I have code, shown below, that works all except for 1 thing: The variables being passed byRef get passed, but once modified in the else section of the "if me.invokerequired" code of RecordData, the variables are never updated in the calling function. To reiterate, the calling function does not receive the updated data that is in the variables custid and amt. When debugging, I see the data change in the else section of "if me.invokerequired", but once it returns from the callback the data is missing.[code]
I have a function that will be passed an object that contains MANY variables. These variables all get stored in a database. Later a new object will be passed to my function and most of the time it will be identical. But sometimes one or two variables will be different and I'll have to take various actions based on those changes. Other than looping through every variable and comparing it to every stored version of that variable, how might I do this? Can I some how generate a hash value for an entire object? Since the object will be the same most if the times it is passed to me this would be a quick way to determine that nothing has changed.
I'm trying to compare two variables of type nullable(of boolean) in VB.NET 2010. One of the variables has a value False and the other is Nothing. Now I was expecting the following expression to evaluate to true, but this is not the case:
Dim var1 as nullable(of boolean) = False Dim var2 as nullable(of boolean) var2 = Nothing
[Code].....
Why don't I see my MsgBox? How should I compare two nullables (of boolean)?
I created a SRT program in vb6. works great. I thought it would be a good time to port it over to vb2010 for obvious compatibility issues. the following will not work, even though through debug; all the vars are correct - it just wont come up.
' Timer1.Stop() : MsgBox("start: " & CaptionStart & " end: " & CaptionEnd & " smptime: " & WMPTime) : End If (CaptionStart <= WMPTime) And (WMPTime <= CaptionEnd) Then txtCaption.Text = Caption '// HIGHLIGHT IT IN THE LIST
[code]....
in the above its simpler (why I like vb6) and works perfectly. I am most likely "not seeing the forest for the trees" syndrom.
I am developing an application to my official use. In which I have one combo box for selecting the customerName. When I select the custName from the combobox I want to retrieve data from a particular field of a table and sum it within a selected date value. i.e: When the user selects a custName from the combobox the field within the date value should be summed up and grouped by custName. I think it is possible but I dont know how it is to be done.
I need to open a form 6 times, I have the following
[Code]...
But when I click the button 6 times all the 6 forms open, but when I close one and click in the button to open again (since I only have 5 opened) the compiler says that I need to sure that the object isn't in use before using it again.
Ok, stay with me on this one.I have a bunch of css files with classes defined in them.They are like this:.toolbar{......}.addpage{......}
I have managed to extract the just the classnames with a bit of help from a fellow member.now i have another bunch of .vb, .aspx files which use these css classes in them. they in the form:<id=23441:cssClass="toolbar">Now I have to extract the classnames after the 'cssClass' key word and then compare all the classnames with the previously extracted ones and determine which Classes are not being used.
I have the following example datatable:[code]And now the user should be able to compare multiple periods. In this example the user chose two periods: 1.1.2010 - 31.12.2010 and 1.1.2011 - 31.12.2011. The result of the example should be:[code]
I have 6 array lists and I would like to know which one is the longest without using a bunch of IF STATEMENTS."if arraylist.count > anotherlist.count Then...." <- Anyway to do this other than this?
Examples in VB.net or C#.Net (4.0) would be helpfull.
I have a multiple text files that I need to merge. but I need to compare the reference number before merge it.[code]What will be the fastest way to deal it read line by line to compare. the text file consist of thousand of line
What's a sound approach to override the CompareTo() method in a custom class with multiple approaches to comparing the data contained in the class? I'm attempting to implement IComparable(Of T) just so I have a few of the baseline interfaces implemented. Not planning on doing any sorting yet, but this will save me down the road if I need to.
Reading MSDN states mostly that we have to return 0 if the objects are equal, -1 if obj1 is less than obj2, or 1 is obj1 is greater than obj2. But that's rather simplistic.
Consider an IPv4 address (which is what I'm implementing in my class). There's two main numbers to consider -- the IP address itself, and the CIDR. An IPv4 address by itself is assumed to have a CIDR of /32, so in that case, in a CompareTo method, I can just compare the addresses directly to determine if one is greater or less than the other. But when the CIDR's are different, then things get tricky.
Assume obj1 is 10.0.0.0/8 and obj2 is 192.168.75.0/24. I could compare these two addresses a number of ways. I could just ignore the CIDR, and still regard as obj2 as being greater than obj1. I could compare them based on their CIDR, which would be comparing the size of the network (and a /8 will trump a /24 quite easily). I could compare them on both their numerical address AND their CIDR, on the off chance obj2 was actually an address inside the network defined by obj1.
