I am trying to change an objects location programmatically. I have the line: Trackbar1.Location.Y=100 but recieve the error: Expression is a value and therfore cannot be the target of an assignment. Does anyone know how to get around this?

View 9 RepliesI've created managed code to programmatically provision websites on Windows 2008 servers from a Vista 64-bit workstation.The provisioning covers creating DNS entries, creating a file structure and a the IIS7 site (using Microsoft.Web.Administration aka MWA).I've had to do some DCOM configuration to get it to work through a firewall and it all works on the test server provided I'm in the same domain.I then cloned the Windows Server 2008 Virtual Machine (VM) that the provisioning does work on and then changed the clone's domain to the child domain in the forest where the production servers are sitting.The provisioning user credentials are synchronised on the parent and child domains.So the only change is moving domains and there is an automatically configured trust relationship between the domains.
Provisioning the file system still works on the server on the child domain, but managing DNS and IIS7 now have access issues.I've tried impersonating the Administrator on the child domain (and the thread identity is showing that works) and also had a go with CoInitializeSecurity (though I'm not sure that is appropriate for Win2008 and Vista)to no avail.What I really want to avoid is the need to have to store credentials separately on the workstation - it brings an unwelcome maintenance overhead and the possibility that if the provisioning user's password is changed, then the provisioning will unexpectedly fail on the production servers.Ideally once the provisioning user has logged onto the Vista Workstation, I'd like their credentials to pass through to the servers on the child domains (there are separate DNS and web servers) allowing them to manipulate whatever services (DNS, IIS7, file system) that are necessary.The solutions would seem to be something programmatic (whatever replaced CoInitializeSecurity?) or a Group Policy setting on the child domain may need altering to allow access.However being a humble software developer working out which of the myriad settings (one of the User Rights Assignments perhaps?) is outside my sphere of knowledge.The third alternative is to use Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) but I haven't done much with this yet and what I have indicates that this technology has its own security issues to accommodate.
I work with VB.NET 2005 and I want to set the application EXE name according to a certain condition. For example:
I have a variable its name Version
If Version = 1 EXE name will be CarsApp
Else If Version = 2 EXE name will be BuildingApp

View 4 RepliesIn form frmAddPlayers I declare and create an array of pictureboxes in the Load event using the code:

In the watch window the value of the pictureboxes is System.Windows.Forms.PictureBox. Later in the load event I start a background worker in form sfrmUSBDevice using the code:
sfrmUSBDevice.sReadWriteThread.RunWorkerAsync()
The background worker waits for user input and then calls a subroutine from form frmAddPlayers. The subroutine changes the image in the picturebox to indicate that the user input has taken place. However when the debugger returns from sfrmUSBDevice to frmAddPlayers the watch window shows that all of the pictureboxes have a value of nothing. Then when I try to change the image of the picturebox I get an "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" exception. It seems like when the debugger goes to the sfrmUSBDevice form and comes back to frmAddPlayers the objects on frmAddPlayers have lost their information.
I'm developing a program at the moment and I'm trying to add the capability to add a texbox everytime you click a button. This is simple other than I'm trying to be efficiant as possible, so I made a sub that creates the textbox and the button calls the sub. Here is where it gets tricky I want the new textbox to move just below the previouse textbox, I'm not sure how to do this since Im only really createing one textbox over and over and having a variable name it by one. This souds confusing I know, but check out my code and it will make since. Really all I'm trying to do is change the location of a unknown textbox say since I create a textbox name textbox0 then when I hit the button again my varibale goes up by 1 which makes the new textbox, textbox1. how to I tell VB to change textbox1's location....

All variables and Arrays have been declared properly the problem Is when the user enters a new number using a scroll bar

View 7 RepliesCurrently my program randomly removes words from a set of text and inserts textboxes below the text. The user can then enter his/her answers in the new textboxes. What I would like to do is set the program so the user can have two choices one being Easy and other being Advanced. Then when the user hits either button it brings up everything that is currently on the form. I'd prefer to do this without having to use MDI forms. I've had a hard time using the MDI forms and therefore would like to avoid using them. They way I was thinking this could work is all objects would remain invisible except for the 2 buttons and then when you hit one of them they disappear and everything else appears.

For example if the aplication runs on a machine with a en-US culture it would be able to take a date from a database in the MM/dd/yyyy format and convert it to a date object and when the same application runs on a en-GB machine it can take that same MM/dd/yyyy date and convert it into a date object without getting a date format exception.

When i build the application, the custom controls automatically change size and location. Anchoring and Dock properties are fine. Anchored to Top Left without dockstyle. Even if i fix the location and size in design mode, after i run the application the controls again change back to weird position.

I have ASP gridview bound to an Entity Data source which works no problem, however when I try to programmatically change a header columns text, it appears to break the styling and will not allow sorting either, below is how I am trapping and changing the Header row column text.

Iam changing the installation directory because when the application is installed in program files, my database can't add and edit record. having an error something like "operation must need an updateable query" because of that error i tried to install the appl in documents and there n error i'd encountered like when I install it to the program files folder.
How to programmatically change foreground color and make bold text in individual cell location on DataGridView control (Visual Basic)?
I use "dgMatrix.Rows(r).Cells(c).Value = x" to assign individual numeric values to individual cells in a DataGridView control. My question; is there a similar way to change foreground color and make bold the text in this cell, by specifying the individual row/column cell location?
For example; for cell (row 3, col 5) in the DataGridView make text in cell say red and bold or blue and bold so as to highlight and distinguish individual cell contents. As needed, I will also need to reset these properties (foreground back to automatic/black and font from bold back to regular); the reset could be done globally to the whole DataGridView as opposed to indiviaually by cell.
We are testing the visual basic 2010 ee in one of the computing suites at a secondary high school. The installation was fine When we tried opening or saving a project it saves it into a default location i.e my documents. The problem withthis is pupils dont have access to c:. They their own drive on the network (h:) where they save their work. When i went and changed the settings in VB in tool > options.
View 3 Replieson my program i have an activation in it and in order to activate the program you need to enter a code that is stored in the settings. so i was looking through my computer and i found the programs config file. and so I opened it and i found all of the codes for the activation. I need to find out how to make the file so the user doesn't have access to it and then how to move it to a more hidden place in the C: drive.

View 2 Repliesi am using an unbound datagridview so i can dynamiclly add rows. all that is working fine. but the grid is not is the location i have coded.. i am using the defualt form as a base then coding the unbound stuff in.. should i just create a blank class file and do everything? the only problem i am having is the grid must bees in the correct location according to the pixel point that i have given it. Right now it is placing the grid at point (0,0) no matter what point is entered on the line for location. so what am i missing??????
