C# - How To Write Global Snippets Program With .NET
Aug 26, 2009
I want to write my own global snippets tool for Windows XP and higher. This would be an always running in the background tool that would pop-up on a globally-defined hotkey, allow me to select a snippet with substitution arguments, and then paste the expanded snippet into the text input of whatever control I had been in when activated it, and finally, return me to that previous app/input box.
I know how to do most of the algorithmic aspects, but I do not know how to accomplish these windows-based features:
1 - Global Hotkey: how do I define a key-sequence in windows (from .net?) that will work, even when entering data in another apps textbox? (Usually this will be a browser window)
2 - Pasting Into Another App: I could use the paste-buffer and Ctrl-C, but I want to avoid the extra keystrokes.
3 - Return Control to Original Window: Seamlessly return back into my input stream: how do I do that? In fact, how does my tool even know where I was before it popped up?
The reasons that I want to write this myself is first to learn how (because there are other tools like this I would like to make) and secondly, I don't know of any snippets tools that have the argument substitution that I want. So, the two (2)questions are A) What should be my general approach? and B) how best can I accomplish items 1 to 3 above?
Boss wants us to start adding uniform comment headings to Functions and Files, so I tried to write some snippets to do it, but I can't get it to work.[code]...
Can i write 2 classes for one Script Task editor in SSIS(2008). I tried to access the global variable like below. I created 2 classes and it doesn't show any compile error, but i couldn't access the global variable in class2 which was assigned as 2 in class, ScriptMain.
evrytime i add new controls to a form in vb.net the designer regenerates code and asks me to make corrections, so i have to keep on changing the object declarations to global using the 'global' keyword evertime it regenarates code, especialy dataset objects.how can i prevent this?
I want to launch a bunch of threads, each performing the same task, and know in main() when each finishs and it if it was successful or failed. The solution offered was to use a ConcurrentQueue, but other posts have recommended using a BackgroundWorker Class, or a thread pool.Is there a definitive answer?Again, all threads perform the same code and have a pass/fail result. I want to run more than there are available threads so as soon as one thread finishes I will launch another asap - I want tehm to stress a remote systems as much as possible (reather than stressing my local PC with too many threads, so I will need to experiment to determine the optimal number of threads).
i could use Global x as string in vb6 in a module to declare it with global privelages, how can i do this in vb2008? how to declare a global variable in vb2008? so that i could use it anywhere i want. i know global variables are not recommended in programming but i need one.
where I might find C# versions of the VB.NET code snippets built in to Visual Studio (2008)?What are Code Snippets?VB.NET has a wide-ranging collection of snippets that cover most of the basic tasks one might want to accomplish, i.e. File I/O, LINQ, DB connectivity, and so on. C# has a much smaller and narrower library, mainly stuff for NetFX 3.0, Refactoring, and something called "other", among one or two other items.
I recently made the switch to a new job and consequently the switch from VB.NET to C#. One thing that I miss is all the snippets that are available in VB.NET. VB.NET comes with ~400 snippets and C# only comes with ~100. Also, I have noticed that the majority of VB.NET snippets are task oriented which is exceptionally helpful when you hit those tasks that you only do every now and again (e.g. DeterminetheAmountofIsolatedStorageAvailable).
So, before I go through the pain of converting my favorite VB.NET snippets over to C#, does anyone know if someone has already done this and made it available for download?
For Each sheet In WB.Sheets wbSheetNames.Add(sheet.Name) Next sheet
Snippet 2:
For i = 0 To sheetNames.Count - 1 wb.Sheets(i + 2).Name = sheetNames(i).Replace(currMonth, nextMonth) Next
[code]....
Is there some construct or method that can do these in 1 line?
Note:All the snippets are different and should not be clubbed. These are the situations where I think there might be a smarter way of doing these simple tasks.
I'm making some snippets and I want to position the cursor. I've come acros "$end$" but all examples I see are in c#. Since recently I've started programming in vb.net again and it seems $end$ isn't recognized or doesn't work here. Is there another keyword in vb to do the same?
I need to port an old Clipper app to vb.net. It relies heavily on user-written macros and indeed would be almost impossible to create without them. As VB is interpreted, I am sure it must be possible to implement code that the user has entered, but I have no idea how to do so!
