Inserting A Wait - So That Animation Has Time To Play And Stop Then Rest Of Code Will Display Other Picture And Numbers

Nov 4, 2011

I have the following

Public Class Form1
Private GIFAnim As Image = Image.FromFile("c:cointosscointoss_ani.gif")
Private frames As Integer
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click

[CODE]...

Now I would like to put a wait in after the line:

frames = GIFAnim.GetFrameCount(Imaging.FrameDimension.Time)
ImageAnimator.Animate(GIFAnim, AddressOf paintFrame)

This is so that the animation has time to play and stop and then the rest of the code will display the other picture and the numbers. Is this possible? I tried timer and sleep but I cant get them to work.

IDE Stop Filling In The Rest Of A Property When Creating A New Property?

Nov 5, 2011

when I'm creating a new property in Visual Basic .NET in Visual Studio 2010, the rest of the Property (template?) doesn't complete the basic framework of the property in the code editor. It is now treating a statement like:

Public Property Length() As Integer

Instead of completing the property as it used to (code follows), it simply goes to the next line:

Public Property Length() As Integer
Get[code].....

What happens now is that, if I type in the 'End Property' code, the name of the property will now be highlighted as an error since it doesn't have a 'Get' or 'Set' portion.However, when I THEN type the 'Get' on the line following the 'Public Property Length() As Integer', then the balance of the property is created in the code automatically.I don't know how this got changed, but would love to change it back.Does anyone know if there's a setting in VS2010 that addresses this, or if it's something with the basic templates that visual studio uses for creating the basic code components?The weird thing is that for everything else, from class declarations, structures, functions and subs, the IDE still creates the balance of the code structure correctly. The only area where it doesn't is for Property declarations.

Creating A Condition - IF Statement Which Is Checking Each Row In The Data Table

May 4, 2011

I have a IF statement which is checking each row in the data table (for a match) and ELSE statement with commands which are executed if the If statement is not satisfied. Now I would like to write like so that it goes to the Else part BUT ONLY for values which are not satisfied in the IF statement. If I am more specific; I would like to calculate values if a match is found and just print them if it is not fond (usually there are both cases). Now the problem is the bold text; if there is a match found I don't want it processed BUT if the match is found I do. How can I write that?

currencyPosition = 0
Dim d As Integer = w + 100
For Each currency In Ary

Stop All Threads Or Just The Thread That The Statement Is Executed In?

Dec 12, 2010

I'm working with vb.net 3.5SP1 /VS2008. I'm familiar with windows threads from C++ but I didn't do it since the 90s.I have 5 threadpool calls (ThreadPool.QueueUserWorkItem) that do some complex work (they read info from different web pages, regular expressions, etc) and each updates different columns in a data-grid view. They pause for 1 second between each web read with thread.sleep (not to overload the server). My issue is that some of the threads do not complete. I get for example 3 results when I should have 8. Sometimes it works fine. This is an older 3.0Ghz HT machine, I want to test it on the lowest common denominator(and that is all I have ). I tried using Monitor.Enter(ListView1)it seems to help but it is hard to tell. I tried using the thread debug window but it is not really helpful, it seems do disappear during execution. If I remove the threads I always get my data. I'm wondering if something is being blocked? Is there a way to debug this?

Also, does thread.sleep(x) stop all threads or just the thread that the statement is executed in?

VB - If Statement - Stop The Last Line, Begvalue = Begvalue - Depreciation, From Showing Up In The Listbox

May 10, 2011

To do is stop the last line, begvalue = begvalue - depreciation, from showing up in the listbox. I tried an if statement but that doesn't work

Depreciation to a Salvage Value of 0. For tax purposes an item may be depreciated over a period of several years, n. With the straight-line method of depreciation, each year the item depreciates by 1/nth of its original value. With the double-declining-balance method of depreciation, each year the item depreciates by 2/nths of its value at the beginning of that year. (In the last year, it is depreciated by its value at the beginning of the year.) Write a program that performs the following tasks:

Requests a description of the item, the year of purchase, the cost of the item, the number of years to be depreciated (estimated life), and the method of depreciation. The method of depreciation should be chosen by clicking one of two buttons. Displays a depreciation schedule for the item similar to the schedule shown in Figure 6.23. Figure 6.23. Depreciation schedule for Programming Project 7. [URL]

This is the code I have so far:

Dim yearpurchased, cost, life, depreciation, begvalue, total As Double

Dim item As String

I need to get the last two numbers on the bottom right of the table.

Attachments Using REST WebService

May 26, 2011

I am currently developing an application using VB.NET in which I am using the REST WebServices. I have been able to do the basics with REST, however, I have not been able to add an attachment (more specifically upload a file, using REST which gets attached). I have done extensive research online, but so far I have not been able to find any working examples in VB.NET. To actually upload the data I use System.Net.WebClient. The following VB.NET code does the important work:[code]As you can see, the postString is converted to bytes and then uploaded to the server. However, I do not know where or how I should be posting the raw attachment itself. The documentation for the service we are specifically using states to use a variable "attachment_ 1," which I added to the postString variable, but I am not sure what the next step should be. Should the file be converted into bytes and appended to the postBytes variable?

Tab Not Anchored With The Rest Of The Form?

Jan 30, 2010

For this program im using http method post to recieve messages from the server, when its waiting for a new message to be sent it locks the program up. No biggie, ill just thread the sub... Bad idea... I also have functions "send", "Connect", "disconnect". All on threads... i looked at task manager it started getting up to 100+ threads. I dont know much about threads but that just seems way to much. they will die off and the count will return to 20 but id like to find a different way of keeping the program from locking up but not having 100+ threads.. Little off topic: i used a user control. The only problem now is on the tab, its not anchored with the rest of the form... how do i accomplish this?

VS 2010 : Use A Stop Button To Stop A Loop?

Dec 7, 2009

I created a form and have the variable inputs for 4 motor run statements. Then with a start button the script starts and it is surrounded by a for next statement to loop 10 times. It works fine but if i need to stop the execution of the script with a stop button. I put the stop in a new section but of course does not work to do a motor stop. It just causes the exe to not respond till the loop is complete. Just need to be able to stop the Run1_Click button section.

Edit:I do not mind if it finishes the 4 motor run commands and then stops execution of the loop. So need to figure out a way to trigger a stop from a button on the form to stop the cycle. For the future the loop will be a variable integer input so 10 will not be the standard.

Edit::Does a ' Do ' statement sound like the thing to use? If so how and where would I place that? Have a Stop button on the form and it would stop after the 4th motor run command.

#End Region
Declare Function InitStp Lib "stp.dll" () As Integer
Declare Function RunMotor1 Lib "stp.dll" (ByVal steps As Integer, ByVal interval As Integer, ByVal direction As Integer, ByVal outputs As Integer) As Boolean

Get Data From A Button Into The Rest Of The Program?

Feb 17, 2011

I'm trying to write a program which allows a user to determine how many 'I's will go into a text box. (i.e if they select 10 then the text box will look like I I I I I I I I I I ). I'm writing a program where if I click on one of three buttons then a number of 'I's will disappear out of the text box. Button one will subtract one 'I', button two will subtract two 'I's, and button three will subract 3 'I's. I don't know how to get the information from the button into the program to subtract the correct number of 'I's. If I press button one, and I have:

Dim OneI as Integer = 1

How do I get the 1 in the OneI variable into a calculation outside of the btn sub, like into a function or a different sub?
