Jun 14, 2012I'm using acrobat that returns unix paths instead of windows path's. So im wondering if there is a way in vb.net to convert the path to windows path.
i tried using:

this only works on local files, but fails when im starting to use network drives.

Well, the path of the .zip file has spaces in it and it's not recongizing the path as a valid path. Is there a another way to tackle this problem besides the shell?I can't us pkzip either. May 22, 2012I am trying to read and display a file using MapPath as follows :

Dim FilePath As String = MapPath("../Document/123.pdf")

This procedure will work fine and display in the browser. However, if I save the file to C:Document123.pdf, how can I access this file using relative path in MapPath function. Is there an option to access the file which is saved out of IIS server? I am using vb.net 2003.

Jan 10, 2010So I open files and do whatever with them right. I've set the initial directory to equal the last directory, but whenever I open multiple files, it never sets the directories properly. It acts as though nothing was opened there, so it takes the previous directory as the last one. Thoughts on what's not working? Here's the code.

I have multiselect enabled earlier and everything else works but this. When you open a single file, the last directory works fine. It only happens with multiselect.On another note, does anyone know why it freezes when I try to do a lot of files and use another program? I opened 700+ files to see what would happen. When I switched to a IM convo, it froze. When I left it to run, it worked.

Mar 5, 2009I have an application which pulls xaml page paths from a database. I can then use a navigationservice to navigate to the relevant page when need be. However, I have run into a scenario where I would like to instantiate the page with a specific constructor before navigating to that page.
Is it possible to take a string value such as "PagesMyPage.xaml" at runtime and create an object MyPage? Obviously, I could do this with a switch statement on the page path, but I would like it to be a whole lot more dynamic than that.

Feb 20, 2010I can't connect to my database now, although yesterday it was perfectly fine. An error message comes up saying "...A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share" this has never happened before. Why can't I access my database?

May 26, 2010I'm exporting my Dataset to an excel file, and I want to make sure I keep any file errors under control. One in particular that I'm concerned about is accessing a file that's already open. A general IOException occurs that says:
"The process cannot access the file 'C:Reports eport300.csv' because it is being used by another process."
Here is the line in which the error will occur:

I guess I could just throw a try catch around it, but what if an IOException happens that isnt related to this particular incident? Is there a way I can check to see if the file is already open before allowing this code to run? Especially when I'm using excel.

.net - Overwrite A File That Is Currently Opened By Another User
May 4, 2011I have a couple of files which I have to update periodically through a process written in VB.net . These files are on a server and part of a domain that many users can access. These files should never be written to as they are for reference only. I need to be able to overwrite some of them even if a user has them opened. Is it possible to do this? Presently the files permissions are not set as read-only but I can do this as long as the user under which the process runs will still have permission to overwrite them.
UPDATE: thx for your responses. The files are pdf and are opened by clicking on them from windows file explorer. This also happens when a user simply has the file selected in windows explorer.

I figure i've got 2 options: the first is monitoring the filesystem for a change in 'last accessed' property of the file- not good, since it doesn't change immediately.
