is it possible to build webpages / applications with VB?
and wich one do i need in order to do that
I have a solution that currently has about 20 class libraries, and a dozen different web apps. Each web app shares a site-wide master page, as well as share js and css files.
I need to be able to build & deploy one app at a time, or occasionally update the entire suite. How is this possible with TFS and MSDeploy?
I would like to convert a VB.NET 64-bit desktop application to a desktop WPF application and also to web-based Silverlight application. Can you write 64-bit applications using WPF or Silverlight using
VS 2010?
If not, can you write 32-bit WPF and Silverlight programs that act as the presentation managers that interface with the user and have them use 64-bit class libraries? Or do all modules have to be either 32-bit or 64-bit?
Say I have a Framework 4.0 project that is referencing a class library targeting 3.5. The project will simply not build. It won't give me any valid error message it will just act as though the reference does not exist.
Projects that were working like this in Visual Studio 2008 are no longer working in 2010. Took me forever to figure out what there error is. If I remove the project reference and add it back the intellisense lights up and you can tell a variable referenced in the class library is found. But as soon as you build the project everything is lost. My using statements get underlined, references to the variable all turn grey and project fails to build saying the class cannot be found. Once I make the class library 4.0 as well everything builds. I get the same issue between 4.0 client profile and 4.0 as well.
How can I Access the Enty point method of Form Based Applications? How can I set their attributes?

View 1 RepliesIn my program I have a combo box that the user selects a date from and a list view that the user selects an employee ID from. How do I properly design my database query string to use both the date selected and the employee ID selected? The date is stored in a variable called YearMonth and the employee ID is stored in a variable called EmpID.
Here is what I am trying to do with my query:

A particular VB.NET project is actually throwing 'Build Failed' But when I try rebuilding again it says 'Rebuild Succeeded'. It keeps alternating this behavior. Kind of random. Any vbc.exe issue of long locking the PDB or xml files?
View 9 RepliesI have a vb.net 2008 windows form application that I was just assigned to work on. how to maintain and test changes to both the pre build and the post build events? Can you tell me how to test these events? My postbuild event, I believe calls a project file in the solution file that wraps files together in a bundle in debug mode. Can you tell me how the posbuild event works and when it is called?
View 2 RepliesI am using 2008 Express Edition. I am trying to make a Release build instead of a Debug build.Under Tools->Options, Projects and Solutions->General - I checked Show advanced build configurations. The option to switch configurations does not show up in the IDE.
After this, I went to the Project Properties->Compile and switched the Configuration from Active(Debug) to Release. After building, I looked in my project directory, however only in the Debug sub-directory was the .exe and nothing in the Release sub-directory.I have used Visual C++ Express Edition, where I noticed that if you do not change to Release in the IDE than after changing to Release in properties, resets the project to the last configuration setting which is usually Debug.how to make the Debug/Release box available in the IDE, since Tools/Options does not make it show up?
I just created a simple application. I Builded that using build->build myapp. I got .exe of that application. i runned. all went fine. but when i closed that app, even after closing it is in memory. it is still running. how to deploy it properly?
View 12 RepliesI have some very simple questions about making a release build exe in vb.net using MS VB 2010 Express.
I realize that my project's executable is built in the bin/debug folder. However, when I copy this to any other location on my computer or someone else's, this executable does not function. I have read that I need to create a release build but in MS VB 2010 Express, when I use the Project-Properties menu and change the Compile tab configuration to Release and the path to binRelease, I still get the exe in the binDebug folder and not the binRelease folder.
1) Is it normal that exe's from the debug folder do not function outside of the debug folder?
2) Most importantly, if the release build produces a faster exe, could someone please explain step by step how to do this with MS VB 2010 Express ? I do not see any button on the compile tab in the project properties that actually builds the release.

I am creating a project in VB.NET in which one of the reports require that the name of employees should be displayed as column names and whatever work they have done for a stated period should appear in rows below that particular column. Now as it is clear, the columns will have to be added at runtime. Am using an ODBC Data source to populate the grid. Also since a loop will have to be done to find out the work done by employees individually, so the number of rows under one column might be less or more than the rows in the next column. Is there a way to create an empty data table and then update its contents based on columns and not add data based on addition of new rows.
