Convert Image To String?

Apr 3, 2012

I want to convert an image to a string, then put it into 1 cell in a datagridview as a string. I've read around on the forums and I saw some people say to use StreamReader, others say BinaryReader. Well Imma try both and see how it comes out. But I'm kinda stump. I'm trying StreamReader first, and I don't know how I should even do this. This is what I've got:

Dim ofd As OpenFileDialog = OpenFileDialog1
ofd.FileName = ""
ofd.Multiselect = False

[Code]....

In my do loop, should I put it into a temp text file and then read that textfile into the datagridview? If I did that, I think it would take up some time.

Get An Image From My.resources By String Name?

Feb 27, 2012

I am trying to load a GIF file by its string name from my.resources as what GIF to show is chosen at random and based off that random number we get a valid string name. The names come out proper because I used the Msgbox trick

Here is my faulty coding

Public Function PrintCardName(ByVal Suit As String, ByVal Hand As String, ByRef ImgBoxUpdate As System.Windows.Forms.PictureBox)
'Working code omitted to save reading time
ImgBoxUpdate.Image = My.Resources.ResourceManager.GetObject(Card_File_N ame)
End Function

And Card_File_Name is a predefined string, and no there is no space after the letter N in card_file_name it just appears that way because its italicized
The issue is that the Imagebox that is referanced to IMGBOXUPDATE goes blank after this function.

Dynamically Swap A String For An Image In Datagridview?

Dec 24, 2011

In my windows form I have an empty datagridview that contains strings loaded from a csvfile. The datagridview has no initial column collection. There are four columns in the csv file. In the csv file, columns 1 and 2 have values of true orfalse. So far I am able to load the text perfectly.

What I want to do is change the strings "true" or "false" into an image in my resources (a pretty green checkmark and a red x).

I would like to leave the csv file text as it is, and then change the columns dynamically.

Then, when I save the information back to the csv file, the images must be converted to text strings to accomodate the csv.

Loading An Image Into The PictureBox From A String Variable

Nov 2, 2009

I'm sure there are similar threads, but I've search and tried most things and still can't find something that works.

I am testing a small project, in the attempt to find the solution for a much bigger application. So, here's the deal. I'm using VB 2005 and MSSQL 2005 (both are Express editions). I've stored the names to some images in the database.

When I use PictureBox1.image = My.Resources.<filename>

and build the application, it works and properly displays the image. Now, what I'm really trying to do is extract an image names from the database and assign it to a variable, this is what I have.

Dim EqTest As New Test1DataSet.EqTestDataTable
Dim EqTestAdapter As New Test1DataSetTableAdapters.EqTestTableAdapter
EqTestAdapter.Fill(EqTest)

[Code]....

I've used the messagebox for testing so that I can see what the value of "Trythis" is, and the string is "My.Resources.<filename>", which is the correct string, but I can't use that string in the picturebox to display the image, because I get an error "Value of Type String can not be converted to System.Drawing.Image".

VS 2008 - Split New String (Preview Image)

May 23, 2009

I have this as code to run the program
Process.Start(ListBox1.SelectedItem.ToString.Split(New String() {" "},
StringSplitOptions.None)(1))

Which used to work but then I added a "Preview image" function like this :
(ListBox1.SelectedItem.ToString.Split(New String() {" Image:"}, StringSplitOptions.None)(1))
I now discovered that the first code is useless, because it selects everything after " " to run, including the "Image:"

This is how a listbox item is stored:
Tomb Raider Level Editor - Original C:Program FilesTomb Raider - Level Editor omb4.exe Image:C:Program FilesTomb Raider - Level Editorload.bmp

As you can see it'll use this
C:Program FilesTomb Raider - Level Editor
omb4.exe Image:C:Program FilesTomb Raider - Level Editorload.bmp
to run
Is there any way I can make it choose the path from " " and when it finds "image:" it stops?

VS 2010 Function For Changing Picturebox Background Image With String?

Mar 1, 2012

What I have done is named a bunch of picture boxes "Q," "W," "E," etc. (the whole alphabet) and named picture that correspond to these picture boxes ("Q.png," "W.png," and so on) and added them to my resources.

For example, the following code would give the picture box named "Q" it's corresponding image "Q.png":

vb
Q.BackgroundImage = My.Resources.Q

Of course, it's kind of a pain in the backside to copy and paste this code and change all the Q's to W's and so on, so I was hoping to create a function to do the job for me:

vb
Private Sub Form1_Load(sender As System.Object, e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
'So that I can run the letter as a string through the function,

[Code].....

Hopefully I've provided enough detail so that it is obvious what I'm trying to do.

Obviously, the code I tried above (the second block) doesn't work - it gives a syntax error. I need to change/write to make this function functional.

C# - Converting A HtmlElement Into An Image?

Jul 10, 2009

I'm using a WebBrowser control in VB.Net to load a website. At that point, the WebBrowser.Document.Images property returns a collection of HtmlElement that are considered images.

What I'm trying to do at this point, is take a particular HtmlElement that represents an image and turn it into a System.Drawing.Image so that I can manipulate it. But I can't figure out how.

I did try to search for an answer, but came up with nothing. 'WebBrowser', as it turns out, seems to be a really popular keyword.

EDIT: It's been suggested that I use the SRC attribute of the HtmlElement to download the image; but the image can be dynamic - meaning the image I download can be separate from the image on the website....so, that won't work for my purposes.

Converting A Webpage To Image With Code?

Mar 19, 2009

Would it be possible to basically make a full web page appear in a windows form application as an image? Sort of like a print screen command, but just for the web page itself. I need this to show any web page in overview as a image in my program, but I have no idea how to go about this. I suppose it would be almost like a web browser; other then that you can't click links or interact with the page at all, as it is an image. Preferably without loading the web page then converting it, but having it as in image as you load any given page - not sure if it's possible with just VB. Even a rudimentary method would be much appreciated.Note: I'm not to great with VB, so if you don't mind, please provide as much detail as you can with any given code,

Converting BMP Filepath To An Image For A Picturebox?

Jul 7, 2011

I'm Currently using the following code to open up a folder containing Text and Bitmap files only and store them in arrays.

Dim d As New System.IO.DirectoryInfo("C:Documents and Settings" & GetUserName() & "My DocumentsWolfRiderGamesWaterGameMaps")
Dim FileCount As Integer = d.GetFiles.GetUpperBound(0) + 1

[Code]....

What I need is an extra bit at the end that takes the first bitmap file found and puts it in a picturebox called "PicCenter".

I need to have this done through converting its filepath to the image itself.

I will also Need an explaination of how you did it (If its complicated) because i'll need to do it again later.

Im using Visual Studio 2010.

I Know how to do most simple things in VB which usually allows me to do a workaround for something like this, but this one I couldn't.
