Creating A Condition - IF Statement Which Is Checking Each Row In The Data Table
May 4, 2011
I have a IF statement which is checking each row in the data table (for a match) and ELSE statement with commands which are executed if the If statement is not satisfied. Now I would like to write like so that it goes to the Else part BUT ONLY for values which are not satisfied in the IF statement. If I am more specific; I would like to calculate values if a match is found and just print them if it is not fond (usually there are both cases). Now the problem is the bold text; if there is a match found I don't want it processed BUT if the match is found I do. How can I write that?
currencyPosition = 0
Dim d As Integer = w + 100
For Each currency In Ary
I am trying to insert into a DB with has the following columns: ID (autonumber), BonderIdentifier (text), Username (text), Login (date), Logout (date). BonderIdentifier, Username, Login is the PK.
Here is what I do: Public Function submitNewToDB(ByVal sessionData As BonderSession) As Boolean Dim cn As OleDbConnection Dim cmd As OleDbCommand Dim str As String [Code] .....
Like I said I get an insert into error and I dont know why. Nothing is in the DB yet and the table is created. I ran the built string in Access as such: Insert into Session ([BonderIdentifier], [Username], [Login]) values ('Mork', 'sean', '2/23/2010 11:12:42 AM') And it works.... but in VS it doesn't.
My aim is to choose a value from Listbox1 and on Listbox2 I would like to display the corresponding value from a table in my database. I mean, when I select Product A from Listbox1 (which is getting its values from row "Model" in my database table), I should see its price on Listbox2 which is available in the "Price" row of the same table (and also manipulate this price in different places for calculation etc.) . I am not sure if the best way is using "databinding.filter".
Here is the code I have but I cannot making it work:
Dim dtCOP As New AmetailorDataSet.COPDataTable Dim adapterCOP As New AmetailorDataSetTableAdapters.COPTableAdapter adapterCOP.Fill(dtCOP)
[code]...
A small note: my aim was using a Richtextbox instead of Listbox but I am told that Richtextbox is not suitable for using with datasources.
I have an SQL statement which i need to code in vb:
CODE:
Notice the fields prodno1 and prodno2 in the table structure.. this is part of a number of sql statements i need to run and put inside a loop. my problem is i want to automatically use this same code such that on the next loop, this sql statement is going to be:
CODE:
Note that in this "2nd loop"
- the table name is now r3 from r2 in the first SQL statement - there are now prodno1, prodno2 and prodno3 instead of just prodno1 and prodno2 - in the WHERE clause, the p.prodNo becomes p.prodNo2
And so on and so forth.. so for the 3rd loop
- there's going to be r4 - there's going to be prodno4 - in the WHERE clause i will use p.prodNo3
My application uses 12 checkboxes. Dependant on the status (checked or unchecked) different action are required. I can't seem to be able to structure a for next loop to do this.
I'm implementing a State Machine in WF 4.0. In some transitions, I have added a condition where I check that some variables have the expected values. The variables are enums and booleans, and everything is fine.
However, now I tried to evaluate when a property is null. I have and argument in my workflow, let's say, 'MyArgument'. In a transition, I try to put a condition like 'MyArgument.MyProperty = Nothing'. I never developed in VB.NET, I don't know if I'm missing something here...
VS2010 gives the following error: "Error 4 Compiler error(s) encountered processing expression "MyArg.MyProp = Nothing". Operator '=' is not defined for types 'XXXX' and 'XXXX'
The type names are exactly the same, and I have debugged VS2010 to ensure that my assembly is not loaded from 2 different locations.
How can I check if the property is null or not?
BTW, I'm using VS2010 SP 1, with .NET Platform Update 1 installed, on W7 64 bits.
I think im going mad but can some show me what im missing, it must be some stupidly simple i just cant see the wood for the trees.BOTH side of this if then else statement are being executed?
Ive tried commenting out the true side and moving the condition to a seperate variable with the same result. However if i explicitly set the condition to 1=0 or 1=1 then the if then statement is operating as i would expect. i.e. only executing one side of the equation...
The only time ive seen this sort of thing is when the compiler has crashed and is no longer compiling (without visible indication that its not) but ive restarted studio with the same results, ive cleaned the solution, built and rebuilt with no change?
Dim dset As DataSet = New DataSet If (CboCustomers.SelectedValue IsNot Nothing) AndAlso (CboCustomers.SelectedValue <> "") Then Dim Sql As String = "Select sal.SalesOrderNo As SalesOrder,cus.CustomerName,has.SerialNo,
I need to write an sql statement that has an IF condition in it
This is my current statment:
"SELECT * From History Where DelNoteNum = " & delNote & " ORDER BY StockLoc"
What I need to do though is if the StockLoc > 4000 then group by ProductCode. I definatly only need to do this if the stock location is greater than 4000 though.
I am trying to input specific information on a form.I have created an sql statement from a table that will out put 18 rows of data.I have opened a recordset and instituted a do until loop.I need for the program to look at each row and if the Standard Score = the value of a field I have on the form it takes the value of the other three columns in updates it on the form.I have created the code and it works for upto 3 (Do Until loops)records, but when I try to add a 4th in the SQL statement and put in another do loop my computer runs it but it acts as if it freezes up. [code]
I have three tables set up in a MySQL database called "event", "status" and "user". (as shown below:
EVENT TABLE (below) STATUS TABLE (below) USER TABLE (below)
and when I get data from the event table I use the SQL query statement below to bind the persons first and last names together as one variable called "name" and then bind that name to the respective user_id; and so on. However when I make changes to the event table it doesn't show the changes I've made. I'm certain it has something to do with the way I'm retrieving the data.
