using the Add method in a custom class to add child objects to a parent.
Using the listview as an an example, to add a new ListViewItem to a ListView, you use the syntax:
ListView1.Items.Add(text)
I understand that this is adding a new object to the Items Collection, but what I don't understand is how to create this Add method and specify the object to be added as a specific type (in this case the type being System.Windows.Forms.ListViewItem)
how (using the above example) Items is declared in the ListView object class, and how the Add method is used to add ListViewItem SPECIFICALLY to that collection.
I am trying to create an list or an array of a class. Here is my "Ingredient" class that I am trying to create a list of:[code]In my "recipe" class, I am want to create a list (or array) and I am drawing a big blank on how to do it. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
I'm looking for a tutorial on how to Adding a list(of Class) or Collection as another Class's Property. What I am after is something like the Columns Collection for the DatagridView control.I would like to add Items in the graphics screen. Where the item list is displayed in the left panel and the selected Item properties are displayed in the right panel.
I have a class library in VB.NET that does a NET-envelope for an USB device driver. There is only one function of that driver that I could not envelope in a traditional class, but I had to put it in a Windows Service as described here:Sharing a class property (field) between applications. The Windows Service works fine, but I have now two projects for my NET-envelope: the one with the class library, the second with the windows service and I do not like the idea to maintain two distinct projects for the same driver. Is it a good practice (or even if possible) to add a windows service class to a normal class library (without creating its own project as described in the vb tutorial)?I know, in any case I should create a separate setup only for the windows service, but in this way I could have together all the classes that envelope my usb device driver in only one project.
I can't seem to figure this out. I basically am trying to write a class, not a usercontrol, that can show up in the ToolBox. I want it to act similar to how a ContextMenuStrip or BindingSource does, in that there is no UI when you throw in on the Form, it goes down to that bottom part (name?).
1) What do you call those types of components?
2) Why won't this test class that I wrote do the same thing?
vb.net Imports System.Windows.Forms Imports System.Runtime.InteropServices <ClassInterfaceAttribute(ClassInterfaceType.AutoDispatch), ComVisibleAttribute(True), _ System.ComponentModel.ToolboxItemAttribute(True), System.ComponentModel.DesignTimeVisible(True)> _ Public Class FilterMenuStrip
[Code]...
If I try to add it to the ToolBox, I get a "There are no components in '<The DLL>' that can be placed on the toolbox."
I have a class that represents the table of a db-row. Its properties are the columns of the table. I add a new row to the table with the following code:
Public Sub AddRow(oTestRow As TestRow) Dim sql As String With oTestRow
[Code]....
That is just an example, but my classes have around 30-40 properties and this brings a very large and complex sql string. Creating, editing or maintaining these sql strings for many classes could generate errors. I am wondering if any compact way or method exists in order to add the whole object's istance (the properties of course) to the table "TestTable" without writing such a large sql string. I created the TestRow in the way that its properties are exactly the columns of the table "TestTable" (with the same name). But I did not found in the ADO.NET anything that could be used.
I have a function in a Class that executes some code, in the function I am trying to populate the ListBox1 on another form but I am having trouble. Here is what I tried so far:
vb 'bellow data is in class function Dim INDEX As Index ' location to ListBox1
I have a class library called Encrypt.dll that I added to my project (that class encrypts strings..). I have a problem that when I drag the app out of the Release folder, it crashes, giving me this error:Could not load file or assembly 'Encryption_Class, Version=1.0.0.0...' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. What am I doing wrong?I added it from the Reference tab->Add->Encrypt.dll
I have a project that was created as a class library application. It does not have any start up forms. How do I add and show a start up form to this project? Where does this application start since there is no Main Sub that I can find. I am using Visual Studio 2008 express.
i'm worried about doing this since my changes will be overwritten when the dbml file is auto generated again (as they often are).i'm thinking of doing a partial class and writing out the same properties to annotate them, but worried that it will complain about duplicates, and the reason i can't even experiment brings me to the second part of my questions...
that, the expandable arrow on my dbml file listing is missing, right clicking and selecting "View Code" just displays an empty partial class as below.
Is there any way to add new properties to a control? For example, I'm using an "OvalShape" from Microsoft's Powerpacks, these are designated as "Cells". I would like to add properties to the class itself (if I had a physical class to edit) for different processes such as "energy level", "family number", "mutation", etc. General variables that are either Boolean, Integers, or etc. If there isn't a way to edit the powerpack class itself, is there a way I can use the ovalshape power pack in my own class and add extra properties to it myself?
I have a datagridview which is bound to a local databse table through a Linq to SQL class.
Everything works as I would expect, when the application runs, up to a point.
If, in the datagridview tasks pane I enable Adding, Editing and Deleting all work as expected.
If I disable Adding & Deleting, leaving Editing enabled, Editing works as expected.
If I disable Deleting & Editing, but leave Adding enabled, Adding does not work, despite the row for new records being displayed. I can move around the row but not enter data.
