Access Controls In A User Control

Feb 7, 2011

I have a couple user controls that are loaded by a Select Case statement. However, in the behind code file for the main page that loads these controls, none of the asp controls show up in intellisense. I had a feeling it's because the controls are loaded conditionally. My question is what is the best way to solve this?

1) Load the controls and do a Select Case in the behind code to make them hidden or not.

2) Is there a way to say (psuedocode): LoadUserControl("UserControl1").Controls("tbTest").Text = ""

3) How can I pass a dataset to the User Control file?

4) Any other ideas?[code]

Add Records From An Access DB To A ListView Control In .Net?

Nov 18, 2009

I am developing a Windows application that reads from a database and creates a total and subtotals for the records in the database. I am supposed to include a Try...Catch statement that reads the records in an Access db table and adds an item to the ListView control for each record. Each field in the record should be added as a column in the ListView control.

I have already gone through and created my Form_Load event that creates the columns needed in the ListView. I have created the beginning of the Try...Catch statement that opens the database connection. I do not know the syntax I should be using to add the record to a ListView control.Normally I would use something along the lines of to read the data:

Linking Combo Box Control To Access?

Mar 19, 2010

I am teaching myself VB, and when I first managed to do what the post title says, I ended up with a combo box filled with values from the column of a table in a linked db. But later when I updated the VB Form and tried linking the database on this revision of the project, and then added the details to the combo box where to read the values and run the form, nothing displays in combo box. Here is what I did:In the IDE of VB, I went to "Add New Data Sources" -> Database -> New Connection -> Browse -> (selected filename of db) -> Next -> Select "yes" (put in current project) -> Next (save connection name) -> tick boxes for tables in database to connectThen in combo box control properties i set the Data Source (Other Data Sources -> Project Data Sources -> (dataset name) -> Table Name

Use The WebBrowser Control To Access A Website?

Jun 14, 2011

I have been trying to use the WebBrowser control to access a website, nothing fancy involved, just a Security Certificate error message I can't get around:

The site that I've been trying to access is [URL].. By clicking on the "Login" hyperlink you are taken to a https connection.Internet Explorer simply allows you to click on the "Continue to this website (not recommended)" link which displays the Logon screen.Clicking on the same link in a WebBrowser control simply reloads the page as (I assume) WebBrowser has not been told that the page is ok.

I've tried looking around for the solution with no luck, it seems like such a simple problem..

VS 2010 Access A Control From The Value Of A String?

May 13, 2012

Lets say I have a combo box that contains the values "alpha", "bravo", "charlie", etc.

When the user selects a value from the combo box, then that value will be written to a string variable, like...

Dim ComboSelection As String = combobox1.SelectedValue

Now, lets say I have a bunch of panels on my form, which have names corresponding to each combo box value. For example...

pnl_alpha
pnl_bravo
pnl_charlie
etc etc.

So what I would like to do is use the value of ComboSelection to access the appropriate panel (instead of using conditional statements or select case statements).

For example, whichever value the user selects from the combo box, I want to change the corresponding panel's background color to blue. So in the combo box's click event, I want to do something like this...

Dim ComboSelection As String = combobox1.SelectedValue
Dim PanelName As String = "pnl_" & ComboSelection
PanelName.BackColor = Color.Blue

Is it possible to do something like this? Again, I realize that I could easily use conditional statements to accomplish this task, but I am curious if it is possible to do it this way instead, as I would have many uses for this functionality.

Access User Control Attributes From A User Control?

Mar 27, 2009

I am trying to build a tournament bracket application. In order to build the application efficiently I would like to make a user control "GameControl" that represents a game and give it attributes that represent the names of the competitors "TeamNameA" and "TeamNameB" ,an attribute "Winner" to represent which team should move on, and an attribute "NextRoundGame" that assigns another instance of the user control so that it can assign the "winner" to one of the "TeamName" attributes of the next round in the competition. If the controls were native to VB I feel like I could do it easily (I have only spent about 30 hours self teaching/tutorial following) but I can't seem to find out how to pass values to custom attributes of custom user controls through code.

Access A CheckBoxList Control In A DotNetNuke Module?

Mar 17, 2010

I have a dynamically created CheckBoxList in a DotNetNuke module I'm building. When DNN creates the page, it prepends the control name with the moduleID and moduleName.

So, when I have "AddLicenseCheckBoxList" on the page, it becomes:

"dnn_ctr949_addRateGroup_AddLicenseCheckBoxList" depending on what the ModuleID and page name is (in this instance it's 949 and addRateGroup respectively). Now, I don't know what the name of the page or moduleID will be when this module is finished, so I need to make sure I am accessing the control my whateer name DNN gives it, and getElementById or getElementByName do not work even when using '<%= %>'.

So what I need to do is use Javascript or some VB to retrieve the checked values of the dynamically created CheckBoxList so that I can run an update on the database with those selected values. [code]...

Using A .Net Class DLL To Control Webapge And Access Dayabase?

Sep 9, 2010

I am currently doing functions like this

[Code]...

Now Init() is called as the very first code in my webpage and DeInit() is at the very end.I am confused, because I have been told that ADODB objects should be created and destroyed as soon as you no longer need them. Would Method 2 be better, since Method 1 would be creating and destroying ADODB objects several times per page view?
