View 3 Repliesi'm working with crystal report and i use (if not ispostback) to set X and in else to retrieve X . the problem is its working properly in some pages and not working in others.this code sample.
If Not Page.IsPostBack Then
Session("VehicleStatusSelectionFormula") = SelectionFormula
Else[code]....
the problem like i said in last note with ("EnableViewStateMac="false") it make ispostback true all the time.
I know that the web's full of Q's and A's about how to use IsPostBack when selecting the value of a listbox.I have a stored procedure that returns a few values, and I want in runtime to have all the values be selected in the listbox.But when I loop through the SqlDataReader and do: listbox. Selected Value = reader(0), the final result on the browser is that only the last value gets selected.The listbox's SelectionMode is "Multiple".
View 3 RepliesI need to be able to tell from within a VB.NET class (not a user control) whether or not the current request is a PostBack and/or CallBack (AJAX). In the past I've been able to get information about the request, response, session, etc through HttpContext.Current but I haven't been able to find the Page object in HttpContext.Current.
View 2 RepliesAm using asp.net for above 5 years. But now am facing a weird problem. When i try to send emails from form created by me which contains asp:button, asp:textbox, etc., in code page it always telling IsPostBack false. Even when i click the Send mail button(asp.net button). I cant understand what is problem.
Is it anything needed in web.config file for postback??[URL]... Am sure its not problem in Test page.Because it is very normal page which have only one button & code in vb. Problem somewhere in cache, urlrewrite or web.config. But i cant understand where?
[Code]...
When i exclude that dlls and remove the httpmodule line from web.config file postback working fine. So this is error. They done something wrong in their Dll files or httpmodule.
But still can't understand what is error. Is it have chance to control postback action from dll files?
I'm having trouble porting some .NET2-era C# to .NET2-era VB.NET. Specifically, I am trying to define an interface that an ASP.NET user control will implement.(For background, I am trying to re-implement Phil Haack's Model-View-Presenter example from several years ago: http://haacked.com/archive/2006/08/09/ASP.NETSupervisingControllerModelViewPresenterFromSchematicToUnitTestsToCode.aspx)
The C# interface I'm working from defines properties and events (IsPostBack, Load) that are already implemented by the base control.However, VB.NET is forcing me to explicitly implement these properties/events in the user control (Public Property IsPostBack() As Boolean Implements IView.IsPostBack...). I'd like to just define these in the interface and not have to do anything special in the code-behind of the implementing user control.I'm assuming that I can do this in VB.NET, I just don't know how. I've spent all sorts of time googling/bing-ing, and haven't come up with the answer.
I have 2 dropdownlists "countries" and "cities", with 2 datasources: If a user chooses the first index in the ddl countries, he can see all the cities in the world in the ddl cities (uses datasource1).If a user chooses a country, he can see the cities correspond to this country chosen (uses datasource2).I put the code for changing datasource in the code behind using vb.net, in Page_Load, but after the user chose a city, and click the submit button, the dropdownlist cities can't keep the status, it goes to the first index of this ddl.
I tried to put this code in the If Not IdPostBack, but like this, it doesn't change datasource while it can keep status of the dropdownlist.I put the code here as reference:
Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load
Dim ddlCities As DropDownList
Dim ddlCountries As DropDownList
[code]....
I have a text input in textbox1 in tab page 1 and i want that text from textbox1 will be displayed in textbox2 in tab page 2.
View 3 RepliesI wrote a page Page method in my aspx page. in web service method I need to call FindControl method return textbox and get text box value. But my findControl will take MasterPage object to iterate.
see my code
<script type = "text/javascript">

How to pass Master Page object or Page to Page method?. So I can use in Sared method.
Is there any way I can access Textbox value directly in Page method? I need access couple of controls in Page Method.
HOW TO RUN THE JAVASCRIPT FUNCTION ON PAGE ONLOAD EVENT IN CONTENT PAGE OF MASTER PAGE.? means i have masterpage and the content page of master page namely default.aspx in vb.net.i wanna run javascript function in Default.aspx and i have called the function body onload in master page.when i run my website it shows the error "" Microsoft JScript Runtime Error : Object Expected ""

