Building A Connectship (Shipping Service Provided By UPS) Project In VB 10?
May 25, 2012
Currently I am building a Connectship (Shipping Service Provided by UPS) project in VB 10. This is my first project in 10, in the past I have always used 2003. We decided to upgrade due to the connect ship API(.dll) wasn't compatible with 2003.
My current problem is as follows:I've built a program that uses ADOBD, some XML httprequests and a little bit of integration with there API they have. I also built it to use .net Framework 4.0. I can run the project just fine on the machine I built it on (XP SP3), but when I go to run it on the other machine, it acts like it runs but just doesn't do nothing. Basically just starts and stops.. The machine is not the same model as mine, but has all the updates (SP3) & the .net 4.0 framework on it. I've also tried installing the software package that comes with Connectship on the machine, this is how the .dll work but it still doesn't bring anything up so I don't think it's that messing it up.I was also wondering, to run VS 10 projects you should at least have SP3 correct or could you use SP1 also in XP?
I have a problem with building a project. When I build a project and when I create .exe file, I cannot run it on other computers. There is an error: "The application failed to initialize properly (0x0000135). Click OK to terminate the application.".ca i have any chance to solve this error without installing framework 3.5
I have a problem with building a project. When I build a project and when I create .exe file, I cannot run it on other computers. There is an error: "The application failed to initialize properly (0x0000135). Click OK to terminate the application.". When I install .NET framework on the computer, than there is no this error. Is there any chance to create a file that will run on the other computers without installing the .NET framework?
I'm basically trying to programmatically build each project in a list but only if they have changed. So does anyone know of a way (using EnvDTE maybe) to check if a project changed and therefore needs to compile?
I have written a program in VB.NET 2008 Express that references a .NET managed dll. I simply added a reference to the dll to the project. I then 'Imports' the dll at the beginning of the program and then can use it. Everything works fine when I am running the program in debug mode (and it uses the dll as intended), but as soon as I go to build the project I get an errors that it "Could not reslove this reference" and "Namespace of type specifier in the Imports 'ModbusTCP' doesn't contain any public member or cannot be found." The dll is located in a different location on my hard drive to the project location, but this was referenced when I 'added reference'.
I'm building a database control layer DLL for my project.HelpDB is the project.HDB is the class name.I've written a few methods for connecting to the db, querying, and the usual.I've recently included a public class HDB_ParamValue in HDB to handle query parameters.

Note 1: I'm moving from VB6, so you'll appreciate that I have little experience with this real OOP. If there is a link or article you can recommend that might answer this, recommend away!Note 2: I'm not concerned about databases and parameters per se, but more the _concept_ of class in a class (or class of a class).
When i am creating a setup project and building it then i am getting a setup file using which if i install then it is getting installed to single user only i want the setup to build run for every user in that system and the users can access it.
Both projects are set to build in release modeBoth projects are in the same solutionThe solution is set to build in releaseBoth projects output to a Release folder in bin / objEverything seems to be okay except for one thing. When inspecting the files with a tool such asI tracked this down to a setting in the Advnced Compiler Options for the pdb files. If the debug info output for VB is set to anything other than none - then the project builds in debug mode (keep in mind it still outputs to the release folder).
When ever i publish the project, i get a bunch of deployment files and a setup file. Even after running the set up there is no .exe file.Is this just VB .Net way of opening the file now? Do i even need to use the installer? My program uses very basic math with list's and datagrid views.
Well i finally finished my Maths Quiz project made using VB. Now, all i have to do is create a wizard that installs the program on the users pc.What i did was clicked bulild--->publish build then follow the simple instructions:location--->loadfromacd/dvd--->finish although when i went to install it, it didnt create a desktop icon although it creates it in the start menu as well as so thats good but it doesnt create a shortcut to the desktop is there anyway i can make it install a desktop icon when installing?
What actually is required to consider something installed on a machine. What happens in the background? I know VB offers an installer but Im trying to build my own from scratch. What do I need to do to accomplish this?
I've created a windows service and started a deployment project for it. I have the project installer class in the service project and I've added the "Standard output etc.." from the service project as custom actions for the Deployment Project. When I attempt to install it, I get the error "Specified service already exists", which shouldn't happen (even though the service does exist) because the installer should be removing the old service and installing the new one.
I've checked that the versions are different, and that the Product Code is also different, also RemovePreviousVersions is set to true. Can anyone tell me why it isn't uninstalling my old service when I update then install again? .S: MODS: DO NOT MARK MY POST AS ANSWERED, IT IS RUDE, YOU HAVE NO IDEA IF YOU'VE ANSWERED MY QUESTION!Sorry, it gets ignored in my signature.Mods
I began setting up a TeamCity server a couple days ago for use in automated testing and CI. We mainly do VB.net web apps and up until now, it had been checking out things and building just fine.
A problem came up when I tried to add actual deployment into the mix. I saw this article: [URL]
referenced all over the place as a good guide, so I followed the steps relating to setting up a Web Deployment project and rigging TeamCity to run it. Basically, it recommends setting up a new build configuration in VS2010 called "Deployment" which builds the Web Deployment project, then creating a build configuration in TC that targets it.
