C# - How To Write Global Snippets Program With .NET
Aug 26, 2009I want to write my own global snippets tool for Windows XP and higher. This would be an always running in the background tool that would pop-up on a globally-defined hotkey, allow me to select a snippet with substitution arguments, and then paste the expanded snippet into the text input of whatever control I had been in when activated it, and finally, return me to that previous app/input box.
I know how to do most of the algorithmic aspects, but I do not know how to accomplish these windows-based features:
1 - Global Hotkey: how do I define a key-sequence in windows (from .net?) that will work, even when entering data in another apps textbox? (Usually this will be a browser window)
2 - Pasting Into Another App: I could use the paste-buffer and Ctrl-C, but I want to avoid the extra keystrokes.
3 - Return Control to Original Window: Seamlessly return back into my input stream: how do I do that? In fact, how does my tool even know where I was before it popped up?
The reasons that I want to write this myself is first to learn how (because there are other tools like this I would like to make) and secondly, I don't know of any snippets tools that have the argument substitution that I want.So, the two (2)questions are A) What should be my general approach? and B) how best can I accomplish items 1 to 3 above?

I need to create something that first multiplies the MMDDYY (ie X=MM * DD * YY) then also adds the MMDDYY then finds the remainder and then multiplies but a specified number. I would like to create a small program that sits in the system tray with this code displayed. The code will always need to be 6 characters, so I might need to pad it with zeros. It has been years since I took basic VB, and I am really rusty.

(Much more complicated than +,-,/,*, and above your usual scientific calculator)Its works quite well .In past programs I have used "private functions". I know that you give them a value and it returns on back. But what if you dont want to recive or send value? My example for this is a function I am attempting to make called "Autopi".The idea of Autopi is that whenever a mathimatical operation is about to be performed textbox(s) are cheked to see if they contain pi. (3.14 or 3.141) If they test positive Autopi will continue pi to however many places have been specifyed in the program. (Currently 300 places just beacuse i can :) Before the Autopi function does this it chekes to see if variable "pi" = 1. If it does it proceeds if it doesent its job is done

Nov 23, 2010I have a program that uses the mouse to find window captions. I made a test program that just does that and it works fine. I copied and pasted the code into my other program and it doesn't work. The mouse position changes, but it will only get the caption of a window if it is at the top of the screen. It seems that only the Mouse.X position is changing, but I put the MousePosition.X and Y in a label and they are both changing. Can anyone explain why this is happening?

Feb 11, 2010I recently made the switch to a new job and consequently the switch from VB.NET to C#. One thing that I miss is all the snippets that are available in VB.NET. VB.NET comes with ~400 snippets and C# only comes with ~100. Also, I have noticed that the majority of VB.NET snippets are task oriented which is exceptionally helpful when you hit those tasks that you only do every now and again (e.g. DeterminetheAmountofIsolatedStorageAvailable).
So, before I go through the pain of converting my favorite VB.NET snippets over to C#, does anyone know if someone has already done this and made it available for download?

I need the program to subtract 20% when a non profit check box is ticked (chkNP in my case)
I have the rest of the app functional:

Basically the application is a tool or determining the cost of packages from an ISP
Package A: 10 hr access. $9.95 mo. $2 each additional hour
Package B: 20 hr access $14.95 $1 each hour
package C : unlimited. $19.95 a mo
So basically the app needs to apply a %20 discount to each of these when that checkbox is ticked
