Automatic Internal Padding Is Pushing My Text 60 Pixels From The Top Of The Control To The Top Of The Text?
May 18, 2012
I am writing a kiosk type application, in winforms (I know WPF would be better, this is just to be a rough and ready solution until I've learnt WPF), using VB.Net (VS2008).I have a label on my form with the font set to Segoe UI, and at 120pt size (yes it's large, it's designed to be read from a distance on a 42" screen). The problem I have is that the automatic internal padding is pushing my text 60 pixels from the top of the control to the top of the text and 40 pixels from the left of the control to the left of the text - the label1.padding property is all at 0, so this is the default spacing of the control - it seems to be particularly bad with this font (but it's the font I want to use) and if I increase the font size, this issue gets even worse.
I want my text to fit tightly into the boundaries of my control top, bottom and left (I want the right to expand depending on the length of the string in it, though). How can I achieve this (so that I can control all of the paddding myself using the label.padding property) and get rid of this automatic padding?
By default, the DataGridView padding (.ColumnHeadersDefaultCellStyle.Padding and .DefaultCellStyle.Padding) is set to 0 (zero). However, when you run the application and look at what's in the DataGridView control, there is default padding of 3 pixels (Left) in the data cells and a default padding of 7 pixels (also Left) in the header cells. I don't seem to have any control over these 3 and 7 pixel offsets. For Top, Bottom, and Right, there are similar or greater pixel offsets that I also don't seem to have access to. I want to be able to specify exactly the pixel offset I want, assuming a default pixel offset of 0 (not 3 and 7).
I'm writing a VB.NET app where I want to load an internal text file from Resource. But the code shows Invalid URI: The Uri string is too long. The code is 'document.Load("C:UsersSouDocumentsVisual Studio 2010Projectsinfo.xml") document.Load(My.Resources.info) 'some processing job with XML node ... So, how to load the resource file ?
I have the following situation: An interface (Windows forms) to a dataset. It has binding navigator, binding source, table adater etc operating with a dataset. How can I make a textbox for an ID field automatically generate an appropriate number for the ID? Just like the sql server direct database editor generates an id for fields with the "is identity" and "auto increment" properties on.
First i need to copy a line of text which i can already get selected this ain't in the windows.form but it's in another program (in my situation it is Inernet Explorer, but also going to need it with others.) so i guess i'll have to make my program press Cntrl+C at the same moment? then it's going to be copyed right? so it'll be on it's "clipboard" then after that i need to get Label3.text = the clipboards text.
i don't have any codes yet, ain't asking you to do my homework but if anyone knows an solution, or can get me some hint. i tried searching all over the web but can't manage to get the buttons pressed at the same moment.
I'm attempting to populate fields in a processing webpage [URL] and having a small problem.
I can add the email and antenna heights easily but how do I manipulate a file browser (file upload) and option input boxes (Antenna Type) from within my vb app?
It might be the long way around but i'm doing it via searching each of the html elements to find the named fields I'm looking for:
Dim intWork As Integer For intWork = 0 To WebBrowser1.Document.All.Count - 1 strWork = WebBrowser1.Document.All.Item(intWork).Name
I have an annoying problem with tree-view control in asp.net VB, it pushes the content page area down when branching out the menu.I have created the proper divs to separate the various sectionsMaster page is very basic:-
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
A piece of code that will allow the user of my application, to enter the text "unemployed" into a text box and also allow them to enter numbers for how many years the person had been employed for.
I'm trying to make a -what i thought would be simple app.My intention was to build program that:1) i'd provide a grayscale image2) the program would count the black pixels the grey pixels the more grey pixels etc. (the hue) and the white3) would make the percentage sum of all pixels, that is: 300.000 black pixels (rgb 0 0 0) etc. given that 0 is the black, 100 the white. e.g a simple grayscale image is 55.2 white
This was my way and i don't think that is useful:
First of a button to convert the image to greyscale:
Dim bm as new Bitmap(source.Width,source.Height)
Dim x
Dim y
[CODE]...
Secondly, -and that's the stupid way- i did -or better i wanted to do- this: i put the code to dynamically create labels, each label having the colour of a pixel as background colour and as text the colour converted to rgb
The third step which i intended to do (i couldn't get pas two) was to sum up the labels etc.
