of it - the right-click Delete function is disabled, and I can't see another way to remove this orphan file reference. Also if I now Add > File and point to the new .exe to bring it into the File System Application Folder list, after a couple of seconds the whole VS environment closes without an error message and I have to open VS again to restart.
Does anyone know how to unscramble this - presumably by editing something to remove the orphan .dll from the list? I use VS-2010 but this solution was imported and updated from VS-2005 some months ago, and since then has been fine.
I've written a very simple form application that launches a bunch of shortcuts. There's one particular one I want to launch, but it's got a lot of switches with special characters. I can't figure out how to make the switches/arguments into a string so that VB2010 will pass it to the executible cleanly.. Here's what I did, I'm sure it's laughable, but I guess everyone starts somewhere:
Private Sub Button11_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button11.Click
Dim MyString As String = ","/CitrixShortcut: (1) /QLaunch "CHCFarm:Citrix Console""
Process.Start("C:Program FilesCitrixICA Clientpnagent.exe",MyString)
End Sub
i deleted my previous start up form to be replaced by another one but each time i launch the application, the deleted start up form is still displayed.i dont know from where this deleted start up form is being loaded.
View 3 RepliesI want to be able to make my programme create a folder on startup. Basically by that, I mean whenever the programme is started up on a new machine, it will create a specific folder that later on, it can put files into. Also does anybody know how I can stop it from doing this every-time on a machine that its already created the folder on?

View 1 RepliesHow would I create a shortcut of my exe file when its run, I can work out the directories and stuff but how would I actually create the program that it starts when windows boots?
I have done quite a few google searches and have found nothing to interesting or useful but I did find out that there is two main ways of doing this registry or startup folder and im more pulled into the startup folder because I dont think that I yet know enough about controlling the registry to be confident of using code like that, so I fall to my other alternative using the startup folder to trigger my program, I read somewhere that this doessn not work for vista but im not sure of that. What I would like to as is how you actually create a shortcut as I cant really understand VB6 Code very well its all I could find.
i want the program to run on startup using the startup folder, NOT the registry.i cannot find anything on the startup folder.whenever people ask about the startup folder, all the replies are about the registry. i am beginning to think that the startup folder is some kind of government secret.
View 1 RepliesI was having trouble before editing the registry on a WPF application I'm working on, in order to get autostart to work, so I ended up creating a shortcut in the startup folder to automatically start the application. My problem is, that this not working on Windows 7 (and Im guessing Vista too). Here's my code. Does Environment.SpecialFolder.Startup not work on Windows 7?
Dim PathToStartupFolder As String = Environment.GetFolderPath(Environment.SpecialFolder.Startup)
If File.Exists(PathToStartupFolder & "Application.Exe.LNK") = False Then
Dim ShellObject As New IWshRuntimeLibrary.WshShell
[code]....
how can I get the shared startup folder? My application is set to add a shortcut to the startup folder, but it isnly for that user, and I'd like it to automatically start for any user on the machine.I know you can do this by adding a registry key, but I'm having trouble getting my registry key code to work in this WPF app.

View 7 RepliesIn VB.NET I used wscript.shell to add a shortcut to the desktop. I didn't realize it created the shortcut on the "All Users" desktop, which means I can't delete it. I don't have admin rights as this is my work computer, and asking for admin isn't an option. WScript.Shell has a createshortcut method but not a remove shortcut method! I've been googling for days with no luck. Windows XP Pro 2002, SP3.