What's the kind of approach used to handle situations like this? Can I define two CompareTo methods, overloaded, such that one would evaluate one address relative to another address, and the second would evaluate the size of the overall network? How would the .NET framework be told which one to use depending on how one might want to sort an array? Or do some other function that relies on CompareTo()?
Is there a way to give a value to multiple variables (integers in this case), instead of all at once?
For instance, I have Dim aceVal, twoVal, threeVal, fourVal, fiveVal, sixVal, sevenVal, eightVal, nineVal, tenVal As Integer and, pending listbox selection, I'd like to assign threeVal fourVal and sixVal all values of -1.
i would like to say i am a novice programmer, in year 12. I am designing a small game for my HSC and one of my forms is getting very cluttered with controls and code. To resolve this cluttering, i have had the idea to create new forms for some aspects of the game (such as different game modes and so on). However, in order for that to happen i have to drag some variables of the new form to the old form, (these variables would be just booleans or integers to say whether you lost a game or won a game or something that would carry on to the main form.)
I'm trying to set multiple variables using a textbox. The way I'm trying to do it is have each variable seperated by a space so like this:#If textbox1.text.contains("test") then set variables from textbox1.text for each " " in textbox1.text define new variable(value, string1, string2, int1, int2, int3, int4, int5)#End If I just don't know how I would code something that can set these variables from a single line of text in a textbox seperated by nothing other than just spaces.
I have a sub which requires multiple counter variables. Is there a more efficient way of doing this. My example is simple. Image if I had 20 separate counters I was trying to manage. I would have to create 20 separate variables and then increment each in the desired place in the code.
Dim Counter1 as Double Dim Counter2 as Double Dim Counter3 as Double
I am trying to have it so that when a user hits a button to enter a shop, it will open a popup window which will have the shop's goods. The only problem is I can't figure out how to keep the variables working between the two windows.
I need to get the variable 'gold' to transfer to and from form2(the shop window) and whatever is bought at the store to transfer back to the main window.
Right now, when I go to form2 all the values are 0, and all the variables I used on form1 are undeclared on form2.
How do I access variables from form1 to show up in form2? Is there an easier way to accomplish this than using a separate form?
What is the cleanest way to assign a value to multiple variables? For example, how can I assign FALSE to each of Label1.Visible, Label2.Visible, Label3.Visible, Label4.Visible, and Label5.Visible.Is there anything like
This is my first attempt at writing a program that accesses a database from scratch, rather than simply modifying my company's existing programs. It's also my first time using VB.Net 2010, as our other programs are written in VB6 and VB.NET 2003. We're using SQL Server 2000 but should be upgrading to 2008 soon, if that's relevant.I can successfully connect to the database and pull data via query and assign, for instance, the results to a combobox, such as here:
[Code]...
How do I execute a query so as to assign each field of the returned row to individual variables?
<pre-question blab>// skip if you want Might as well consider me new, as I haven't programmed in years, and that was only tinkering in Java. Trying to get back on track a bit, so starting with VB to get the feel going to continue learning. I don't mind putting in the effort to learn and look up, I just am not 100% sure what I should be looking into at the moment... Old programming I did was nothing advanced, only little things like calculators, notepad-esque writers, and that sort.</pre-question blab>
I'm BASICally wanting to know what I should look into for saving multiple variables of a custom class object to be loaded later. I've seen some things about text, and I can do that fine, but don't think it would be the proper/best way of handling things at all. I also saw some talk of XML, SQL tables, etc. I just need a point in the right direction.
For a bit more info on my actual project, I was tinkering with a 'simple' program to allow users to create rooms/objects/etc., which will then be converted into Inform 7 language (an interactive-fiction language). The variables needing stored are objects with a number of string variables and integer variables. I need to be able to save those, then load them out later into an array of said objects.
For anyone needing a more VISUAL image of what I mean, here are a few screenshots to show you what I mean. Also, if anyone has ever used Adrift, it is (at the moment) very similar to it, but for the Inform language.
I have 10 forms and say 5 text box's on each one so a total of 50 of these text box's. But the program is only using one of these forms only (user selects the 1 Form out of the 10) so I was wondering can these forms Share the input text box's? I am thinking NO, if so then the only thing I can do is just use 5 shared variables that all the forms can utilize.
I need to pass two variables/strings to a background worker at the same time. he background worker needs to return the first variable, and the time consuming boolean result of the second variable. From what I have read, I can only pass an object that contains multiple variables. This is where I get confused
