Feb 9, 2010
I am using a MS Access database as the backend of my VB.NET application. I am entering users details into the database using an INSERT INTO statement:
cn = New OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0; Data Source=" & config("DatabasePath") & ";")
cn.Open()cmd = New OleDbCommand("INSERT INTO blah blah blah...", cn)
dr = cmd.ExecuteReader

I am currently trying to make an insert statement that will first check for exceptions before it is sent to the SQL server, I am new to this and would like to know what errors I should be looking out for and also what code should I use to ensure the errors will be caught. [code]This is a continuation of a previous thread...it was getting kind of long and the initial issue was resolved so i decided to open a new thread..

here is my code so far:
Public Sub cmdSave_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles cmdSave.Click
Dim i As Integer
[Code].....
when i click the button, i get a error message saying "Syntax error in INSERT INTO statement". as far as i can tell, i have everything i need to insert a new row into the database, and i dont see why this problem is occuring.
item(0) is an autonumber key field, so that should make a new record by itself, and i have declared the input textboxes as the data() array

I am trying to execute a command that inserts a row but I keep getting the error "Database error Syntax error in INSERT INTO statement." What am I doing incorrectly? I know for Ole Db refers to the parameters by sequence and I've done in the correct sequence. I left out the ID since it is auto generated could that be causing a problem?

How will I insert the output of my DataGridView to another table in the database? I have 4 Columns. The First and Second Columns are Check Boxes. The Third is The Stockholder Code. The Forth is The Stockholder Name. What I want to happen is, my selected records(The Stockholder Code, The Stockholder Name ) via check boxes will be inserted in my database.
Here's what I've done so far:
Try
For Each row As DataGridViewRow In DataGridView1.Rows

I've been at this for a bit now, and I have tried using google extensively. I have my application set up: it is a HWID System available only to paid subscribers. I want buyers to be able to click on a 'buy now button', and once they successfully pay it automatically adds their information into the database the app uses. This way there is no waiting after payments. I know this is possible, because I've seen it done before - I just can't seem to find how it works?

Im making a small program and i think im on the hardest bit at the moment, Writing stuff to a database.Its only the username & password at the moment.Username is in textbox, password in textbox2.I have a list view with my current login in but im having trouble putting a new username and password in.This is the code i have for the "save" button.
Private Sub Button2_Click_1(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button2.Click
'Add Button
con.Open()[code]..
The above gives me "Number of query values and destination fields are not the same".Ive also had "Syntax error in INSERT INTO statement".I just cannot seem to save anything into the database.I obviously have a connection string and can read from the database.

I have a IF statement which is checking each row in the data table (for a match) and ELSE statement with commands which are executed if the If statement is not satisfied. Now I would like to write like so that it goes to the Else part BUT ONLY for values which are not satisfied in the IF statement. If I am more specific; I would like to calculate values if a match is found and just print them if it is not fond (usually there are both cases). Now the problem is the bold text; if there is a match found I don't want it processed BUT if the match is found I do. How can I write that?
currencyPosition = 0
Dim d As Integer = w + 100
For Each currency In Ary

I have a form where two fields on the first page of the form make up the primary key. I want to check for duplicate values before attempting to insert the record, since I don't want the user to go all the way through the form only to find out they can't submit it. So I'm trying to check for duplicate values when the user tries to go to the next page of the form. I wasn't quite sure how to do it, and sure enough I'm getting an error. ("Object reference not set to an instance of an object.") The problem is apparently in my if statement, "If myValue.Length > 0 Then", but I'm not sure what needs to be in place of that.
Protected Sub CustomValidator1_ServerValidate(ByVal source As Object, ByVal args As System.Web.UI.WebControls.ServerValidateEventArgs) Handles CustomValidator1.ServerValidate
'get values

- In my database, there's 2 table....Log, Application
- I am trying to construct a sentence for my log, something like..
(E.g.: Apply Annual Leave from Monday to Friday)
- Words in bold are to be retrieved from the Application table (database)
Here's my vb code (I am not sure whether I should be using array or not and I am not so sure how to use it too).
Private Sub btnCancel_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnCancel.Click
con.ConnectionString = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0; data source= H:\Project\user.mdb"
con.Open()
sql = "SELECT * From Log"
[Code] .....
But when I view my Log..something like this appear
- How do I let the array know that the statement is an sql statement, not text??
- or Is there any other way to do it?