Is there a way to reset to the original vb.net snippets that came along with visual studio 2008? I recently installed a purchased third party lib, that managed to break almost all the default snippets. I can see that the snippets do physically exist in C:Program FilesMicrosoft Visual Studio 9.0VBSnippets1033 but only the following sections are loaded to vs 2008:
Why is there such tremendous effort made on microsofts part to hide the fact that you cannot write SurroundsWith code snippets for Visual Basic, and the $end$ and $selected$ reserved words dont work in Visual Basic.
Micro$osft... YOUVE HAD 3 VERSIONS OF VISUAL STUDIO TO GET THIS WORKING... WHY THE H3LL IS IT STILL A STEAMING PILE FOR VISUAL BASIC. I HAVE TO BUY A THIRD PARTY PRODUCT TO ENABLE FUNCTIONALITY THAT YOU REFUSE TO WRITE FOR VISUAL BASIC.
Can you tell this is infuriating? I spent a TON of hours finding out about this sorely lacking functionality that you should have plastered ALL OVER your snippets documentation on MSDN. I hear you're a HORRIBLE company to work for, but should I ever need a job and have to dig at the bottom of the barrel, I think you OWE me a g.d. job now.
I am working on a project that includes having my VB app pull event log data from a Windows 200x server remotely. Does anyone have any code snippets or reference sites that would have information on remotely accessing admin functions/data in a Win2Kx server environment?
how i can write a program to create a shortcut in the startup folder of a different program. So i have one program on my computer that should run at startup, i just need another program to create a shortcut to it, and then copy this shortcut into the startup folder.
i have to write a program for my VB class that consists of a resistance checker program. I've searched like a madman to help me through this and I have found nothing >. The program consists of 2 combo boxes, the first one is the nominal resistance drop down list of the numbers :100, 150, 220, 330, 470, 680, 820 and 1000. The second list is of the tolerance numbers; +/- 0.4%, +/-0.6% and +/-0.8%. Now what i want to do is select a number from the first combo box and select the tolerance level of the second combo box and i input the resistor of said value into the text box. when i click the check resistor button it should display a message saying if the resistor is in or out of tolerance. For now I have the form all laid out and the values inputted into both combo boxes and i can go to run the program i am able to select said values. Now my problem is trying to get the right code so that i can check the resistors value.
I am currently making a GUI for Minecraft Coder Pack. MCP works off a system of batch files that launch python programs. I want to be able to read and write to these cmd windows throught vb.net. So that I can tell when a process has finished or to answer a yes, no question i nthe python program, with a gui from vb.net[code]\...
I have a theme called 'Zune' on my computer, and like the way it looks. Is there a way too, make the program use the 'Zune' theme..even if the computer itself is using the default xxxx theme?I can simulate it by doing the graphics, but to make the program border less, then to do the move code when they click on the image box...etc... makes it for tedious work.
If I could somehow make the program use the theme..
My friend's birthday is coming up in 4 days. I am currently out of the country(on the other side of the world),and I want to give her a program for her birthday.
Some time ago, I did some F# programming, the following code is used to serialize/deserialize float32 array:#light
However, nowadays, I have to do some programming in VB.NET to serialize/deserialize float32 array again. As F# programming is not suitable for GUI, but GUI is necessary for my current programming.I want to know how I can rewrite the above code in VB.NET.For example, I have a float32 array, (I dont know what data type in VB.NET is equivalent to float32 array in F#) of (1.0, 2.0, 3.0); I want to serialize it using DataContractSerializer, then read it back so I can still get the same float32 array.
i want to write a program in visual basic .net 2003 console application that will take one variable and then a menu to ask what the user wishes to do.the menu is a conversion of currency i have a code that worked but i whenever i press the other option on the menu the screen just closes
here is the code :
Dim x As Double Dim y As Double Dim z As Double Dim m As Integer
I need to write a program in vb.net using Do while, for next and do loop. Th eprogram will sum all the even integers between 2 and 50. This is what I have so far
Dim intCount, intNumber as integer intCount = 0 intNumber = 0
I have to write a program that uses a class...and I've got no idea what it is or how to do that.My program is a simple interface that adds up the users selections and quantifies them into a membership fee.
Code: Public Class Form1 Const FamMem As Integer = 90 Const SigMem As Integer = 50
