Creating New DLL's - "the Call To The Server.CreateObject Falied While Cheking Permissions. Access Is Denied To This Object"

Jun 21, 2010

I am getting this error saying "the call to the server.CreateObject falied while cheking permissions. Access is denied to this object".I get this error every time I create a new DLL after compiling my VB6 code and drop it in the component services.i am using these DLL's for the web application i am working on. Is this a DLL registration issue, or is this because the DLL is not being generated correctly. What are your thoughts on this? i have attached the error message for reference

Cannot Create ActiveX/CreateObject(). - Permissions?

Jun 30, 2011

I am troubleshooting a program that normally works, and has worked in the past on the machine I am working with.I am a very novice programmer, I didn't program this myself I am just trying to get it to work.I have done as much research as I can, which has lead me to believe it is permissions problem with the CreateObject command.I have tried a fix in the .net 2.0 machine.config file, changing the processModel user to System, that didn't help. The machine does have norton on it, and norton was installed since the program stopped working. However I have tried disabling norton and running the program. A friend suggested it might be some settings on the computer that Norton changed hence disabling it not helping. Here is the error:See the end of this message for details on invoking just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.[code]... When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer rather than be handled by this dialog box.

Error When Creating Excel Worksheets / Access Is Denied

Sep 8, 2011

I'm trying to generate Office 2010 files (xlsx) in a vb.net project (Visual Studio 2010 fw 4.0).On my developing PC it works. Once on the server it generates an error:Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {00024500-0000-0000-C000-000000000046} failed due to the following error: 80070005 Access is denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED)).On the server I tried with dcomcnfg and navigate to DCOM Config and locate Excel. To solve the problem I would have chosen Customize in the Security tab under Launch and Activation Permissions and add the account under which the site is running (our server task user) and assign Local Launch & Local Activation permissions.[code]

VB6 - Call A Function With CreateObject ( Type )?

Sep 1, 2010

I have a dll ( vb6 ) containing a public class with a public Type ( named Test ) and finally a public function that wants a variable passed by ref of Test type. Obiouvsly, if I reference that dll in a new project ( vb6 ) I can see the public function and the Test type I must use...the problem comes when I must call that dll creating it at runtime without any reference, using in example CreateObject. Can I reference in some way the type Test inside the dll by having created it at runtime? If I declare a type IDENTICAL to the Test type in a public class in my new project, VB issues a TypeMismatch error even if both data type are the designed the same say, have the same name and so on! how it comes?

VS2010 .NET And Windows 7 Access Denied On Writing To Or Creating Files In Project Files Folder?

May 22, 2012

Ok I know this question has been asked to death but I still have not seen a good answer. I have created an application in VS2010 using VB.NET. In my application I have an error log that is an XML file located in the Public gstLocalErrorLogLocation As String = Application.StartupPath & "ErrorLog"that gets written to in the event of an error so I can trouble shoot application easier. My application also downloads files from our FTP site and puts the files in Public gstLocalDownloadLocation As String = Application.StartupPath & "download"So I have files that get read and written to as well and created and deleted all in the Application.StartupPath which is either "c:Program Files(Application Directory)(Some Directory)(Some File)" or "c:Program Files (x86)(Application Directory)(Some Directory)(Some File)" depending on 32bit or 64bit Windows 7.

After creating the setup I install it on my test machine that have both Windows 7 32bit and 64bit.Everything in the application works great till I have to write to, delete or creat a file in those directories above. I know it is an access issue and the UAC. This will get installed on numerous systems so the options I have seen to change file or folder permission on the computers manually is not an option. What has to happen is after I install the application it just works like when you install it on XP. Some post have suggested that you us a user with administrator privilages or group which is all fine and dandy but the user I have used to test the application has all of that.

So what I am asking is how do you create an application with VS2010 in VB.NET that after creating a setup package and installing on Windows 7 will just work with out "Access to the path c:Program Files(Application Directory)(Some Directory)(Some File) is denied." If I have to install this on 100 Windows 7 computers it has to be a concreate no manually doing anything just install and work like when we installed on XP.

C# - Accessing Office Word Object Model Through Asp.net Results In "failed Due To The Following Error: 80070005 Access Is Denied."

Aug 13, 2010

I have developed a website that allows users to upload office documents then uses the office object model to convert the document to an HTML file that it then displays in an iFrame. I have, of course, included references to Office.interop.word, and the site works fine on my development machine. When I uploaded it to my production server the site functions fine until I try to upload a document. I initially got a similar error that said "COM object not registered". I realized that Word wasn't installed on my production server. So I installed word and now when the server tries to access the word object model I receive the following error:

Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {000209FF-0000-0000-C000-000000000046} failed due to the following error: 80070005 Access is denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED))

I searched the registry for the corresponding CLSID and found a corresponding folder. I added full control to the IUSR_ account and due to the persistence of the error I eventually added full control to "everyone" and ensured these permissions inherited down to the rest of the folder. I then added full control to IUSR_ and again eventually added full control to "everyone" to my microsoft office folder.

