View 3 RepliesI have 2 button controls. When I click one i'm trying to determine which one caused a postback in the page load. How to do determine this?
View 3 RepliesI have a main form and a user control. I can capture raised events fine in the user control from another class. I have tried the same from my MainForm to raise an event that my user control can handle.
View 13 RepliesI have several UserControls in an ASP:Repeater. They are 'Add to basket' User Controls with a text input for quantity and a button to add the item to the basket.
My problem is the value is being reset to 1 whenever I enter a value into the quantity text box. I think this is happening because the containing page reinitialised the repeater (which holds the UserControls) and the quantity is one again before the UserControl's click event is fired.
how to capture the value in the textbox before the Postback occurs, I am happy to stick this data in a session for now.
I am thinking I need something along the lines of PreLoad? But that didn't work for me
I've been working on a project for a class for the last few days. Here is my current issue, I have created a form where I have multiple buttons representing different t-shirt with different prices. So hypothetically, if the end user were to click on the button that is assigned to red size small there would be an extra $2.00 (on top of the $5 fee of any other t-shirt), I know how to code for the calculation of one item, but I'm not certain how to add say a small red shirt, and a large pink shirt, and have the two items calculate correctly.
View 4 RepliesI have created a simple custom control - we will call it a "panel with buttons". Here is how I instantiate it:
[Code]....
So what I wind up with are multiple instances of my panel. Each of these panels has a button on it called Button1.
My question is - how do I capture this button event in a way that I will know which panel index it came from?
In the custom control there is only the Button1_click event - and when I click on it in any of the multiple panels I manually instantiated the event does occur, but how I can tell which one of my instantiated buttons were clicked...
Within my webpage I am loading usercontrols within a placeholder. Each of these user controls triggers a postback when an ajaxcontroltoolkit rating is changed. The problem I am having is that if I use [code]The Load_EvaluationList is what loads the user controls, if I place the IsPostBack check around those two, the controls disappear, what could be the problem
View 3 RepliesLet's say we have a composite web control with a combobox and a textbox. Is it possible to build into the control functionality such that when the text in the textbox changes, it posts back and adds the value as an option in the combobox?
I know that I could add an "onchange" handler to the textbox and make something work with Javascript, but that's not really what I'm looking to do. Is there a way to just put like:
CODE:
In the web control code and it connect to the TextChanged event of the textbox?
How do you get a specific nested control of dynamically created controls (i.e. the child of a dynamic control)? The FindControl() method does not work because it only deals with TopLevel dynamic controls I believe.
View 2 RepliesWhen I click a cell or a row in a datagridview I want to be able to open a new form with several textboxes and comboboxes in it and to be able to edit the selected row. The only thing I managed to do so far, was to fill a texbox from the form with the info from the sellected cell using the following code.

