Feb 13, 2010i am coding an application where I want to populate an array with the contents of a sequential file that is already populated as salary.txt in the debug folder. Basically, I want to copy the contents of that file to an array so that I may use a code to go with the intSubscript of the array. Right now it functions as just an array for this purpose, but I want to populate the array with the sequential file first. All attempts to do this, with stream writer etc and readline, I am just getting the first item in the file. I have tried to loop it and still only the first is accessable. Driving me batty, turning to the masses for guidence.[code]

Mar 2, 2010I am suppose to create a module level array name Product and populate a list box with the contents of a file (ItemInfo.txt) The file contains the Item ID and price of the item. (Line 1 is an item, Line 2 is a price for Line 1, Line 3 is an item, Line 4 is a price for Line 3, and so on.) The problem i'm having is when i populated the list box, I only wanted to populate the list box with the items, not everyline from the file. I guess I wanted to put elements [0], [2], [4], [6], and [8] from the Product array in the list box, but I am putting everything in there. What am I missing?here is my code so far:

I am trying this slick way of doing it by the code below ( found on the web) without success so far but I got a feeling I am close to the solution. I am new to any kind of Programming. In one thread I'll be adding items to List1(Of Object1), and processing them, and adding the results to List2(Of Object2), however I need to be able from other threads to look at the list and say only give me the items where Integer = (my thread ID), is this possible? Dec 7, 2010I have a webserver and I upload files to my webserver from time to time. I have an ftp account which points to public_html that is main directory.
I though why give full access so I created another ftp account (e.g. test) which points to a specific folder. Now when I try to upload a file using test it fails.
For e.g.
the following code works:
My.Computer.Network.UploadFile("d:ok.txt", "ftp://mysite.com/Test/okay.txt", "main@mysite.com", "mainpw")
- this is because this a/c has access to root folder of website
now following code gives error -
My.Computer.Network.UploadFile("d:ok.txt", "ftp://mysite.com/Test/okay.txt", "test@mysite.com", "testpw")
The remote server returned an error: (550) File unavailable (e.g., file not found, no access).
Well the ftp account test has been given access to a specific folder with the name "Test". So it should at least upload to that folder.
But if I use ftp client (like filezilla) then it works.
Iterate Over Two IEnumerable Objects At The Same Time?
Jun 11, 2009If I have a List(Of x) and a List(Of y) is it possible to iterate over both at the same time?
Something like
for each _x as X, _y as Y in List(of x), List(of y)

These lists may be of differing sizes. I am using .Net2.0 which I suspect is my downfall here as I have a feeling LINQ would solve something like easily by joining the lists on there common id.
Compare Date Objects Ignoring The Time?
Jun 18, 2009Is there a way to compare two dates (which include time) ignoring the time? I have a 1/1/2009 8:00am and 1/1/2009 9:00am and I just want to know if it is the same day, without any care to what time it is. I know I can convert the date and compare the strings, but is there another way?

Dec 11, 2011I wrote a program to download and play AVI files the files are large in size and long time wise. I have the files playing as they are being downloaded but i can't see how long the file is or seek reliably. i was reading that the AVI headers are in the last 512kb of the AVI file *why would't they put it at the start* lol so my question is is there a way to download the last 512Kb of the file i'm downloading. i have the Bytes Read and Length of the file while its downlaoding i'm just not sure where to go from there, or how to do it atleast. If i had the length in time of the Avi file i could set the trackbar to be able to seek properly. or if someone has an idea how i could get the time of the video by using fps and some math i could prob do it that way too but idk how i would tell how i can find how many kb are in the fps i'm sure it changes so think that way is't going to be reliable. how to get the last 512kb would be the best option not sure if it can be done even.

Dec 29, 2010If I have a large number of classes, each similar to the other in certain aspects (they all share a common base class, but each does things differently), and I need to create Windows forms for each to allow easy changing of their values through a GUI? Create one matching form for each object in VS' forms designer, Or Use code to create the forms dynamically at runtime.
#2 makes the most sense to me, because a lot of these objects will share very common features of the form, notably "Ok" and "Cancel" buttons. But one object might need to draw a textbox on the form while another might need to draw a combobox. Not to mention, if I want to put icons on the "Ok" and "Cancel" buttons, I'd have to do this for each copy of the form in designer, and that sounds like it could get out of hand quickly.But is drawing forms through code sane? VS' forms designer is pretty sophisticated and designed to make life easier. Am I wise to consider ignoring its functionality and diving into the trench warfare of forms design through code? Or are there examples of automating form creation based on an existing object's properties?

Currently I am forming a Collection as I instantiate new objects.Is there a prefered to map this collection to, say, a Datagridview? I have a factory method to dynamically create and return an object of a type based on input from elsewhere. The provided input is meant to be the class name from which to create an object from. Normal syntax means that the entire class has to be explicitly spelled out. To do it this way, there could literally be hundreds of if/then's or cases to handle all the available class/object choices within the referenced libs:
