show all the results of a selected folder in a list and then filter it according to the user's needs,which is kinda like the "search" or "find" function in windows.
I want to make a program that is similar to Windows Explorer. It will have a button that when you click it it opens a FolderBrowserDialog and it will have an area that displays the contents of the selected folder. I want to have a label that displays the current folder path (i.e. 'USERDocuments...') and I also would like a feature to search all files on the computer.Also, is it possible that when I click on a file in the contents of the selected folder it displays its information (i.e. Name, Size, etc.)? And can I also make it so that if you double click on another folder in the current folder's display it opens that folder? And can I have a button to go up one directory?
View 1 RepliesI seem to have some finger trouble creating a new application, here is what I am trying to do: I am trying to create a new solution and under the solution an exe (console project and a set up / deployment project. I have done this in the past and cannot see to do that any more.
Steps:
1. Create a new solution, the solution show in the solution explorer (with 0 projects)
2. Using "add" I create a console application (under the solution) and it shows a module etc. So far fine.
3. At this point the solution explorer windows only shows the console project and the solution itself (that used to show on the top) is gone. Now I am not able to add another project to my solution. I close my screen and then try to open the solution again. It comes up with the console project.
1- I want to know what's the windows service project and how i can use it.
2- I want to know how i can making tool bars for my windows explorers , IE explorer and to fire fox internet explorer.
3- I want to know how i can making add-ons for my VS 2005.
4-Can i change my Form Opacity Without Changing My controls Opacity
I'm working on a FTP Client, I started loading the local directories of my PC. I'm a university student of Computer Science. I had problems with my code, because it takes approximately 35 seconds to load all the directories and sub directories to a TreeView that in the future I will use to navigate thru my computer folders and pass files & olders to the FTP.

I realise it can be created using TreeView and ListView controls, but this is an incredible amount of work for something that I would have thought would already be available. VB 6 had the DirListBox and DriveListBox which would have made this easier but without the right click context menu
If I had to create this myself, how would I populate the right click context menu to mirror the options available by explorer?
If you look at CDBurnerXP or MagicISO, they have what I am trying to achieve, with the layout and a right click menu containing the same options available in explorer.

View 9 RepliesI am making a custom file explorer, and I am trying to make back and forward buttons, all I need to happen is when you hit back, it returns the last directory you were in, when you hit forward it returns the directories you were in before hitting back, and when entering a new directory, it erases all of the Forward data. I want my program to load the RTF file when I double-click it in windows explorer, however, I also have my program set up so that it always opens the last file I had open, which is stored in an INI file. I do not know how to detect that a file have been double-clicked in Windows Explorer within my program as it loads (FormMain_Load), and then load that file instead of the last file open.
View 4 RepliesI have a solution that contains a WCF service project. In Solution Explorer only the MyService.svc file is shown, but on double clicking it the MyService.svc.vb file opens for editing. That is OK, but Visual HG (based on Mercurial) now doesn't show that the MyService.svc.vb file has changed and I cannot commit any changes without browsing to the Tortoise HG workbench. This is a possible cause for errors when merging code. So, how do I make the MyService.svc.vb file appear in Solution Explorer?
EDIT: The problem seems to be limited to VB WCF projects. In C# there is an arrow before the .svc file that will show the svc.cs file when clicked. Bug?

So I want to to limit the items that will be visible in the top combobox of the server. I want it to start with "My Computer" instead of the usual "Desktop". Furthermore I only want to add mapped network drives under "My Computer" so that the user won't be able to see any local resources.With Spy++ I have been looking around at what happens when a FileDialog starts.
So far I have found that for each item in the combobox CB_SETITEMDATA and CB_INSERTSTRING methods are executed. By using a hook to the combobox I am able to intercept these messages, but sofar I am unable to determine the exact contents of what is inserted, so I am unable to determine wether it is the "Desktop" item or not.I have also discovered that the "My Computer" node is only added at the moment that the combobox is expanded. So I would need a way to get a handle to "My Computer" and insert an item for it manually
In my current project I've run into a problem with dragging and dropping from my app to Windows Explorer. My app requires an "Extraction" of a virtual file (almost like a ZIP/RAR archiver would). The problem is, with all of the dragging to explorer solutions I have found online requires you to have a extracted file already on the filesystem (most likely in a temp folder) before you initiate the drag-drop. I'm trying to do is be able to extract the file AFTER the drag-drop request has already been made to the explorer.
View 1 RepliesIn Windows Explorer, when you open a ZIP file and double-click a file, say a JPEG file (.jpg), Windows extracts the JPEG file to a temporary folder, and passes the temporary file name to the associated program as the one and only argument, such as "C:UsersjpriceAppDataLocalTempTemp1_<>.zip<>.jpg"
I noticed that some applications, like the Windows Photo Viewer in Windows 7 know what ZIP file the temporary file came from. You can click next and previous and get the next/previous files from the ZIP file (as you do, they are also extracted to temporary files). I've googled and prowled through system.io.packaging, but I can't figure out how to get the path of the original ZIP file (the file name is part of the temporary file path). It's not done with the shell-->open command, Windows Photo Viewer only gets the temporary file name as far as I can tell.
The Photo Viewer command line is
