Registry Tweaking And Add Some Preset Values?

Sep 1, 2011

i want to make a program that will 'clean' up a computer, so far i can make it delete temp files, clear history, empty the recycle bin, even startup windows disk defrag... basic stuff like that Now i want it to go into windows registry and add some preset values, for example: HKEY_CURRENT_USER // Control Panel // Desktop // MenuShowDelay is by default 400, but i want to set it to 200 or something...i would also need the program to figure out which OS the computer is running (xp/vista/7) and only use the appropriate key and value,

Sub New() Vs. Form_Load - Value Of ComboBox1.Text Changes Between Sub New() And Form_Load?

Oct 29, 2009

I was under the impression that there was not much difference between Sub New() and Form_Load. However, I found one weird bug...Add a combobox and a label to a form, and the following code:

Public Class Form1

Private mstrOutput As String = ""[code].....

The label text shows that the value of ComboBox1.Text changes between Sub New() and Form_Load.Is this meant to happen?

File I/O And Registry :: .Net 2003 Win App Can't See Local Files

Jan 25, 2012

I'm programming a small windows app that allows the user to fill out some fields and then creates and runs a batch file based on their entries. The program works, but it doesn't.The program creates the batch file just fine but when it tries to run the batch file, it gets errors in the cmd window saying it cannot find the scripts the batch file is trying to call. What's confusing me is that if I take the batch file the program created and run it myself, it works just fine so I know it is not the batch that is the problem. My best guess is that there is some security setting for vs.net that I've overlooked but I am only an "every once in a while" programmer so I really don't know where to look. Additionally after running the batch, the program is supposed to delete the batch file but that fails as well with the message that it cannot find the batch file, the same batch file that it had just created and run.

Windows 7 64bit Cannot Create Local Port Through Registry

Jun 26, 2011

I am writing a vbs to create local port to connect to our printer server (i.e local port for \PrintServerPrintQueue1). I can create the local port succesfully through editing the registry HKLMSoftwareMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionPorts and then restarting the spooler service in Windows 7 32bit. However, the same script cannot create the port in Windows 7 64bit. The registry was also changed but cannot create the local port after restarting spooler service. Does anyone know what difference between 32bit and 64bit Windows when creating the local port?

Formatting Excel - If I Try Using Style.numberformat With The Date And Time Formats, They Don't Change And Are Entered As If Didn't Change The Format?

Mar 11, 2011

I am throwing some data out into Excel and am having some formatting troubles. I have 5 columns (date, time, a long number I don't want displayed in scientific notation - text is fine, text, text). I can get it all working with numberformat, however I have to do them different ways.

Date works this way cell.numberformat = "m/d/yy" and it formats it to say 3/1/11

Time works this way cell.numberformat = "h:mm AM/PM" and it formats it to say 8:07 AM

For the long number cell.numberformat = "@" and it doesn't change the format and it gets displayed in scientific notation

BUT if I use cell.style.numberformat = "@" it works as it should, but it messes up all of the date and time cells. Apparently when you use style.numberformat, it doesn't just apply to the cell you're working with. If I try using style.numberformat with the date and time formats, they don't change and are entered as if I didn't change the format at all.

Check To See If Registry Key Exists

Sep 15, 2006

I am trying to figure out how to check if a registry key exists. If it does, do nothing, if it doesn't, recreate it.I've found numerous resources on the subject, and have made progress, but one little thing is stoping me.[code]The problem is that this reports "Not Found", even though the key 'regkey' exists in the registry. Also, if I remove 'regkey' from the code, it reports "Found". So it does find the subdirectory in the registry. My question is, how do I check to see if the 'regkey' exists? I'm running Windows XP Pro SP2.

I'd rather tell the user that the selected save location is not writeable.
