What is the best way to create a non editable image from a text string? Currently I am saving a number of strings to .csv files. Are there any options that do not involve buying additional products? I am using VB.net 2005.

I am using VS2008, I need to update a vb6 application that I wrote a while back and make it more user friendly. [EDIT] I am not using any of the vb6 code, this is a complete rewrite.[/EDIT] The application basically creates ZPL based on user inputs, it sends the ZPL to the printer via the parallel port and we have our label. I know there are pre-written pieces of software that do this but I have a few other things going on that are not an option for a pre-written label application.
The task at hand at this point is creating a form which will display a mock-up of the label and allow the user to create text, rotate it, move it, re-size it etc. I will also have to add in image support a little further down the line but I figured i would keep it simple to start out. This is my first major project in .net (the company has been hesitant to spend the money until now and I haven't had the time to do much on my own.)
I think the best place for me to start would be with a simple form with a button that allows me to create text and edit it only. I am unsure of the best way to pull this off, should I be using a label, a text box with the design styles turned off or something altogether different that I may not know about?
To summarize:
a) What type of object should I be using?
b) How would I go about creating it?
c) How should I go about making it movable/editable at runtime?
As an aside, I am aware that the ThermalLabel SDK would probably be beneficial in this application but the company is not willing to spend anymore on this project.

I'm currently building an intranet engine for a project I've got on the go at the moment,and I'd like to save myself a little time by generating header images from code where possible, however, I'd like it to match our concept image.What I'd like to achieve is below:My issue is I've not the faintest how to create that from code. I can do the absolute basics but that's about it.I start to fall down when it comes to the gradient background and the drop shadow on the text. I can get away with positioning the text on the larger header image, so if it's not possible to generate the exact gradient I have there, then I have a work around for that, but what I really want to achieve is the text with the font and drop shadow.

I'm making a front end to dvdauthor.I have a picturebox which holds the menu background. In order to draw a textbutton on the background image I store the image in a hidden picturebox. So the text doesn't get drawn to the visible background.

Once this happens i click the manipulate image button and the image should be altered so that paris-steg.png has a message hidden in it. Then i have to decode that message. i have my project working fine in vb6,,but when i try to convert it ..well you know what happens 99.9% of the time.Anyhow all i have been able to get working is the code below.which basically just throws a textbox up onto the listview where ever the mouse is clicked at..but i can't figure out how to get it to lock into any of the cells,columns etc.can someone just show me the simplest way to get the textbox to lock into the cell that the mouse clicks on..or subitem etc.I have no more hair to pull out..I'd start pulling teeth..but I'm already passed that option too

The icon in front of the name has changed to a module icon, and the designer and code are no longer found. When I run the application, it still functions as expected.