I suspect somehow its the datasource as opposed to the datagridview that is the cause of my problem but as I say, I can add rows if the Enable Editing option is selected.
Changing the relevant properties programatically makes no difference.
I've been searching for the reason for a couple of days without success.
I have a workaround, by leaving Enable Editing set and programatically setting each row during the RowPostPaint event to be readonly except the row for new records. I would just like to understand what is going on.
Imports System.Data.SqlClient Public Class ListViewData Public Sub FillListView(ByRef MyListView As ListView, _
[code]....
I want all the listview columns to be in auto width. I tried adding the next line of code but then only my first column fills my entering listview width. All other columns are not affected!
my old vb6 program used to store to ini files now with .net I rekon I need to do something new.. was thinking XML but then in searching around I stumbled apon this my.settings stuff.. so I followed the instructions but something strange is going one..
1. whats the difference between the standard my.settings and adding a new class that is of settings ? anything ?
2. I made 10 new settings in the setting manager but when I try to change then it gives me the old squiggle line saying no go.
If Class X is within the scope of Class Y, is X a subclass of Y?If Class A is a sub Class of B, then is Class B considered a super class of A?if Class C inherits Class D is Class D a superclass or parent of Class C?if Class E extends Class F then we can consider Class E a child of F?if Class G inherits Class H and is within the scope of Class I then who is the parent of Class G? Classes that inherits Class J and classes that are within Class J are all sub classes of Class J?
I have put this code in the global form Inherits System.Windows.Forms.Form. And then in the form that will inherit this from the global Inherits MenuStrip. "MenuStrip" is what the global form is called. But keep getting this error: Error1Base class 'MenuStrip' specified for class 'Lesson2' cannot be different from the base class 'System.Windows.Forms.Form' of one of its other partial types.
It is in the file ClientProfile I have placed in both App_Code and also App_Code/Models
In my code behind I have the following
[CODE]...
The last word, "ClientProfile" has the scary squiggly red line below it. It is not recognizing my class.Even the Intellisense is not picking up te class. Do I have to register the class file in any way?
I am trying to create a simple Word doc that when the user presses the button it takes the information in the boxes and tosses it into a template style paragraph. But my issue is that I have two combo list boxes as seen in the picture. I want to have two values in the drop down list as seen in the labels next to them but for the life of me I can't figure out how to do this in Word 2007. In Visual Studio this is much easier but I am work and need to snap this out for the folks at work. Is there an option that I can choose in the properties where I type in the values for each drop down or do I have to add them in at run time?
Dim a as Type=GetType(className) would gimme the type. But I have only the name of the class as string. I want something like GetType("class1") which would return the type.
I'm adding labels at runtime to my form with a tag. Let's say I have 3 labels with the tags, "1", "2" and "3". I'm adding the tags by counting the labels + 1. When I remove a label with tag "2" from the form there are only 2 left. When I add a new label it will add a new tag "3", but that one already exist. So my "solution" isn't a very good one Although tag "2" is free, I want to give it "4". Any thoughts on how to code this properly?
so I used to mess around with C#, just a little. And someone had helped me make a class for Visual C# that was supposed to do the math parts for "internal structure" - which the program used for a part of its calculations and screen... Basically there were 2 options. Endo-Steel and Standard. The user would use a updownbox to determine weight of the machine and then internal structure was a % of that total. If it was standard then it was 10% of the overall weight, if it was Endo-Steel then it was 50% of standard (so 5% of total weight) rounded to next 0.5 (so .25 was .5, 1.25 was 1.5, 1.75 was 2.0, etc). I have the code for the C# class file for it, but want to make it in VB.
I need to create unit testing project for my current website. The currentw ebsite si written in VB. All unit testing examples are using interface to create mock object. My current VB class does not implment any interface. Can I add interface and implement it to my current class and functions without affecting or changing codes to any pages in my website that call the functions? For examples my current class is like:
I've been creating short test apps repeatedly to try to understand some of the concepts in VB.NET.For the most part it has been illuminating.I read Bucky's .NET knowlegebase tutorial on passing objects as parameters to newly created forms. He shows how to create a new class that inherits from the base form class and define a New() method with parameters Extending the concept I thought about doing the same thing with a form that was created at design-time (In this case Form2).
Imports System.Threading Public Class TestClass Private myClassThread As New Thread(AddressOf StartMyClassThread)
[code]....
The result:Application runs, no errors or exceptions.Displayed is the listbox and the Start button.I press the start button and a msgbox says "Not Invoked" as expected and upon clicking OK to that msgbox "Start Button Pressed" is added to the Output listbox control.Immediately following that the msgbox pops up again and says "Not Invoked". I was expecting "Invoked" as a separate thread is trying to use the Output listbox control.Of course this results in the Output.Items.Add being attempted which results in no visible result as the thread is not allowed to directly update the UI control.
