Mar 29, 2012I am looking for some design "best practice" or heuristic to address performance issues on a webpage.Basically, there are dropdown menus with up to 10,000 choices and each is in an tag. So I have many thousands of extra nodes in the DOM model. I think this is slowing down the javascripts that parse the document after it loads, but also it is slowing down the initial page load to get out all that data.I would like to lift those drop downs off the page entirely, so instead of combobox style controls, it will have a link to a modal popup which will contain the picklist. I think preloading and caching these popups on the client will prevent the slowness of loading the initial page, and get all those 10,000s of off the DOM so that the existing script performance will improve.
With my limited experience in web development, I am not sure if the best thing is to create some sort of page/control/service/etc for the initial approach.Once I am confident I am using the correct approach, I should be able to work out the details.

I have tried using the CreateCaret and ShowCaret API calls, but they only seem to work with normal text boxes. Is there any way to modify them so they work with RichTextBoxes?
Comboboxes Clear Out The Info When Selecting A Different Option?
Jun 5, 2011I am creating a program that make a person select different options and in other boxes it will populate the choice the person makes. Example is the program is fora car wash and if you choose standard or deluxe it will show in the other boxes what comes with that package.I got the program to work except when going to select a different option it still keeps the old info and displays the new info as well. I tried like at the bottom of the procedure Exteriorlist.Items.clear() and it would clear and never display the info. I am still working on the project I am trying to get the print option working properly I am just needing help in figuring out how to clear the info when I select a different package.

The paragraph is a dynamic data, hence the no. of words keep on changing. Now my question is that, I want to select a para from the cluster, copy it and paste it into rtf2.

Actually the contents of Rtf1 is in the .txt format. But I knew only
My.Computer.FileSystem.ReadAllText("xyx.txt")
so, if i can select the para in the .txt file before reading it into rtf1, it will be more useful.

.net - Reverse Selecting Text Programmatically In A Richtextbox?
Mar 21, 2009I have a form with a richtextbox and a scrollbar. I want to be able to keep appending text to the textbox without loosing my selection. I can save the selectionstart and selectionlength before I append the text and set it back and it works. The problem is when it comes to reverse selecting. The best I could do is set back the selectionstart at the right position but I have to move the mouse so it selects text again. I'm using the following functions before and after I append the text:

Sep 24, 2011i have a simple notepad application where i want a feature of selecting text which is underlined. Usually what happens is when i click a button the app reads a text file and underlines random text in the richtextbox. What i want is on the click of another button to select the text which is underlined. I thought of creating char range, regex all but not getting anywhere. I also dunno how to build a regex.
What i know is since all RTF texts are different we can choose the rtf text instead of simple text to select the underlined text. The rtf of underlined text in my application is this uli0 so manyulnonei where ul and ulnone mark the text as underlined. Now i want to select all such texts which are surrounded by uli0 and ulnonei . I thought of the following method :
1) Create another richtextbox2
2) Paste the text of richtextbox1 as rtf in richtextbox2. I mean show the text in coded rtf (like above) instead of normal rtf.
3) Use simple find to select all the text which is surrounded by ul and ulnone tags
4) process the text.
But this step is very tedious. If anyone could help me in making a simple procedure or build a regex which could process the text surrounded by those tags,

May 15, 2009The problem I have is I have made a program which you select a value from a combobox and it changes the value of a url for a picturebox and thus changes the picture, I also have a button which randomizes all of the comboboxes so I will get something unique, but every time the program loads, and I hit random, it chooses the same numbers in order. If you need an example, when I press random the first time I get the number 7 for my first combobox, so the selected index=7, every time I load the program and press random it picks 7 for that combobox.

Aug 1, 2011I got a Combobox with some items (item1-item7) to select and 54ish Buttons(sButton1-sButton54). Also an array(53) called Buttons. The array is filled with the items to select, like: Buttons(0) = "item 1, item 2" Everytime another item in the Combobox is selected, I'd like only some of the Buttons to change their Image. Therefore I got the array. If Item 1 is selected and Buttons(0) contains the item1 I'd like to change the Button1's image.edit: It works with changing the image of every Button:

But I'd prefer to change all in one go (Loop) instead.

Dropdown ComboBox With Predictive Text Option
Jul 21, 2010I have a combobox and have 10 items in it (Name of countries). I want to make the users life easy so that when they click inside the combobox and start writing then the text box will start predicting the rest of the text in the combo box. i.e. if i start writing "U" then the textbox will start predicting "UK" as "UK" is already a pre-populated item in the combobox.
How can I restrict the user from selecting only values within the pre-populated items of the combobox. Bearing in mind the combobox allows the user to write inside it (for the benefit of predictive text). But lets say there are values of UK, USA then I dont want the combobox to accept the value of "Ukraine" when the user clicks away from the combobox.