I have eight NumericUpDown controls in my form, I call them NumericUpDown_1 thru NumericUpdown 8. I first noticed when I set a breakpoint in say NumericUpDown_1 routine and have code inside this routine to manipulate say NumericUpdown_6's value, the code would immediate jump to NumericUpdown_6 routine because the value changed. This makes sense since the handler fires due to the default handler - numericUpDown_valuechanges. But I do not want this to happen so I removed the handlers for all NumericUpdownX routines, one thru eight and instead I use "addhandler" and "removehandler" statements inside the individual routines to "mask off" this problem every time I change a numericUpDown.Value that is not in it's own routine.
My problem is this does not work. What I found is if I use removehandler numericUPDown_x.valuechange addressof numericUpdown_valuechange statement the coding would work however when I'm done in that routine I follow up with addhandler numericUpDown... statement and I'm back to the same problem. A different numericUpDown routine will fire because I changed it's value in another routine but I had the handler removed before I changed it's value so I don't understand. It's almost like it remembered that it's value changed as soon as I turned back on the handler using addhandler. I'm working with Visual Basic 2010.
I'm trying to iterate through a group of ComboBoxes and set a property using a concatenated string & variable to represent the name of the control. However, I can't get the instance of the form to recognize the (String & Integer_Variable) as one of its controls -- and so it doesn't recognize any of the appropriate properties or subroutines as members of the System.Windows.Forms.Control.Is there a cleaner way to do this?
For myTempCount = 1 To 6
If tempValue < Me.("ComboBox" & myTempCount).Items.Count Then
ComboBox.SelectedIndex = tempValue 'appears to work -- how?[code].....
This code was originally VBA / VB6, which I put through ArtinSoft's Visual Basic Upgrade Companion (VBUC). FWIW, I'm using Microsoft Visual Basic 2010 Express.
Im currently working on a project using VS2008. One of the features of this applications is to enable the user to change the theme either buy selecting preset ones or defining there own. The themes used in this application are not the default windows ones. I basically created my own window, titlebar etc... with the use of panels and removed teh windows form borders. So its basically coloring the controls on the form. At the moment the theme information is stored in a "txt" file and when the application loads, it applies the theme to the current form. However, there is more than 1 form within this application. I dont want to write many lines of code to apply certain design/appearance properties to every control in the form. So is there a way to apply settings to a group of controls?
EG: Make all textboxes BackColor Blue
My application also has widgets. All widgets are panels with their names prefixed as "Pnl_WIDGET". Is there also a way to set propeties to all panles with the name beginning with "Pnl_WIDGET"?
How would I go about doing multiple layers on a form?Say the first layer contains a command button that when its click, it changes to the second layer hiding the command button and showing the controls on the second layer?
View 6 RepliesStill using VS 2005. My concept is to use the same form space to display different "pages", like a "wizard" where you click the [Next] button, and the current UI disappears and a new UI appears. I want to "turn off" multiple controls and "turn on" multiple other controls. Example code: -
Private Sub
Button4_Click(ByVal
sender

At design time in the IDE, you can ctrl-click or drag a box around multiple controls on a form and move them all at once. How do you do that at runtime. I need to be able to create image maps based on textual copies of medical claim forms that are generated from different systems and the ability to create dynamic label controls and move a single or multiple controls and resize is required. How does MS do this in the IDE?
View 7 RepliesI have a form that I will be using to keep track of data for computers I build and will eventually link into a database for configuration management, but for right now I'm just trying to get the basic form layout done and functional. I need this for to be customized for each job I do, that means I can have multiple computers, PC card, peripheral equipment, etc. So with that said basically what I have done is created a user control for each separate item that I want to add (i.e. computer, PC card, etc) that has all the fields and functions I require. When I want to add another computer I just add a tab and place my "computer" user control on it, no big deal...
My issue is when I want to add my "PC card" user control to that "computer" user control. What I am trying to do is to add the first user control(PC Card Info) I created under a button called "Add New PC Card" (which is part of the "computer" user control.)and that part works! What I want to do is keep added as many "pc card"user controls as I need and basically keep appending them under the last control on the bottom of the page (which is the "pc card" user control, that is a groupbox with a few drop down boxes and text boxes in it.)with a little spacing between them. The biggest problem I am having is when I add the first "PC Card" user control, it works.. but when I try to add another one and search the current page for all user controls under a certain point or with a specific name, I don't get any results.
I think I'm on the right track with the following code but I am running into 2 things I can't do that are critical to my needs. 1: I need to define the text of the user control I just added so I can uniquely identify it, so If I need to remove it I can and will also play a role later( I thought if there was some way in code to make my control # a variable that may work) 2: I need to know what to look for since I have a count that represents how many of that particular control exist on my form, that way I can name them properly, this will also allow me a method to delete the user control if desired.
Dim pccard As New PC_Card
Dim x As Integer
Dim name As String

I have a program that uses two forms. The program opens to the Main form, and the user can navigate to the other form from the Main form through use of a button. Here's the way I've currently written it: When the Main form loads, it declares and instantiates the other form during the load procedure. When the user presses a button, the second form is displayed by means of the ShowDialog method. On the second form, there is a Return to Main Screen button which closes the second form, bringing the user back to the Main form.
So, here's the structure of the code:
Code:
Public Class frmMainForm
Dim frmSecondForm As New SecondForm
Private Sub btnSecondForm_Click(blah, blah, blah) Handles blah, blah, blah
[CODE]...
Here's my reasoning: Originally, I wrote the code so that a new instance of the second form was created every time the button was pressed. The problem was that whatever data was displayed on the second form, previously, was lost when the user returned to it a second time. Since the user would be switching back and forth between these forms, frequently, I needed that data to persist.
What is the best practice for accomplishing this:
1) Declare and instantiate the second form on program start, as I have done, and use the button simply to show the form?
2) Declare and instantiate the second form each time the button is pressed but maintain the variables on the Main form and pass them ByRef to a custom constructor for the second form? Is this even possible?
3) Something else?
i am working on vb.net.When i click a button in one of the row in the gridview, i am called a function to delete the data of tha row. it is working but it is getting postback.i have placed gridview inside asp updatepanel. How to prevent postback.

