I am trying to input specific information on a form.I have created an sql statement from a table that will out put 18 rows of data.I have opened a recordset and instituted a do until loop.I need for the program to look at each row and if the Standard Score = the value of a field I have on the form it takes the value of the other three columns in updates it on the form.I have created the code and it works for upto 3 (Do Until loops)records, but when I try to add a 4th in the SQL statement and put in another do loop my computer runs it but it acts as if it freezes up. I have a bound data table bound to a datagridview. Every time the user clicks on a link to "add" a transaction, it's supposed to write to the register.
It does, but it writes it to the first line, and then overwrites it each additional click. How do I append, autoincrement, sequentially go to the next line?[code]....

I have three tables set up in a MySQL database called "event", "status" and "user". (as shown below:
EVENT TABLE (below)
STATUS TABLE (below)
USER TABLE (below)
and when I get data from the event table I use the SQL query statement below to bind the persons first and last names together as one variable called "name" and then bind that name to the respective user_id; and so on. However when I make changes to the event table it doesn't show the changes I've made. I'm certain it has something to do with the way I'm retrieving the data.

Attempting to run an SQL statement to UPDATE a column in a table with new data. The column being updated is defined as varchar(40) and the new data is 41 bytes (varchar(41)). I get a generic 'data will be truncated' error message, but no detail on which column caused the problem. I've attached a sample VB program to illustrate the issue. In this scenario, Company is defined as varchar(40).
My question: Can I get a more detailed error message? i.e. can I get an error message that tells me the row and column that the truncation occurs in? Often times, I may be updating hundreds or thousands of rows and only one value in one column from the source file is too large for a database cell. As a related question, does each OLEDB provider create its own error messages. i.e. will the MS SQL Server OLEDB provider potentially give different text in the error message than say the MS Jet OLEDB provider?

I have a IF statement which is checking each row in the data table (for a match) and ELSE statement with commands which are executed if the If statement is not satisfied. Now I would like to write like so that it goes to the Else part BUT ONLY for values which are not satisfied in the IF statement. If I am more specific; I would like to calculate values if a match is found and just print them if it is not fond (usually there are both cases). Now the problem is the bold text; if there is a match found I don't want it processed BUT if the match is found I do. How can I write that?

I'm trying to run an INSERT statement to pass data from a datagrid to a table I have on my database. The problem I have is that the table has 6 columns and the datagrid has only 3. So I only want to pass those 3 columns but I get the error that the other 3 columns does not accept null values. I need to change the columns to accept null values. The other problem it is that I can't pass more than 9 records, if I have more than 9 record on the DataGrid it says "object not set as an instance of a reference" and it only add 9 records if I have more than 9.

I am creating a project in VB.NET in which one of the reports require that the name of employees should be displayed as column names and whatever work they have done for a stated period should appear in rows below that particular column.Now as it is clear, the columns will have to be added at runtime. Am using an ODBC Data source to populate the grid. Also since a loop will have to be done to find out the work done by employees individually, so the number of rows under one column might be less or more than the rows in the next column.Is there a way to create an empty data table and then update its contents based on columns and not add data based on addition of new rows.

I have Dataset ds filled up with values Until now I was displaying values in GridView. Now I want that all the rows should be columns and columns should be rows.I have 2 options: Either 1 I can directly convert grid to columns and display it, or 2 I can convert the GridView to html and then write loops to convert. I'm writing a scheduling program that queries a MySQL database for today's appointments and uses a Table Layout Panel with employees on the top and times on the left to display the schedule. I am trying to add another table ontop of that table for each appointment and set the rowspan of that dynamic table to occupy the time slot of that appointment from start to finish.ll the appointments appear in the dynamic table and each dynamic table appears in the appropriate starting positions in the main table. When you are designing GUI's and put a Table within a table, you get a RowSpan and ColumnSpan option for that inner table. The problem I'm having is the dynamic tables are not giving me a RowSpan option, which I believe is because it was created using code and doesn't know that it's inside another table.Here is part of the code... I have some variable that when divided I get this symbol: -1.#IND when you look at the variable in debug. This only happens when I put the equation in the Dim statement.

I don't have a problem. Why when I put the equation up in the declaration area it sets it to -1.#IND (I assume this is infinite or NAN or some such). I'm curious as this is the only time I've had difficulty with this.

[Code] my issue is that now i need two cases, first i need a query that will return the date created and modified of the table and i also need to know if its possible to query a list of table names in the database ordered by date created but that have a certain thing in their names. for example the database contains the following tables: [Code] and what i need the query to return is the tables that contain "Data", settings and employees are for the other functions of the program. so the query should return the 4 data tables in order of date created. but i have no idea how to go about doing that in the query, does anyone know how this is done?

how to create a conditional statement if the value of rows is zero or not.I want my output to something like... The following VB line, where _DSversionInfo is a DataSet, returns no rows:
_DSversionInfo.Tables("VersionInfo").Select("FileID=88")
But inspection shows that the table contains rows with FileID's of 92, 93, 94, 90, 88, 89, 215, 216. The table columns are all of type string.
Further investigation showed that using the ID of 88, 215 and 216 will only return rows if the number is quoted.
i.e. _DSversionInfo.Tables("VersionInfo").Select("FileID='88'")
All other rows work regardless of whether the number is quoted or not. I understand that the numbers should be quoted just not why some work and others don't?

I'm trying to update a row via c# winform application. The update query generated from the application is formatted correctly. I tested it in the sql server environment, it worked well. When i run it from the application i get 0 rows updated.Here is the snippet that generates the update statement using reflection - don't try to figure it out. Carry on reading after the code portion:

The above final update statement works on the sql environment, but when running via the application, the execute non query runs ok and gets 0 rows updated!

I've got a table in an SQL server that often has large amounts of data imported into it via an automated process - the problem is that a lot of the data that gets imported is a duplicate of data that is already in there (for example if we have a customer in there called Mr Customer Ltd, a duplicate with a slightly different name could get imported, like Mr.Customer Ltd).
So I am using the Fuzzy Logic class that Wild Bill put in the CodeBank to find names that are similar and then highlight these items. The thing is that the target table that the imported data ends up in has several thousand rows and the table that contains the data to be imported often contains several thousand rows as well, so I'm trying to decide how to do this. Obviously reading both tables into memory is not an option as it will consume too much memory on the client PC that is running this app. So this is what I am doing at the moment:
1. Read the table that contains data to be imported into a DataTable in memory
2. Open a connection to the target table and use the SQLDataReader to start to loop through it
3. In this loop, for each row that the data reader reads I then loop through the entire set of rows in the DataTable and run this fuzzy logic method that compares the account name from the current row in the datatable loop to the account name in the row that the datareader is currently on.(there is also a Thread.Sleep(1) after each row is processed to prevent the process from eating up 100% of the CPU while it runs)

Can anyone tell me why "Rows cannot be programmatically added to the DataGridView's rows collection when the control is data-bound." I keep getting an error "Invalid Operation Exception was Unhandled" error. All I am attempting to do is allow the user to select products from a list(or a second datagridview) and have it added to the datagridview so they do not have to type in every cell since the other cells are not visible because they do not purtain to their needs. Plus they will be able to save all items at the same time.
