Is there a way to reset to the original vb.net snippets that came along with visual studio 2008? I recently installed a purchased third party lib, that managed to break almost all the default snippets. I can see that the snippets do physically exist in C:Program FilesMicrosoft Visual Studio 9.0VBSnippets1033 but only the following sections are loaded to vs 2008:
Why is there such tremendous effort made on microsofts part to hide the fact that you cannot write SurroundsWith code snippets for Visual Basic, and the $end$ and $selected$ reserved words dont work in Visual Basic.
Micro$osft... YOUVE HAD 3 VERSIONS OF VISUAL STUDIO TO GET THIS WORKING... WHY THE H3LL IS IT STILL A STEAMING PILE FOR VISUAL BASIC. I HAVE TO BUY A THIRD PARTY PRODUCT TO ENABLE FUNCTIONALITY THAT YOU REFUSE TO WRITE FOR VISUAL BASIC.
Can you tell this is infuriating? I spent a TON of hours finding out about this sorely lacking functionality that you should have plastered ALL OVER your snippets documentation on MSDN. I hear you're a HORRIBLE company to work for, but should I ever need a job and have to dig at the bottom of the barrel, I think you OWE me a g.d. job now.
I recently made the switch to a new job and consequently the switch from VB.NET to C#. One thing that I miss is all the snippets that are available in VB.NET. VB.NET comes with ~400 snippets and C# only comes with ~100. Also, I have noticed that the majority of VB.NET snippets are task oriented which is exceptionally helpful when you hit those tasks that you only do every now and again (e.g. DeterminetheAmountofIsolatedStorageAvailable).
So, before I go through the pain of converting my favorite VB.NET snippets over to C#, does anyone know if someone has already done this and made it available for download?
I was just wondering if anyone out there has experienced the same problem as i. I have tried using open process with ReadProcessMemory and have been getting the same darn return value back (OpenProcess return value = 373662154752) and i dont know why.I tried even changing the processID to a bogus value and i get the same handle back! i find that really weird and frusterating. Anyways here is a snipet of my code.
[Code]...
I also want to mention that i have tried changing the Access rights to PROCESS_ALL_ACCESS and received same damn value... Any help on getting it to work would be appreaciated. Also i am working under windows 7 X64(Bit) if that makes any difference.
P.S If you have questions to why im using these api functions, its to do with creating a program to save information from stored buffers of a flight simulation software at bombardier where i work. All software has been given to me in order to build this program.
I've been using 'Process.Start()' for awhile now, to open web pages. And now, recently, I've noticed that it does not work anymore. Is there a solution to this? my format for it is:[URL]..and this does not work. It Throws and esception saying that the Parameter's were in-correct. This error just suddenly started appearing, no idea why.
Associating an Event with an Event Handler, in the VB 2008 Express Edition Learn VB tutorial, but the link to "Events and Event Handlers"does not work.
I've written a piece of software which extracts information from the web and stores it all to a local SQL Server database which all works well. However, I now want to add additional functionality where any user can go in and create a template which would be run when every synch has complete which would save as an HTML file. I've set up whole thing. Information is stored in a backend XML file which is processed when the synch completes. However, I want this information to check delimeters in the string and process it as code.
I'm trying to finish up Visual Basic project for a class to create a playlist of files and to have them played.I have everything working if I single click the item from my list, and then click the play button in the WMP control portion of my form.I then want to add the functionality of double clicking the selection in the list and play with the following code:
[code]...
and nothing seems to happen.Digging into values of the debugger at the time I try to play the file:
[code]...
The sourceURL of the first item in the playlist is correct, but the duration is 0:00 (it should be 0:01). Since it seems there is no duration detected, nothing is played. Any idea what I missed? Again, if I single click the file, which sets the playlist as I want, then click PLAY on the GUI controls, it works fine. Also, is there any way for the program to detect when the song has changed when playing a playlist of multiple songs? I want to have label fields showing "Now Playing" information that would change info as the songs change, and maybe even change the item selected as things are played. I've not yet found a way to detect this change, only when the player starts and stops in general.
where I might find C# versions of the VB.NET code snippets built in to Visual Studio (2008)?What are Code Snippets?VB.NET has a wide-ranging collection of snippets that cover most of the basic tasks one might want to accomplish, i.e. File I/O, LINQ, DB connectivity, and so on. C# has a much smaller and narrower library, mainly stuff for NetFX 3.0, Refactoring, and something called "other", among one or two other items.
I recently upgraded to Crystal Reports 2008 for the barcoding functionality. When we use the barcode in the report designer, it renders as expected, so we installed the Crystal Reports 2008 redistributable package on our dev server to test deployment, but we receive the error message listed below. I cannot locate any information about this issue on the business objects site, or azaleas site, or any info regarding deployment of barcoding functionality.
I want to unzip files from my program, so i'm using the Shell32 functionality like so:
Module Module1 Sub Main() Dim sc As New Shell32.Shell Dim srcDir As Shell32.Folder = sc.NameSpace("zippath") Dim destDir As Shell32.Folder = sc.NameSpace("destinationpath") Dim items As Shell32.FolderItems = srcDir.Items() destDir.CopyHere(items, 256) End Sub End Module
This theoretically works, but i'm unzipping an 8Gb compressed file and the dialog that pops up says it will be done in 1day, 19hours. This is ridiculous because when I just right click on the file and decompress it from there, it takes only a couple of minutes! I can't imagine what the problem is! I know that the shell process actually spawns its own thread, so I worried at first that my process was exiting before the thread could spawn and added a Thread.Sleep(1000) after destDir.CopyHere() but it had no effect.
For Each sheet In WB.Sheets wbSheetNames.Add(sheet.Name) Next sheet
Snippet 2:
For i = 0 To sheetNames.Count - 1 wb.Sheets(i + 2).Name = sheetNames(i).Replace(currMonth, nextMonth) Next
[code]....