I am using asp.net.I have taken one Hidden value and assigning value to that hidden variable in Java-script.
aspx: <input type="hidden" runat="server" id="hdnProductionIds" value="0" name="hdnProductionIds" />
JS:document.getElementById("ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_hdnProductionIds").value = "123";
I want to use that hidden value in server side coding(vb.net). But while do-post back, hidden variable value becomes Zero (default value)
I am using a GridView with its first column as a template field with radio buttons.
I need to make the first radio button in the first row of the grid remain default selected during page load / postback.
I have a module that handles adding controls and populating values on a form. One of the controls is a button (there can be many) which acts as a lookup. For some reason, when I click the Button, it winds up in the btnLookup_Click event and displays the various messages, but it does not update the label (labLookup) text on the form. Am I missing something?

I have a picturebox with controls on it. I wanna save it as a pic with controls. I have seen a getimageofcontrol() func. on vbforums earlier that does exactly this. But I am not able to find it now...

There is newer code in a follow up post. I suggest using the code in the later post rather than the code in this one. You can still read this post though. When designing a user interface, one should be conscious of how many individual controls are required to implement the functionality. In some cases an initial design may begin with many buttons or textboxes (for example) but then further review of
the actual required functionality allows for a reduction in the number of unique controls.
But other times, there isn't a better way (which will still make sense to the user of the application) then to have a series of many repeated controls. So in the cases where one can be certain that the best UI implementation for an application will require the use of multiple copies of a given control, then it often becomes necessary to maintain some method of managing all of those controls at various points
throughout the application. Doing so typically requires that one build up some collection of controls which can then be accessed by index in order to work with any given control; but this can lead to a lot of clutter in the code file which handles these control's events. For instance there will be some kind of collection declaration, some recursive routine to find all of the controls of interest, and then any number of event handler methods with long lists of Handles clauses, or additional code loops to wire up the event handling for each control.
Purpose Since most of this functionality could be considered a requirement regardless of the type of control being managed, or its required functionality, it may make sense to wrap all of the control management functionality into a single class. And since our first requirement is a collection of controls, then a base collection class could be the perfect starting point for our control manager. There are a number of existing thread around this topic, with some recent (at the time of this writing) ones being:[URL]..In this, and related, threads I have posted examples of a simple TextBoxManager and ButtonManager control. But again, with so much similar functionality required regardless of the control being managed, it would be technically possible to create a generic ControlManager(Of T As Control) class which can manage any type of control.
[Code]...
So in summary, one can facilitate managing a large number of user interface controls by building a "control manager" class which both encapsulates the list of control instances, and deals with adding and removing defined event handlers for every control it manages. The generic control manager class itself can be inherited and extended into a more specific class on a per-application basis in order to provide more application-specific functionality. I am making an application that uses multiple WebBrowser controls, and multiple proxies. The code for changing the proxy settings are as such:
#Region "Proxy"
Public Structure Struct_INTERNET_PROXY_INFO
Public dwAccessType As Integer
Public proxy As IntPtr
[code]....
Note: getRandomProxy gets a random proxy from a list.Problem is that whenever RefreshIESettings(getRandomProxy()) is applied, the proxy will be applied to all of the WebBrowsers, while i would need to have a unique proxy for each WebBrowser. Not having this would just error out the page in the other browsers and so on.
I have a datagridview on a form. I have the .selectionmode set to FullRowSelect.
I use the datagridview.select to put the focus on the form. Pressing up/down arrows they navigate through the results.
How do I capture the enter button being pressed on the current row they have highlighted?
What I will do is take the ID field of that row, I just need to know how to capture the enter button being pressed in that datagridview.
The image below shows a part of my Login form . The program works fine and I am able to login when I press the Enter Button. But I want to Login when I press My Enter Button (Return Button) on my Keyboard. How can I do this ?
