Cant Move Objects With Arrowkeys When Buttons Are Present?
Apr 14, 2009I am extremely new to VB but i have most of the basics down fairly well. I can create buttons and move objects with arrow keys, for example. I am using VB Express Edition 2008. What I am trying to do is make a very basic game. So far it was going great until a little problem stumped me [see title to see where i am going with this]. Before i added buttons onto the form i was able to move my little circle man with the arrow keys up, down, left and right. When i added buttons it no longer allowed me to do such things. Now moving the arrow keys only allows me to select buttons without the mouse. It is really frustrating because i have been working very hard on this and a problem this small could ruin everything! ;)
I was wondering if there is a way to move objects with arrow keys and use buttons on the same form and if so, how do you do it?
Design - Pass User Details Between Objects?
Aug 16, 2010I'm redesigning an old VB6 application into VB.net and there is one thing I'm not sure on the best way to do. In the VB6 application whenever we created a new instance of a component, we would pass in the user details (user name and the like) so we new who was performing the tasks. However, no that I'm redesigning I've created some nice class designs, but I'm having to add in user details into every class and it just looks wrong.
Is there a VB.net way of doing this so my classes can just have class specific details? Some way so that if my classes need to know who is performing a task, they can get the information themselves, rather than having it passed in whenever the objects are created?
Handle Events For Objects NOT Created In The Design Tab?

And with these lines in the Form_Load module:

I have been successful in creating the array, positioning each and entering the images for all 104 PictureBoxes, but now I want to add code for the event "MouseDown.I copied the code for this event from my VB3 program and VB10 automatically updated the list of parameters, but nothing has linked the objects (Card) to the code.
I have tried to append "Handles Card.MouseDown" as well as several variations with brackets to indicate that it is an array.Auto-complete doesn't include "Card" as an option, and of course, since the array was never an object added to the form design, I can't create the empty module from there.
Binding At Design-Time To WPF Labels, Buttons, Etc?
Jan 27, 2011We're developing a WPF & MVVM application that requires multi-language support. On each control with static text, we're using a converter to do a lookup for the appropriate word for the user's language.
However, this means that each control does not display any text. This causes some irritation for the UI developers at design-time. Is there any way to display design-time text?
For example:

How can I make this converter execute at design time to display the translated converter parameter?
Design A Form And Add Buttons - Download Bank Statements ?
Feb 24, 2010I have an awful lot of it "down" by now, in that I understand how to design a form and add buttons, how to set properties and am even learning "procedures and parameters". But I think I'm missing something, and it's probably my own fault as I jump around the book (I'm about 1/2 way through the 500 page volume, and have completed chapters from the beginning and middle) I think I understand the "Visual" part, and I think I even understand enough of the "Basic" part to get going.
I want to write a simple program to take our downloaded bank statements (what better time to do this than tax time and sort them out. They are .pdfs so I need to first copy the text and sort of "break it apart" and add tabs etc so I can import to a database (I've been playing around a lot with databases too, and have a good grasp on that part of the equation) I have been reading (in the book) about reading text files with StreamReader, and Replacing Text Within a String, etc. how to "get going..." how to even start writing a program. Do I start with a form? Do I need to create a Visual interface to run the Basic?
Are there existing examples somewhere I could "get my feet wet" working with that already have simple find/replace functions? It's almost as if I know too much about the more complex stuff like "Denoting Scope Using Variable Prefixes", but not how to write a simple program. I'm adding to this -- as I think about it, the main "Project" used throughout the book is a Picture Viewer. I think it if had been a "data replacer" or something like that, I wouldn't be asking this question! I don't want to open a picture, I want to manipulate a text file.

Dec 3, 2009I cannot move objects (such as buttons, listboxes, etc) in the Windows Forms Designer by clicking and dragging them with my mouse. This gets really annoying after a while. However, I can move them with the key pad (up down left right) and by changing the location property. Does anyone know what is going on?

Mar 3, 2012I have a piece of software with two tabs, inside each tab there are buttons (the user can add the buttons when they want). when tab1 is full tab2 should start to fill. I currently know how many buttons fit on the screen so I just say something like if buttons > 150 then start to populate tab 2 The problem i have now though is if the resolution is changed then a different amount of buttons can be displayed. so if I put my screen to 1280x720 some buttons are left of. I was thinking of detecting the resolution and then using different cases for different resolutions but this seems very inefficient im wondering if there is a different way?
