C# - SCRIPT5007: Unable To Get Value Of The Property 'length': Object Is Null Or Undefined

Oct 16, 2011

I have a Javascript function for my select box, but after I included runat="server" to it, the script debugger highlights on this line below:

' for (i = 0; i < sourceTo.options.length; i++) { ' and says:

SCRIPT5007: Unable to get value of the property 'length': object is null or undefined

I included it because I wanted to loop through it in code behind and perform some other stuffs?

Code:

<select multiple size="8" style="width: 135px" runat="server" id="outletFromBox">
<option value="JP">Jurong Point</option>

.NET - NULL Object If Assigned String Length Is 0?

Jul 12, 2010

Currently, whenever I pass a string to the db, if that string is empty, then i set that object to NULL by doing the following:

IIf(DescriptionTxt.Text.length > 0, DescriptionTxt.Text, DBNull.Value)

I was thinking about writing a function to reduce the length of this code, and make it more consistent.However, I was wondering, is there already a way of doing this in .NET 3.5?

Check Object's Property For Null Or Empty String?

Jul 28, 2009

I'm using FileHelper to generate object's property. Here is an example of one property:

<FieldOptional(), _
FieldTrim(TrimMode.Both)> _
<FieldNullValue(GetType(String), " ")> _
Public StoreNo As String

As you can see the StoreNo will either have a value or " ", one of the business policy is to check if the StoreNo is empty or nothing if the object's StoreNo is empty or null then the record will not create.

I though about creating an HasValue Function in the class to check the StoreNo and other properties in the object but I feel like it is a hack.

Public Function HasValue() As Boolean
Dim _HasValue As Boolean = True
If StringHelper.IsNullOrBlank(Me.StoreNo) Then

[Code]....

I don't think this approach is an ideal solution. what if the StoreNo is remove or change to something else. What's the best approach to check object's property?

Unable To Retrieve AplicationSettings Information (object Name, Property Name) For Connection?

Dec 5, 2006

I am faced with the prospect of having to completely rewrite the application.I have suddenly started to get this error message all the time - it seemed to start after I added a table to the schema, but deleting the table makes no difference. I can't see anything wrong with the connection string, but as it seems to be entirely undocumented, that doesn't mean much.

The connection string contains DataSource=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory| est.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=Trueand certainly the string works when I use "test connection" from the application setting edit box. I am assuming that for some reason it is not evaluating the Data Directory , but can't see any reason why it shouldn't. Any ideas gratefully received! What might be a clue though is that I can't get rid of the table I added. I have deleted it from the database, deleted it from designer and saved the file, but it just keeps reapearing! Even when it is not showing, there is still a
table adapter in the .xsd file. I am reluctant to start editing this manually because of the danger of screwing something else up - I did try but it caused an error somewhere else (VS helpfully didn't say where)

and in my class

Null Check Always Returns Null, If Removed Returns Object Reference Not Set To An Instance Of An Object

Jun 24, 2010

I have some code which gets child items for a menu via the GetChildren function which takes a list of menuData: Dim builtMenu As New List(Of MenuData)(_rawData.FindAll(Function(item) item.GroupingID = 0))

For Each menuData As MenuData In builtMenu
If menuData.Children IsNot Nothing Then
menuData.Children.AddRange(GetChildren(menuData))
End If
Next

If I check if menudata.children isnot nothing, it always is nothing because the GetChildren function is yet to run (providing the child items, which do exist). If I remove this check and just have this code:

Dim builtMenu As New List(Of MenuData)(_rawData.FindAll(Function(item) item.GroupingID = 0))

For Each menuData As MenuData In builtMenu
menuData.Children.AddRange(GetChildren(menuData))
Next

Then I am presented with a Object reference not set to an instance of an object error on menuData.Children.AddRange(GetChildren(menuData))

Length Checking In VBA With Null?

Jan 7, 2011

I have some code that is meant to check the length of the values in the text boxes, and if any of the boxes has no content the length of the string is 0 (or null). Here is the code:

If (Len(Form_MainScreen.Ctl48.Value) Or Len(Form_MainScreen.Ctl49.Value) Or _
Len(Form_MainScreen.Ctl50.Value) Or Len(Form_MainScreen.Ctl51.Value) Or _

[code]....

When one string is blank, the length check becomes "null" and so does the whole statement.But if the length checks are all not null, the if statement becomes a "1" and then procedes to execute the Do X procedure again.

VS 2010 Null And Zero Length Strings?

Mar 14, 2011

This is related to my last question.Even though Access considers Nulls and zero-length strings (ZLS) separate values, often developers wish to treat them as equivalent for the sake of an If...Then statement or some other stretch of code. One way to accomplish this is to write code like this:

' Not so efficient
If IsNull(varAge) or varAge = "" Then
' do something

Passing Null Object() ByRef Returns Initialized Object()?

The end result is the variable should remain null after the method call, but it is returning initialized for some reason.

C# - Ensure That A String Property Is Of A Particular Length?

Sep 2, 2010

I've created some classes that will be used to provide data to stored procedures in my database. The varchar parameters in the stored procs have length specifications (e.g. varchar(6) and I'd like to validate the length of all string properties before passing them on to the stored procedures.

Is there a simple, declarative way to do this?

I have two conceptual ideas so far:

Attributes
public class MyDataClass
{
[MaxStringLength = 50]

[Code]....

This seems like a lot of work and will really make my currently-simple classes look pretty ugly, but I suppose it will get the job done. It will also take a lot of copying and pasting to get this right.

Reflection - Find From A Property Info Object If That Property Has A Non Public (Private / Protected) Setter?

I tried, in a exception handling block, where I did a GetValue of the PropertyInfo object and then called SetValue by setting the same value back... but to my surprise it worked well and didn error out.

Error : Unable To Cast Object Of Type 'Object' To 'CTest'

Feb 22, 2012

I have

Public stack() As CTest

I want

Public stack() As Object

The latter is giving the error "Unable to cast object of type 'Object' to 'CTest'." when used:

Dim thestack As CTest() = testdatabase.getStack
Where testdatabase.getStack simply returns stack();
Public Function getStack() As Object()
Return stack
End Function

This fixes it, but it's not ideal (for me personally):

Dim thestack As Object() = testdatabase.getStack

So if I could keep the variable as-is (Public stack() As Object) and then do something along the lines of class.stack() = CTest I should be able to do Dim thestack As CTest() = testdatabase.getStack because the object array will programmatically have changed from Object to CTest.

Given Object:

I would like to do something like:

Private Sub XPropertyChanged() Handles Y.X.PropertyChanged

Right now I need to create a object that equals the object inside that object and then handle this variable pointers property changed, but that is just annoying.

If Not Me.Child.Equals(Nothing) Then ...
If Me.Child.Equals(value) Then ...

Both gives an error. What should I do to pass these lines? Also in C# it would look like this:

if(this.Child != null) ...
if (this.Child != value) ...

But this time it doesn't give an error.

Unable To Find Assembly A_class, Version 2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null?

Mar 13, 2012

I am trying to upgrade a project from VS2005. It is a VB.NET project B that depends on a C# project that references a C++ dll, A.dll. I am getting an error saying 'Unable to find assembly A_class, Version 2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null'. The targeted platform of the C++ project is 4.0 and since that project depends on others, I can't downgrade it. But I did set the platform for the VB.NET project to 4.0. What else does the Version 2.0.0.0 refer to ? I have tried to create a brand-new project and added the vb forms into it after I have built it successfully. The C++ dll is in the output directory, if the VB project doesn't find it there, it doesn't get to this point. During build. I either get no error (but forms don't load) or I get 2 errors (one for each form):