View 3 RepliesI have a master page which contains everything that inherits it within a form. A page inheriting from it needs to run some javascript to act on a text field on a page. However, I can't seem to reference that text field through the javascript, since the form begins on the master page. The following line will come up bogus: document.form1.txtFindUser.value = blah.responseText; This is because form1 is defined on the master page, while txtFindUser is on the current page.
View 3 Repliesi am new to this. i have 4 pages. login.aspx, account.aspx, settings.aspx and fliers.aspx.
its all programmed in vb.net with sql server backend.on my firstr page, login.aspx i have this code in the .vb page -

Does anyone know why a Page_Load would be called twice on a page when requesting an aspx page?I am using .Net 2.0 with the new .net 1.1 compilation model installed. Whenever I request a page, the Page_Load on the aspx page appears to be called twice, so does the Page_Load on and user controls added to that page.
View 16 RepliesThe thing is i have a Master page and a Content Page. I have a LoadComplete in Content Page and a PreRender in Master Page. The problem is one of my htmlcontrols on content page i change on the LoadComplete event server side of the content page. I also have some code for disabling controls on the Master Page PreRender event. For some reason all controls on the aspx side go through the Master Page prerender except the ones that i change on the LoadComplete side. How can i make sure the entire content page loads and then the Master Page PreRender event is called, making all the controls go through that event.
View 1 RepliesProtected Sub Menu1_MenuItemClick(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.MenuEventArgs) Handles Menu1.MenuItemClick
End Sub
In VB.net, we have the Handles keyword, I'm wondering if C# has anything comparable. Or do you have to manually wire all the methods to each control's event (in ASP.NET especially)?

View 2 RepliesIn my current project everyone names variables and methods after what they are and what they do. This is good for quickly understanding the code, but with a lot of long varible names comes some headaches, such as when copying a dataset to an entity/object. So, while you understand the code, the readability still takes a blow.
veryLongVariableName.Id = datasetVeryLongVariableName.Id
veryLongVariablename.Something = datasetVeryLongVariableName.Something
etc.
Using VB.NET's With keyword can help.
With veryLongVariableName
.Id = datasetVeryLongVariableName.Id
.Something = datasetVeryLongVariableName.Something
End With
Now, my question, is there any way of using With, or something similar, but for several variables at the same time? Something like:
With veryLongVariableName As a, datasetVeryLongVariableName as b
a.Id = b.Id
a.Something = b.Something
End With
I'm all for descriptive naming conventions, but they do tend to clutter things. Especially in VB!
I m trying to create a software in vb.net for some genealogists to trace their ancestors History, the users will search for the document in 3 ways
1. reference number from a combo box.
2. By the title of the document.
3. by inserting a keyword from the documents abstract..
i have already loaded the picture. i hav put all in one note pad my reference no., on next line i put my abstract and on the third line i put my path where the document is located.in coding i put all in different array.... making the program read all one by one line wise.i want to make search thru the keyword... means wen user inserts a key word in the textbox the program read all my abstract and then in a drop down it should display the documents that match the keyword.
Its work well in windows 7 but when i run project in windows xp its says i must use New keyword but when i use New its gives error at regkey.GetValueNames and RegistryKey = Registry.LocalMachine and regBaseKey.OpenSubKey("SOFTWAREMyApp", FalseImports Microsoft.Win32[code]...

View 1 RepliesI have to serialize/deserialize a class into a JSON string/and return. The JSON Strinig must contain the "error" string (like: {error:"something strange occoured", id:23, result:"xxxxx"}), which specifies the occoured error.
How can i implement a class like:
[code]...
If i do this, the word 'error' is invalid.
I use the Call keyword when calling subs in VB/VBA. I know it's optional, but is it better to use it or leave it off? I've always thought it was more explicit, but maybe it's just noise. Also, I read this on another forum: Using the Call keyword is faster because it knows that it is not going to return any values, so it doesn't need to set up any stackspace to make room for the return value.
View 4 RepliesFirst off let me say that I am essentially new to VB.NET, i.e; still learning. Also, I hope that this is the right place to post this question. In a Project I have a Class module defined as:

I have to inherit some legacy code in company, which is written in Visual Basic.NET 7.0 (Visual Studio.NET 2002). I don't have much experiences in VB.NET, and this line of code gets me in trouble:
