I created some database already in my SQL server 2008. And im planning to show all this data via graph using VB.net..Is there anyone here can give me LINK, thread or the best is tutorial so that I can begin doing it.Usually my data is based on date only. I have created a table in the VB 2010 Database Explorer but I cannot for the life of me work out how I can get this copied or created into the underlying server. It is not appearing in the underyling serverand when I run the code of course I ge "invalid object <tablename>" I have data as well in the table that appears in Database Explorer. I think I have missed something fundamental in my overall conception of using VB 2010 Express with SQL Server Express in that I don't know if I have a local copy (that isn't then mirrored on the server), or what (the ____ have I got)? An article that explains the overall relation of Database Explorer to the underyling Server would be great as well

View 32 RepliesI have developed a VB.NET program using a strongly typed dataset. This dataset has its connection to a SQL Server 2008 R2. The software should now be additionally used offline. The database should be exported to a *.sdf database. If no connection to the SQL server is produced, the software have to try to connect to the *.sdf database.I would like to achieve:
1. Export the data in the SQL Server 2008 R2 database to a local *.sdf file.
2. This *.sdf file has to work as an alternate connection string in the strongly typed dataset.
I do not know much of datasets. I have created a local database with a table as per img 1 attached, and I use them in a simple drop down selector as per img 2. But I get the message as per img 3 , and I played around with the dataset, removing teh primarkey, etc.

View 1 RepliesI have created an access database which i want to search with vb.net, I tried a few thing but it didnt work as desired.
Firstly the program is suppose to display items in the database base on the criteria selected by the user. what i've succefssfully done so far is I've added a datagrid 2 combobox, 1 (searchcbo) with the columns in the database and the other (searchcbo1) will autoload the items under the column selected in and a button (searchbtn) but i have no clue of the code to put in the button. i also tried the fill method but that didnt work as i wanted to. ultimately i want a combobox with the list of columns and a textbox to enter criteria and of course a search button.
The searchbtn should act as the "WHERE" sql command, e.g. SELECT EmployeeNumber, Firstname, LastName, Phone, Location....etc FROM CallLog WHERE searchcbo.text = searchcbo1.text And display the results in the datagrid.

The server and database is stored on my local harddrive and I would like to learn to scale this up to having multiple users in our office access the application which I will i deploy on a server. For now the database will stay on my pc until I am ready to put it on a dedicated server for myself but for now how do I allow the application still to access my database without allowing anyone direct access to my server or my pc drive. I am using SQL server express 2005 as an backend. I created a backup file programmatically. If I use same server , then it restore the data successfully. however if we try to restore on different server, then it fails. and throw following message:
"The Backup set Holds a backup of a database other than the existing 'DatabaseName' database. RESTORE DATABASE is terminating abnormally."
On both server, Sql server instance name and database name is same. How can I resolve this error?
I have a windows app created in 2005 with sql server backend. There's also a web service that is located on a web server at a hosting facility. In my app, when ever it needs to interact with the data, it calls the web service.Ive been having this issue with several screens that Ive developed in .Net. The user enters a date, and saves to the database. When the datagridview is refreshed, the date that they entered always displays one day earlier. Eg. If they entered 4/18/2012, it displays as: 4/17/2012.
The date is correct in the database. I verified that the problem resides on the web server. The default timezone set on the server is GMT -06.00 Central Time(US and Canada) and it cannot be changed on the shared server. The time zone where I'm at is Pacific Standard time. I'm not sure the best way to deal with this issue. Here's one way I was thinking: Retrieve today's date from the server (don't know how to do this), and compare it to the date on my machine so I know the difference. Then, when I'm looping through the datatable, add this same number to the dates to display correctly. Maybe it's better to retreive it from the database via the sql?

I was creating an enrollment system for my Thesis, and my adviser told me that I must have a Code in my program that Synchronize database from client and server so that if the terminal connection is "Up" the data will go to the server and if the connection is "Down" the data will go to the installed server on the the local machine. and every 20 mins or 30 mins will sync the database.

I would like to create a server program that accesses an "ms access" database. I will also need a client program that connects to the server. The reason for this is that the server is a mediator for several clients. Since I am using access, I plan on maybe having 20 or 30 clients connect to the server only. The client will have access to a virtual market. So when a person buys or sells something on the market, the server mediates the transaction and etc. At the same time, the access database saves each clients data as well as the overall market data.