SELECT CONCAT(u.lastname, ', ', u.firstname) AS Name , s.message AS Message , DATE_FORMAT(e.timestamp,'%b %d %Y - %r') AS DateTime[code].....
Attempting to run an SQL statement to UPDATE a column in a table with new data. The column being updated is defined as varchar(40) and the new data is 41 bytes (varchar(41)). I get a generic 'data will be truncated' error message, but no detail on which column caused the problem. I've attached a sample VB program to illustrate the issue. In this scenario, Company is defined as varchar(40).
My question: Can I get a more detailed error message? i.e. can I get an error message that tells me the row and column that the truncation occurs in? Often times, I may be updating hundreds or thousands of rows and only one value in one column from the source file is too large for a database cell. As a related question, does each OLEDB provider create its own error messages. i.e. will the MS SQL Server OLEDB provider potentially give different text in the error message than say the MS Jet OLEDB provider?
Imports System.Data.OleDb Module Module1 Dim cn As OleDbConnection
i want to make condition statement in my function. i use this method : [code]if i try to insert a data already in the database, the function will directly go to the updateDatabase()the problem is, if i try to insert the data that currently not in the database, the function will directly go to update database as well.
I have an installer for my application that makes changes to the registry for better application performance However, depending on the language of the operating system installed this input need changes For example (which is the case itself) Systems in Portuguese the entry is called (Padrao)Systems in English the entry is called (Default) I know I have I change the property "Condition" of the entry I created but I do not know what I have to write in this "Condition" I write within this property to validate that The system is in English or The system is in Portuguese I plan to put the project set two registry entries, one that will be done on systems with English language and other entry in systems with Portuguese language?
I am working on a front-end application program and cannot figure out what is giving me this error. The program is accessing an Access Database and filling a text box on the form. The error i keep receiving is "Index out of range", "No row at position 0". I have information in the data table, and when I type the select statement into a query in Access, it returns the information in the data table.[code]...
I'm trying to run an INSERT statement to pass data from a datagrid to a table I have on my database. The problem I have is that the table has 6 columns and the datagrid has only 3. So I only want to pass those 3 columns but I get the error that the other 3 columns does not accept null values. I need to change the columns to accept null values. The other problem it is that I can't pass more than 9 records, if I have more than 9 record on the DataGrid it says "object not set as an instance of a reference" and it only add 9 records if I have more than 9.
Dim RowCount As Integer = datagrid1.Rows.Count - 1 Dim ColumnCount As Integer = datagrid1.Columns.Count - 1 Dim RowIndex, ColumnIndex As Integer Dim myconecction As String myconecction = My.Settings.DataSource [Code] .....
I have a requirement where I have to add items into a List(Of T) (let's call it Target) from an IEnumerable(Of T) (let's call it Source) using Target.AddRange() in VB.NET.
The ? part is a tricky condition that is something like: As long as the as yet unenumerated count is not equal to what is needed to fill the list to the minimum required then randomly decide if the current item should be taken, otherwise take the item.Somethig like...
Source.Count() - Index = _minimum_required - _curr_count_of_items_taken _ OrElse GetRandomNumberBetween1And100() <= _probability_this_item_is_taken ' _minimum_required and _probability_this_item_is_taken are constants
The confounding part is that _curr_count_of_items_taken needs to be incremented each time the TakeWhile statement is satisfied. How would I go about doing that? I'm also open to a solution that uses any other LINQ methods (Aggregate, Where, etc.) instead of TakeWhile.If all else fails then I will go back to using a good old for-loop =)
I'm creating a table with the CREATE statement and it is working fine, but I have to lopp thru one of the columns. I have a value on variable and I will have to create the column depending on the variable value. Here is my code. I need to loop thru the Rnd column renaming it like this

currencyPosition = 0 Dim d As Integer = w + 100 For Each currency In Ary If Not currency = "" Then For i = 0 To dt.Rows.Count - 1 [Code] .....
We are creating a VB program for school to collect data on student attendance and populate it to a table. I have all of the 'GET' statements but am having trouble creating the 'Insert' procedure. This is what I have so far. The form being used to fill the table has 4 items being recorded. 'Present' radio button marked as present, tardy or absent; StudentId, PeriodId and date. Not sure if we are on the right track. The target table is tmAttendance. There are approximately 25 rows of data on the input form.
I am currently trying to make an insert statement that will first check for exceptions before it is sent to the SQL server, I am new to this and would like to know what errors I should be looking out for and also what code should I use to ensure the errors will be caught. [code]This is a continuation of a previous thread...it was getting kind of long and the initial issue was resolved so i decided to open a new thread..

I am using a MS Access database as the backend of my VB.NET application. I am entering users details into the database using an INSERT INTO statement:
cn = New OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0; Data Source=" & config("DatabasePath") & ";") cn.Open()cmd = New OleDbCommand("INSERT INTO blah blah blah...", cn) dr = cmd.ExecuteReader
