View 3 RepliesIn VB 2005, I am calling a C++ DLL function that returns the address in memory and size in bytes of a jpeg image. How can I load that jpeg image directly from memory into a picture box in my VB form? I cannot afford to save it to disk first.
View 10 Replies I'm writing a program that print images in full page. I.E, I print image on A4 paper, landscape. When I print an image without rotating it (the image IS landscape), the image uses all the space of the page, and is not cropped. it is OK. The print job is about 1.5 Mb. When I print an image WITH rotating it (the image IS PORTRAIT ), the image uses all the space of the page, and is not cropped. it is OK. The print job is about 28 Mb. The images are about 2000x3000 pixels, and stored in JPEG files (about 2.5 Mb each). I suppose that the 28 Mb should be the "uncompressed" size of the picture, and 1.5Mb, the compressed size...
By the way, When I look at the task manager, my application memory usage grows by job size, which seems to be OK. It grows either 1,5 Mb if no rotation is occured, and 25-30Mb when rotation occured.
Since I can print hundreds of image at once, my print queue will grow abnormaly if I need to rotate all
What is the best way to create a non editable image from a text string? Currently I am saving a number of strings to .csv files. Are there any options that do not involve buying additional products? I am using VB.net 2005.

View 7 RepliesI am trying to convert from a text file to an image(bitmap) file.
For example, test.txt: 01 23 34 56 78 90
[Code]....
The first step will be reading the data, so I created some VB codes:
Dim openFileDialog1 As New OpenFileDialog()
openFileDialog1.Filter = "Text Files (*.txt)|*.txt"
openFileDialog1.Title = "Select a text File"
' Show the Dialog.
' If the user clicked OK in the dialog and ' an image file was selected, open it.
If openFileDialog1.ShowDialog() = DialogResult.OK Then
' Open file.
[Code]...
The second step will be converting the data to some data format which can be used in a bitmap image. This part is making me confused. Some codes I made is listed below:

An OLE Object column contains images but the image type (jpg/gif/tiff) is unknown. These images need to be extracted from the DB and saved to disk. The application is primarily using VB.NET but C# examples are welcome too.

How do I create a physical jpeg in C:images folder based on the above query in vb.net.
I'm trying to add an bitmap image in memory to a page using a System.Windows.Forms.PictureBox object, but it's not working. Here is my

I create a program that loop the images in the picturebox, now the concern is while the images is looping or changing the usage of the memory of the usage of the computer is going bigger.i mean it's added the new usage memory when picture is changing. i wanted to dispose the previous usage so that maintain the usage level, but i don't know how

Ok so i have an jpg image of around 8.10mbs at around 13424 x 11344 pixels, i need to load the whole image in to a scrolling picturebox, is they anyway to do this without using so much memory for example like what google maps does n cuts the image down and some how stitches it all back to gether?

How would i save an image in memory from a stream?
I'm basically making an app to take screen shots in a game as I chat. There will be a bit more to it later, and I will likely be using PNG but that is besides the point for now.Whenever I take a screenshot and save, doesn't matter If I am saving converting quality or using system.drawing directly, the memory use goes up about 1.5MB per save. I'm rather new to VB.Net so I can't really figure out why...as far as I can tell I release everything.[code]Ihave tried setting it to nothing with no luck, and aside from that memory slowly goes up per time Enter is pressed. I'm not sure why data would be saving to memory when Subs and Functions are supposed to release data after use?

I have some questions about bitmaps and such. I am using the IDXSurfaceFactory::LoadImage Method to load an image and now I want to access its memory buffer, so I can do some direct memory manipulation and copy the content to another buffer afterwards (no BitBlit!). I managed to successfully use LoadImage, but I have no idea how to retrieve the pointer to the memory buffer and other informations. I want to basically know everything about, how and where the image is stored in the memory buffer.
Does windows always load images as BGR regardless of its original format? if not, how can I find out if the loaded image is stored as BGR or RGB. How can I find out how many bits each color has? How can I find out if the image is stored y-reversed? And if you load an indexed png for example, with one color marked as transparent, how can I find out which color is used for transparency?
I'm searching for a solution to resize image(jpg) being passed in from an array in Picturebox Control on .NETCF 2.0 in VB.NET without resorting to using the opennetcf library, is it possible?
View 1 RepliesI am a noob to Visual Basic and I am currently learning it at my college. I have a final project to do and I am having some trouble deciding on how to attack it. First off, I have done a lot of research and I cannot find my answer, so I am using this(post) as a last resort. The book my prof is having me use is outdated, its coding on vb6, and we are using vb2010...hence my problem. I am not looking for an answer in code, but more to be pointed in the right direction, or maybe some classes that I do not know about.[code]...

Dim img As XImage = XImage.FromFile(path.LocalPath)

Dim img As XImage = XImage.FromGdiPlusImage(myVisualAsImage)
Does a variable create a memory cell, or is it actually the memory cell, for example: Dim Answer As DialogResult
This is the explanation I have written for that line of "This line of code uses a Dim (Dimension) statement to declare a variable called Answer.
This variable creates an object to store the users answer to a dialog result." and this is the explanation that my friend said it was:
"This line of code uses a Dim (Dimension) statement to declare a variable called DialogResult. This variable is a memory cell to store the users answer to the dialog result."
Probably a very dumb question but I have a program whereby I create and populate an in memory datatable, which I then add to a data-set. I then run a couple of updates on the dataset and need to know how to then send these updates down into the in memory datatable :Here is a mock up of the code structure following the creation and population of the table :

I have searched other forums, google, etc. and have not find a solution. I am creating a VB.NET application using Visual Studio 2010. My application runs fine inside the IDE. Outside of the IDE, it crashes immediately with an OOM exception. I have compiled the program in both VS 2010 and VS2008. The outcome is always the same. I increased my Desktop heap to 12288 meg from 3072 meg thinking that was the issue, but the outcome is the case. Although the increase does improve my response in the IDE. The error is also being reported as related to mscorlib.dll; and my version is for 2.0 framework is 2.0.50727 and for 4.0 framework is 4.0.30319. I am running Windows XP/SP3.

I am supporting an application, which uses lots of String concatenations and I believe this is the cause of a memory leak which eventually causes an OutOfMemory exception. Please have a look at the code below:
Public Sub ConcatenateString() As String Dim Test1 As String
Test1 = "Hello"
Test1=Test1 & "my"
Test1=Test1 & "name"
[code]....
I believe there are nine Strings in memory at line ten as String is an immutable object, but only one reference to the String Test1 that contains: "Hello my name is Joe Blogs what is yours?". My question is; are all of these Strings picked up by the garbage collector when they go out of scope? i.e. when the sub routine finishes running. I seem to have a memory leak and am thinking that I should really be using a StringBuilder object.
I have a client application that connects to a WCF service, i get the file size from the server as a long value then i convert it at the client to a string so it appears like ex:52.21 MB the application gets too many files sizes every time user changes the directory pathso the question is :should i convert the values to a string format from WCF service app then return it to the client as a string format or should i just return the size as a long value and let the client to convert it to a string format in other way which value take more bytes in the memory:

View 1 RepliesI am working on a user control. Embedded in my user control is another user control. All of a sudden while programming some simple stuff I get an "out of memory error message". I can no longer load my project (after reboots etc.). I start a new project, copy the control.vb files into a new project folder.. add then add the control to the new project. Ican view the design and the code of the control. When I attempt to drag the control onto another control in the same project I get an error message
