C# - Copy A File From A Computer That Requires Authentication To Local Machine?
Jul 7, 2010
When I use:
File.Copy(strRemoteFolder, strLocalFolder)
I get an UnauthorizedAccessException with the following message: "Access to the path ... is denied."In .NET, how do I copy a file from a remote computer that requires authentication to my local machine? I understand that I'm going to need to supply a username and password in some fashion, but I don't know how to supply that information via an API in .NET.

I have a text file on a website that I have the direct URL address to. For example, http://www.example.com/thisFile.txt .
I would like to copy it to a predefined path on the local machine. For example, C:Documents and SettingsAll Users .
What can I use to copy the file from the URL to the predefined path on the local machine. A simple CopyFile doesn't seem to handle URL addresses.

We have an app that tracks .DOC and .PDF files (and possibly other file extensions). It stores copies of them on a network share. I want to give the ability to the user to allow them to click the file in a listview, for example, and have that file open in WORD or ADOBE or whatever program is associated with that file type.

Our company is developing software projects that use a users windows username/password for program authentication. Our programs encrypt the username /password, send them to a web service. The web service decrypts the username/password and authenticates the user against our LDAP using the System.DirectoryServices namespace. This works well. There are two methods, one that validates the user and passes back the user's LDAP info in a datatable, the other passes back a boolean that indicates the user is on the domain. This is working just fine. Over the 4th of July weekend, our domain server hung. While it slowed down the login process for windows while it re-routed to a secondary domain server across the country, all our programs could not validate the users because our local domain controller was down.So I have been asked to update the web services to include a list of domain controllers that can be used if the local one is not available. Below is a snippet of code I use to validate a user:

The getinfo function uses the directory services to create an LDAP entry, then do a search based on the account name (windows username) and populates properties for common LDAP information. How can I extend this function, or re-write it, to run down a list of domain controllers found on the network to validate a username? I was thinking of putting the domain in a database, but that requires administration as they change. Is there a way to cycle through the local domain controllers listed on the machine?

Similar to the CSV file which can be downloaded from [url] . How can I downloada file which requires authentication? I can simply use My.Computer.Network.DownloadFile[url] To download the file which is available in public. I tried setting the username and password as per the MSDN documentation but all I get is the HTML content of the login page.

I am generating PDF file using Crystal report ExportToDisk method in VB.NET 3.5.
Locally and on integration environment generated PDF file is much readable i.e.font size is good. But the PDF file generated on production environment is different in formatting. The lines are wrapping and font size is also little small. There is not Adobe installed on integration.

I am developing an Application in VB.Net 2.0. I have a module which would copy files from the Local Machine to a shared folder on remote machine. This shared folder on the remote machine is an authenticated folder. So, after searching on the Internet I found the following piece of code.[code]Another point to note is that when I connect to the File Share using Windows Explorer and then try to execute the application, it works properly.I am not sure why I am getting the error when I do not connect to the Shared Folder using Windows Explorer.Do I have to set some property so that the Credentials passed in the authentication are used.I also checked some posts that suggested setting up Mapped Drive to the Shared Folder on the Local machine and then to copy the file using IO.File.Copy function. However, I cannot use this as this Remote Folder should be only accessed through the application and not in any other case by the User. The users will not even have the credentials to this remote Server as it will be configured by the admin. So, Is there any way in which I can set this up and transfer the files from local machine to a remote shared folder?

I want to copy a file from a UNC path (ex: \comnamedirnamefilename.txt) to a local destination (c:outputdir)
I have no compile errors, but when I run it, it throws an exception (System.IO.DirectoryNotFoundException). I'm absolutely sure the destination existst (it's referencing the destination directory). I've tried doing it with system.io.file.copy(source,dest)and my.computer.filesystem.copyfile(source,dest). Same result either way.

I have a program that must copy a file to 3 locations, the local hard disk, a USB drive, and a network location. I have the file (about 70mb) loaded into a byte array. My quesion is, since I'm not actively modifying the byte array, can I impliment a form of multithreading where all 3 threads read the same byte array at the same time?

I'm creating a WPF application in VB.NET with the 3.5 Framework. (If you provide an example in C#, that's perfectly fine.)
In my project I have a Template for an MS Access database. My desired behavior is that when the users clicks File-->New, they can create a new copy of this template, give it a filename, and save it to their local directory.
The database already has the tables and some starting data needed to interface with my application (a user-friendly data editor)
I'm thinking the approach is to include this "template.accdb" file as a resource in the project, and write it to a file somehow at runtime?

I'm trying to copy a file to a remote computer using the IO.File.Copy method. When I attempt to copy the file, the method throws an UnauthorizedAccessException exception, which is understandable because I am not able to supply logon credentials. My question is: I have the logon credentials (Computer name, username, password) so how can I copy the file to the remote system without resorting to an overkill API call (namely WNetUseConnection)?

How can I search the local disk for a file type and copy the full path to a new location. I am trying to write a backup program that will copy all pst files to the server while maitaining the structure, so if there is a pst located in "C:pstuserpersonal1.pst" it would create the folder "\serverpstuserpersonal1.pst" and copy the file to the correct location. I would need it to do this for each pst on the hard drive no matter the location. The user running the program will not have admin rights, so it will need to skip files it cannot access.

IIS7 running on Windows Server 2008 R2. Development environment is VWDE 2010.
I'm setting up a simple "machine status" page to monitor a server. I want to display the Drives on the machine, including mapped network drives and show their free space, etc.
I'm using System.IO.DriveInfo.GetDrives() to return a collection of DriveInfo objects. I then itterate that collection to display the relevant information.
The issue I'm having is that only local drives appear. (A:, C: and D:) No mapped drives "Network Locations" appear in the collection.
I'm thinking it has to do with the user account that's executing the code (if that makes any sense). So if the code is executing under the user "ASPNET" (or whatever it is) the drives would have to be mapped under that user. As it happens, I have the server set up like a workstation and it logs in automatically under the user with the mapped drives.
What I've done:
- I have set the Web Site's Anonymous Authentication user to that same user
- I have set the Identity of the Application Pool to which my web site is assigned to be that same user.