If you have a Control contained within another Control and the Child Control has the default Anchoring (Top + Left) AND AutoSize=False (Assuming the control has that Property) changing the Parent Control's Top or Left Padding will not offset the Child Control. If you change the Anchoring of the Child Control to anything other than the default values OR set AutoSize=True, the Control is correctly offset when the Parent Control's Padding values are changed.
My application appends incoming report data onto a RichTextbox control. As more text arrives from an external device, the thumb initially fills the trough and as times goes on, the thumb diminishes in size. This is expected behavior.A modal dialog box allows the user to cancel the file download but since it's modal, the user can't scroll down to see what the last text that was appended. Is there a property/event/method that will show the most recent/last text in the RichTextBox control, rather than the initial text as I have it displayed now? The user would be able to see the text drawn real time without having to use the thumb to accomplish
I'm using VB2008 Express. And I've been working on a "popup" to select a date range. The DateTimePicker isn't ideal because the purpose is to pick a date range, which will always be one full week, from Sunday through Saturday. The control works just fine and I'm pretty proud of it. My problem has to do with the border added when using ToolstripControlHost for this. I've included a screenshot and my code.
In the code below, assume there exists a button named "btnTimePeriod", below which I desire to show a panel, which contains a few custom items, and the panel's name is "pnlDateRangePicker".IT WORKS... but it doesn't look right. The panel itself is 147 x 326 pixels, but notice in the attached graphic that it's adding a border around the panel which I don't want. There's a border on the top, bottom, and left... but for some reason the border on the right one is especially large. Although my code doesn't expressly set it, AutoSize = true so I would have expected it to shrink around the panel.
As required, my code already does set ShowCheckMargin and ShowImageMargin false. I haven't included the code for the DrawDateCalander Sub because it's not relevant. I believe even a blank panel would yield the same result. I have no idea where this margin is coming from.
Private Sub btnTimePeriod_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnTimePeriod.Click Call DrawDateCalendar(DatePart(DateInterval.Month, FirstDisplayedSunday), DatePart(DateInterval.Year, FirstDisplayedSunday)) Call ShowControlBelow(btnTimePeriod, pnlDateRangePicker) End Sub
Okay, so what I want to do is directly output formatted RTF text to a Rich Text Box control in VB.NET. I don't want to find the text, select it and color it as it is not practical for what I'm doing. I've tried outputting RTF code but that isn't working either. Can I actually do this or will I have to write a dll?
I am using telerik Rad Grid in my applilcation.I have placed a text box in the header of one column of this rad grid.I am able to find the control of header and text box but my problem is that I am not able to get the text typed in that text box. Here I am typing the code how I am finding the control of header and text box.
I have a User Control that is a ProgressBar with Dock set to Fill. The code is as below. Unfortunately it simply doesn't show the text in the progress bar and why is beyond me skill.
[Code]....
The If Not... conditional code in the set method is there to prevent the SetProgressText procedure running every time the property is set. The Value property of a ProgresBar is an Integer and if the code that is setting it runs through thousands of loops (>600,000 in my case) then there's no point updating the text every time since it can only actually change 100 times for a 0-100 ProgressBar. The 600k looping takes about 2 seconds usually, without that conditional code it takes at least 2 minutes!
I just want to know that how can i highlight text on a richtextbox control while reading the text using speech sdk control. I mean the word currently speak automatically selected in the RichTextBox.
I'm trying to retrieve the text from an external text control. I'm able to do this successfully in vb6, but now that I'm trying to make a go of .net I'm having trouble writing this particular piece of code in .net without errors.
My code is thus:
Dim TheText As String, TxtLen As Long TxtLen = SendMessageLong(txtcontrolclass, WM_GETTEXTLENGTH, 0&, 0&) TheText = String(TxtLen + 1, " ")
[Code]....
I also noticed that my use of String( and Left( in the above code are also underlined and telling me that they cant be used as written.
I am using custom textboxes and I need to be able to set the Text on txb1 based on the Text of txb2. I have simplied my code to the following:
Public Class customtextbox Inherits TextBox Public Event ControlReset()
[Code]....
