in my form_load sub i added a line to enter a new row when the form is loaded by using me.bindingsource.AddNew()Is there anyway i could tell it to only add a new line only if the rows are empty, the table does have a primary key column where its seed is 8000 i dont know if this would make a difference to how you would make it work

View 1 RepliesI think I started out with a misunderstanding of what happens with addnew() and canceledit().
I have a strongly typed datasource in memory.
I call bindingsource.AddNew()
Later I find that the record the user was trying to add already exists, so
bindingsource.CancelEdit()
I have not set any properties other than datasource on the bindingsource.
My assumption was that the CancelEdit() would rollback the blank row added by the AddNew(), but I'm getting some odd errors which lead me to believe this is not true.
Could someone verify that CancelEdit() leaves the new row?
Im using a bindingsource to add new records to my db using bindingsource.addnew()When this is evoked, it seems to automatically increment the recordcount and then blanks out the content of every bound to that tables bindingsource. So that all fields in the new record have to be filled in manually.I would like to be able to pre-fill some of the data in the new record. for instance, when a user adds a new record, have a specific column in the new record automatically populate with the selectedvalue of a combobox.I assume this means I may have to manually code up my own addnew routine, but google has let me down on where to start.

View 7 RepliesFor a WinForms VB.Net application, I use the Bindingsource's filtering capacity to filter data, which is seen in a DataGridview. The BindingSource is from a DataSet, created using the Designer, and the data comes from a Access DB, using JetEngine and .Net 3.5. So basically:
Datagridview.Datasource = xxBindingSource
xxBindingsource.Filter = "[extended filter string with multiple columns]"
This filtering works fine, however, now I included some extra columns in the DataGridView, which I'd like to filter on, too. Of course, when I feed the manually added columns to the Filter of the BindingSource, this doesn't work out.I've done some research, and was not able to find any way to use the BindingSource's filtering syntax on the DataGridview. I'd like to use this syntax though, as I designed quite a nice UserControl and class around it, to provide smooth, fast and simple filtering capabilities.
My problem with AddNew. It really is somewhat simple, but I can't figure out the solution. I have a form where I show a list of my rows with a given a table. The user can then select a row and press clone, which then will try to make a copy of that row.
Here is a snippet:

.... and continue to copy the rest of the data to the newrow...One of the items in the row is obviously a primary key called id. I can not copy this data since I am creating a new row. My problem is, how do I set that value!? or atleast retrieve the value for the newly added table. I need that value so that I can call another form to actually allow the user to modify this newly cloned data. I tried using EndEdit, UpdateAll, no worky. THen I thought I could assume that the newly added row would go at the end of the table so I used MovedLast then got the currentRow id from there... That worked well until we did some deletes within the table.

I am trying to test the Forward and Backwards capabilities.. but if you do the following:

It doesn't run the DocumentLoaded or the Navigated() event until it is to late. To run integrated tests I would need to either wait for the result.. Or does the URI even get loaded at all if the Control is not visible?
I am using the given code to copy my database files...it works like a charm in debug mode but as soon as I create a setup, it stops working. The error is

I have a program I've been working on for some time now and I'd like to try to streamline it somewhat. I have a main menu form that has a split panel, in the left panel is a treeview that displays forms you can open and when one is selected, it opens in a child window in the right panel. Each time I open form I called DWNForm, it does a series of dataset loads which are the populating items for a series of listviews.
What I would like to do is have these datasets load once during the mainMenu load and then have the DWNForm be able to access the datasets once it is called from the treeview selection.
I am trying to use a progressbar to show on main form and then finish when next form is loaded, I have got this code.
1. When I click on button, it must open next form, but the next form must only open when the data in my list box has been loaded from Access Databse. When I run my program, it only shows the progressbar and don't open the next form.

I've built a dialogbox with a RichTextBox and I'd like to have the following behaviour:
I've got the focus (cursor) in the RichTextBox. When the ENTER key is pressed, then there should be a new line in the rich edit control created. The ENTER should NOT close the dialog box [as it does now :-( ].
I find that each time there is a new line when enter key is press in VB intellisense is annoying. Although space is ok, but each time it has a new space and I have to press return to remove it, which is also inconvienient for multiple selections.

View 4 RepliesI have a richtextbox which has CSV values in each line. Whenever a line is inserted, after pressing a command button the program lets the user know how many categories each line has.
Example:
Line1: a,b,c,d,e
Line2: x,y,z
Pressing the command button would say: Line1: 6 categories, Line2: 3 categories. This works fine, except from when I want a line to NOT contain any categories.

I understand that VB recognizes the vbCrlf on Line2 as a char, hence a 'category', hence the line is not empty. But what happens when I want to consider a line as empty (ie Line2:0 categories)? Should I go with something like if txt.line(i).text = vbcrlf then...? This solution seems kind of like bypassing the problem instead of actually solving it.. Or maybe it's just me?

For index As Integer = ListView1.Items.Count -1 the above line assumes that on the last line the person has hit the enter button which is VBCrLf(carriage return and Line Feed) in which case the above line would be ok..however if the last line does not contain a CrLf then you in effect are skipping the last line.

I am learning VB.NET and as a first task I am creating a login form. I've been trying to link it to another form once a correct username and password are entered. However, despite that I still cant be able to hide it or unload it once the next form is loaded.