The issue is that the web deployment project won't compile when run under TeamCity. The regular build works just fine, but if I set MSBuild to use the build configuration that includes the Web Deployment project, it crashes halfway through and gives an error about attempting to load the System.Data.OracleClient assembly in an incorrect format. I assume this means a 32-bit/64-bit error, especially since my development machine is a 32-bit box, and the build server is 64, but I don't know why this is happening, especially when the regular build works, and nothing in my project involves using an Oracle database.
I saw in the log that there's a warning about missing reference assemblies for the 4.0 framework, so I headed off to the MS website and downloaded the SDK, but that didn't change anything. At this point, I'm stuck, and I didn't see anything already here on Stack Overflow that looked quite like this. I'll attach the log below. Have I missed something simple?
I've just created my first web application project. Now I want to add a RESTFul service. It can be pretty simple, all I need is to pass 1 string (userid) and 1 integer (objecttype) and return a json result.
I want to create a class library .NET web project that encapsulates the functionality of consuming a web service. I can create the .NET class web project and add a web service (Visual Studio 2005) but I cannot seem to figure out how to reference it. It's easy to reference in a web site (simply address it by name), but apparently in the class library project things are different because I cannot figure out the namespace or reference name.
I'm trying to open a project we did in class the other day at home.
When I try to open the project in VB, I get an error that's not terribly helpful. It basically says the project cannot be opened because its project type () is not supported by this application.
I believe that the information I need should be contained within the paren which is blank in my error message. I've looked up the error message and all the examples I've seen contain some information there.
The project was done using VS 2008 in VB in the classroom. That's exactly what I have at home. The only thing that I can think of is that something is missing from my version of VS2008 at home. The reason why I believe this is because when we needed to use SQL, it was already installed at school whereas I needed to go out and download then install it at home. So I assume my install at home is somehow incomplete. I've thought about uninstalling everything at home and re-downloading it and selecting all of the "add-ons" when I do it. This could be a total waste of time though since I don't really know what's going on.
I just thought I'd ask around before going through that.
EDIT: I downloaded VS 2008 Pro from dreamspark. Everything seems to be working.
I have developed an application in VB.Net 2005 Express. This app was then transformed into a windows service using a template I found on this forum. I am able to install the service using InstallUtil.exe and I am very happy, BUT the powers that be me are asking for a more eligant method of installing / upgrading the service. All of my reading suggests I need to upgrade to VS 2008 Enterprise to achieve this goal. Before I lash out and reach for my credit card, can someone confirm the minimum requirement to achieve a pretty service installation.
I am creating a code for a school project that calculates the shipping cost for a package. In this program the user enters the weight of the package ( in pounds ) and selects the destination of the package. The application with determine the cost of the shipping. The destination of the package can be the US continental, Hawaii or Alaska. If the package is going to Hawaii a 20% surcharge is added to the shipping cost. If the package is going to Alaska, a 26% surcharge is added the shipping cost.
This is my code thus far. When applying my weight in pounds and selecting the destination I still keep getting 0.0 for the total. Public Class Form1 Private Sub textboxpounds_TextChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles textboxpounds.TextChanged End Sub Private Sub ListBox1_SelectedIndexChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs)[Code] .....

I'm currently starting work on my first windows service and I've encountered what I find to be a strange error. For some reason the compiler is telling me that a whole bunch of typical classes (such as Image, Bitmap, Graphics, etc) do not exist. For example, these simple lines of code, which work perfectly in a normal project, return a bunch of errors:
Bitmap b = new Bitmap(destWidth, destHeight); //Error 13 The type or namespace name 'Bitmap' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) Graphics g = Graphics.FromImage((Image)b); //Error 17 The type or namespace name 'Image' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)
I created a dll project in visual studio 2008, and i dont see the add web reference option, only the Service Reference option whish looks like it takes a WCF not a regular asmx web service, is that correct?
Now that I've got this service that runs really great on my 32-bit development machine when I use InstallUtil.exe to install it, I'm ready to take it to the next level and generate something that I can use to install it on my 64-bit production server. I've never done this before, so I'm looking for detailed, step-by-step instructions on how to "publish" this Windows Service that I've written, or make it such that I can take some kind of file (or set of files) and install my service on another machine. I'm looking for a way to do this using Visual Studio 2010. I think the processes are different than in previous versions of Visual Studio.
i create a class library or use already created class library in my windows service project. I have 1 dll file then how can i use that file in my project.?Logic is my Greatest Asset !
If I add a service-based database to my VB.NET (2010) Winforms solution, is there a way to connect to this database from SQL Server Express Management Studio on the same computer?
I am trying to work on a service where I need to export a report into a folder under the service project and email it to the user. The delete the report when complete. The issue I am having is I need to know how to access a folder under the project. I know you can use System.AppDomain.CurrentDomain.BaseDirectory to get into the bin where the excuting file is but I want to get to a folder is this possible? If not is there a way of creating the folder under the bin directory and accessing it. I can manually create a folder under the bin but didnt really want to do that.
the description of what the program is supposed to do is this: Create a program that assists in shipping widgets. When a customer orders widgets it determines how many boxes and how many bubble envelopes are required. Four widgets fit in a box. Any left over widgets are shipped in an envelope. Follow all best practices. Submit, Clear and Exit commands must be available. Be sure to have a menu and Access Keys.
So far I have a simple form layout with 3 labels and 3 textboxes. I Know to solve for boxes It has to divide Widgets by 4 But i do not no how to get the remainder into the separate envelope text box.