So, when txb1 looses focus, if its Text is "fried", then it sets off txb2's ProcessAlert function. I had tried to change the value of txb2 Text in ProcessAlert function, but didnt work, so I tried to get it to raise an event instead, which then tries to set the Text property. However I still cant set txb2's Text property. The Text property seems to be set for the duration of the "life" of the Event handler. When I step through the forms controls within the Event handler, the changed Text value is there, but not outside of the Event handler.
Is it possible to have an internal XML dataset within a VB 08 program I ask because we at present have the program load an external XML on startup, but i would prefer this to be internal withing the program to stop other editing the XML file.
I would like the size of a label to be identical to the space used by the text inside. The height and width of a label does indeed change depending on its content (text property and its font), but there is a wide margin that I would like to remove.
I've made a user control and have added some internal labels inside it. In the User control class I'm trying to handle the mouse events so that: When the mouse enters the User-Control the background of the User-Control turns white - using MouseEnter event. When the mouse leaves the User-Control the background of the User-Control turns grey - using MouseLeave event. However as soon as I move the mouse over the internal labels it triggers the MouseLeave event. I don't want it to do that, because the mouse hasn't left the bounds of the User-Control! So, how do I get it to not trigger the MouseLeave event when the mouse is still internal to the User-Control?
"Automatic Image-scroller". The scenario is quite simple. I've got one single picture, and it should move up and when it moves out of frame, the same picture would appear beneath itself and continue to move up. Kind of a loop. The problem is that i haven't got a single clue how to make it in code-behind nor XAML, but it has to written in "code-behind" cause of the things i'm hooking it up with.
I have an SQL database, and 50 text files, and Visual Basic 2010 Premimum,I need to find a specific line of text in the text files and then take the next 37 lines of text and save them in my database. I need advice as to point me in the right direction
The code above is what I am using to add the Value of Label 1 (Pizza Total) and Label 2 (Drinks Total), however it seems that in the final total it doesn't appear to add the value of Label 2.
I am using SourceSafe 2005, and I have a project in VB.NET Framework 4.What I want is a way to automate the build process and hopefully integrate easy deployment. I'd like to be able to send an automated notification when a build is made that lists the comments of the SourceSafe check-in's in the body of the message.I've looked at a few options and some of them are confusing. I've seen it implemented with SVN, nAnt and CruiseControl, but it looks like it might take ages to set up being a novice of the aforementioned technologies. What would be the easiest way to set something like this up in your opinion? If I have to start using SVN for this, then that would also be a possibility.
On the main form of my application, I have a Rich Text Box which is where the user will be entering information. The text is black. then, i have a button which calls the dialogue "Notes" A dialogue appears, with a rich text box. the user should then be able to enter text into the box, click "OK", and the text entered into the Notes dialogue be inserted to the rich text box on the main form -- with the font colour "Red". The rest of the text in the main rich text box on the main form should remain black.
I am still messing around with Cntrl/Copy and Paste from a menustrip. Paste is working fine. The copy is working to a certain extent. It will copy the complete text field from one control to another. how do I determine what is the selected text only. My code below:
Private Sub CopyToolStripMenuItem_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs) Handles CopyToolStripMenuItem.Click Dim activeChild As Form = Me.ActiveMdiChild ' Determine the active child form. Dim activeControl As Control = activeChild.ActiveControl
Is there a way to bind the text property of a control to an expression? I have a user control that I add to a FlowLayoutPanel. You can see I have 4 controls in the FlowLayoutPanel below. The first control is a LinkLabel and the other three are my user controls which are numbered 1, 2, & 3. I'd like to bind the label that shows the 1, 2, or 3 to the user controls index within the FlowLayoutPanel.
If I happen to remove the 2nd user control I want the 3rd user control to now display 2. I could use the FlowLayoutPanel ControlAdded or ControlRemoved events, but wanted to see if I could do some binding first.
1) How can I make the text in RTB control to change without clicking on it (RTB control) again? I notice that the event handler is mousedown so its only occurs whenever the users clicks on the controls. But I really have no idea how to do that. Anyone can guide me how to do that???
2) How to make the RTB's Back Color to transparent??? Cause it is not supported. Or is it I use the wrong control???