Is there some construct or method that can do these in 1 line?
Note:All the snippets are different and should not be clubbed. These are the situations where I think there might be a smarter way of doing these simple tasks.
I'm making some snippets and I want to position the cursor. I've come acros "$end$" but all examples I see are in c#. Since recently I've started programming in vb.net again and it seems $end$ isn't recognized or doesn't work here. Is there another keyword in vb to do the same?
I want to write my own global snippets tool for Windows XP and higher. This would be an always running in the background tool that would pop-up on a globally-defined hotkey, allow me to select a snippet with substitution arguments, and then paste the expanded snippet into the text input of whatever control I had been in when activated it, and finally, return me to that previous app/input box.
I know how to do most of the algorithmic aspects, but I do not know how to accomplish these windows-based features:
1 - Global Hotkey: how do I define a key-sequence in windows (from .net?) that will work, even when entering data in another apps textbox? (Usually this will be a browser window)
2 - Pasting Into Another App: I could use the paste-buffer and Ctrl-C, but I want to avoid the extra keystrokes.
3 - Return Control to Original Window: Seamlessly return back into my input stream: how do I do that? In fact, how does my tool even know where I was before it popped up?
The reasons that I want to write this myself is first to learn how (because there are other tools like this I would like to make) and secondly, I don't know of any snippets tools that have the argument substitution that I want. So, the two (2)questions are A) What should be my general approach? and B) how best can I accomplish items 1 to 3 above?
I need to port an old Clipper app to vb.net. It relies heavily on user-written macros and indeed would be almost impossible to create without them. As VB is interpreted, I am sure it must be possible to implement code that the user has entered, but I have no idea how to do so!
Boss wants us to start adding uniform comment headings to Functions and Files, so I tried to write some snippets to do it, but I can't get it to work.[code]...
I'm using Response.AppendHeader("Refresh", "2; url=default.aspx") To send users back to the home page after they log in or log out and it works. But, on the contact us page it fails and this is what it says: The resource cannot be found. Description: HTTP 404. The resource you are looking for (or one of its dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. Please review the following URL and make sure that it is spelled correctly.Requested URL: /default.aspx, 2; url=default.aspx The weird thing is this doesn't happen in debug, only on the live site. It looks like it's appending the header twice somehow...
Trying to use ESRI MapObjects 2.4 in Visual Studio 2010 now traps an error when you instantiate the map object:Additional information: Could not load the structure 'ESRI.MapObjects2.Core.CancelActionConstants' from assembly 'ESRI.MapObjects2.Core, Version=2.4.1.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=8fc3cc631e44ad86'. The structure is marked as eligible for type equivalence, but it has a static or non-public field.
There is no </p> tag so i cannot parse it completely. Now i have two questions :
1) can this be parsed using httpagility xpath ?
2) i have a function to find text between two strings (getbetween). But i have a doubt - If i use "asdasdasd" and " is it always 100% that vb.net will use the script tag which is just above h3 because there are 2-3 same lines - "asdasdasd"
When I click the "Publish" tab for the project, I get the following message: An error occurred trying to load the page, The publish components are not available. You need to reinstall Visual Studio to publish your application. When I right-click the project and select "Publish," I get the same error Error: The publish components are not available. You need to reinstall Visual Studio to publish your application. ========== Build: 1 succeeded or up-to-date, 0 failed, 0 skipped ========== ========== Publish: 0 succeeded, 0 failed, 0 skipped ==========If I do things manually using MageUI, everything works fine.I have attempted the "Repair" option from the VS Setup, but this has not resolved the problem.
I am working on a project that includes having my VB app pull event log data from a Windows 200x server remotely. Does anyone have any code snippets or reference sites that would have information on remotely accessing admin functions/data in a Win2Kx server environment?
After over a year of debugging and searching I have come to the conclusion that the AxWindowsMediaPlayer PlayStageChange event is either broken or (almost) useless. I am not the only one that has come to this conclusion [URL]
Let's start with the official documentation for the PlayStateChange event: "Windows Media Player states are not guaranteed to occur in any particular order. Furthermore, not every state necessarily occurs during a sequence of events. You should not write code that relies upon state order." I have been a top level software developer for 25 years and I don't recall ever seeing documentation that officially states that a certain function cannot actually be relied upon in a repeatable fashion. I'm all for multi-threading but this is a bit astounding to say the least. I can only assume that this event is actually exposed soley for logging status.
We've recently upgraded from VS2008 to VS2010. The conversion of our vb.net Windows Forms app went well, but we're now having big problems with the forms designer.retty much any change to the layout of a form (sometimes just a solution rebuild) will work once, but on recompile, the IDE designer refuses to display the form, the error message being a null-reference exception (with no details as to what).Closing and restarting VS2010 will cure it, but only for one compile cycle - and it's obviously not practical to close and reopen every time. Closing and reopening the form does not fix it.
the page at [URL] says that double-checked locking is flawed in java. I'm just wondering does it also apply to other languages (C#, Vb, C++, etc)
I've read Double checked locking pattern: Broken or not?, Is this broken double checked locking?, How to solve the "Double-Checked Locking is Broken" Declaration in Java? to be truthful i don't know what the common consensus is. some say yes its broken others say no.
does it also apply to other languages (C#, Vb, C++, etc)
I am trying to use the intelesense snippet. I've read that typeing part of the shortcut + ? tab should bring up the selection of snippets for that shortcut.
I have a large-ish solution, with C# and VB.NET projects mixed. Whenever I try to o to definitionon a class, property or method thats defined in the other language, Visual Studio just takes me to the Object Browser, which is pretty annoying. Same for debugging: I cantep into a project that's written in the other language.
