code snippet that would allow a progress bar to track the input of a text file? Normally I would not bother with this, but the text files are > 10,000 lines long, which is noticable even on a fast machine. The number of lines is variable, so I would assume that one would not use a fixed value to calculate when the progress bar goes 100%.
My problem is when i try to call Application.Run() in a application without a form i get "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." when i run it outside VS. but if ran in debug or release mode it works just fine. i may just be forgetting to setup application right, but ive done it before in this same manor and it worked fine.
Commented out init_timer and init_ready, and now it causes the same error for the myName line. there seems to be something wrong with class Application. btw theres seems to be something wrong with the forum code formatting.

Is it possible to read a string and call the method of the same name?For example: I have many buttons and if the user presses the button named A1, I want the Sub AI() to be called. I know it's possible to read from database and generate them onto listbox but how about listview using call function. here's a sample of what how a listbox is able to read from a database and generate them on the listbox.the listbox is reading from database, how does one make it to read from an active listview.

i make the vb homework first, connect the mdb file, then login. In the mdb file, there have login account and password.when i run the program, it have some problem:"dataAdapter.Fill(dt)" highlighted, The 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0xxxxxxx.mdb' provider is not registered on the local machine.
When I run my application the following code prompts an error. Ideally, I want to populate the TxtOracleNo with a value read from another table on my form based on certain conditions i.e., prac_no, prac_eid and pay_method is the same in both tables then populate the Oracle No on TxtOracleNo text box.

I am trying to 1) write code in VB2010 that will get a JPG image from a Access Database field and write the image to a PictureBox 2) write code which will write a JPG file to an Access Database field. I have already sucessfully coded this in VB6, without fully understanding what I was doing.

I have an error that is during the query to a database ExecuteReader 'phase' of my program, i am assigning an .OleDbDataReader to a variable RetVal and then, i am giving this RetVal = Query.ExecuteReader, and then in the while the query is being read loop(While RetVal.Read) i am getting an error in runtime that is "Invalid attempt to call Read when reader is closed." I know this means i have to open the reader, but i don't know how to do this, as i have been using this process for a few weeks and haven't had this error pop up. i need to read binary file and in this file found the string and replace it with other one and save the file afterwords. I found many example to read binary, but to find and replace is for me mistery.

I have a fairly simple XML file that I just want to read the data from.

I can compile it without errors. there's an error message if I start the dll with Rundll32.exe and add any parameter. Then the program starts, but the error message is still there. It says something as "Error in browser.dll. Missing Content v" if I start it with "Rundll32.exe browser.dll v". If I leave out the parameter "v", nothing happens. Neither an error appears nor the actual application.
I have is as follows: Usually I start the *.exe-File with parameters such as a URL [URL]. How can I add such URLs to the *.dll-file? The same trick as for usual program (e.g., args = Environment.GetCommandLineArgs())? How can I access them and take them forward to the actual *.exe-file then?
lets say I have a form (form1) with lables a-z which are all designed with default text "0". So they all show 0 on program startup. which is fine. I also have a dialog with 2 TextBoxes; I want my program to update the default text/value on (only)form1 labels x, y and z to whatever was put into the textboxes when i press the OK button on the Dialog, so these specified labels show the 'new' value on next startup. Is it even possible or should I save the values to a file which loads the values in the specified labels on startup?