I don't know what other permissions to grant and where in order to make this "Access is denied" error go away. I must be granting them in the wrong place, because as far as I know I can't be any more permissive than "Everyone" "Full Control".

Replacement For The CreateObject("DLLName.ClassName") Method To Be Used In A Terminal Server Environment?

Jun 28, 2010

I am in the process of converting vb6 assemblies to VB.NET.I am trying to overcome a particular design challenge.I have a vb6 EXE sitting on a Terminal Server which is shared between multiple customers. Each customer has customizations in the form of overrides to this EXE in custom business logic contained within DLL's.We know what DLL to look at based on a setting in the database. We use the CreateObject ("CustomerDLLName.CustomerClass") method to create late bound objects. If the object is "not nothing", we check for override code. For example, if my base EXE has a sub called PrintForm, based on the logged in user I may use the base sub within the executable, or I may need to use the sub in a custom DLL:

Dim oCustom as Object<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>

Dim strSetting as String<o:p></o:p>
strSetting = "Customer1DLL.Class1"[code].....

I am struggling to come up with a comparable if not better way to do the same thing in .NET. I want to continue sharing the base EXE so I can't just have separate EXE's and DLL's in separate folders. They all need to live in the same c:/Program Files/[Application Name] root directory so I can take advantage of the Terminal Server's shared application memory.

Sql Server - Access A Shared Function From An Instance Of An Object?

Dec 28, 2010

The context of this question is that I am trying to debug performance issues (apart from the obvious ones I already know about and can find).I inherited a code base (VB.NET) for an ASP.NET app. This is an app that was developed way back in .NET 1.1 days, and was the first .NET app for a lot of the developers who worked on it.

In this code base is a class called DatabaseUtility that contains several Shared Public methods as well as non-Shared Public Functions and Subs for CRUD operations to the database (SQL Server).

It is common in my "BL" that a method creates an instance of the DatabaseUtility which essentially figures out what the connection string should be and opens a connection, as well as giving the developer a handle to the other methods contained within it.Dim utility as New DatabaseUtility()

Once I have that, I start to create parameters that I am going to pass to one of the methods in DatabaseUtility (like GetDataSet). There is a Shared method in my DatabaseUtility called CreateParameter which does essentially that. It creates a SqlParameter object so I can add it to a Parameters collection.

Now, the code base is littered with a lot of this:

utility.CreateParameter(...)However, because CreateParameter is a Shared method, I am not sure what is going on behind the scenes. I know because it is a Shared member that an instance of the DatabaseUtility is not created when I call it like this:DatabaseUtility.CreateParameter(...)

However, because I am calling it from an instance (utility), does that change the behavior at all?

Create A SQL Server User And Then Apply Permissions?

Dec 12, 2009

I am creating a multi-user application using VB 2005 Pro and SQL Server 2005.I would like to know what your ideas are when it comes to managing user permissions in regard to being able to view, add, edit and delete information in the database? Do you think I should have the end user type in the information into the VB application which then will create an SQL server user and then apply permissions to that security user or should I fine-grain the application by allowing groups to be created and then assigning permissions and users to those groups?

Is there any account that I can impersonate to get this working?

Sql Server - Roles And Permissions In Windows Forms

Dec 7, 2011

I am wanting to update our current windows forms security to something a lot more flexible. At the moment we have a single column in thew users table which is named 'Access_Level', this field holds an int value (1 to 4) which is then use to determine users access to certain areas of the application. This worked fine when the system was small, but the system is growing rapidly now so I think it is a good time to update the user access and possibly introduce roles.

Implementing The Access Permissions?

Dec 29, 2009

I am exploring ways of implementing access control permissions in a VB 2008 Windows Application. This is an application for a non-profit where users would log in and depending on their group membership (ie. warehouse, accounting, etc.) some forms would be available while others are not. (eg Warehouse cannot view donor info) Additionally some groups can view information but not alter (add, delete, edit) information.groups who are denied permissions would not be able to open certain windows forms. The question is what is an efficient method of creating this permission structure and how would it be implemented in the application?

Permissions System - How To Get Access Of Internal GUID

Have not decided on the best method, but is there a way to get access to some kind of internal GUID that Windows might store for a folder. If I just store the path for security, then it quickly becomes very hard to update a database storing path information to get security information. If a folder had some kind of internal GUID structure that would be great. Is this available?

C# - Using Evidence, Security Policy And Permissions To Prevent Assembly From Loading On Web Server?

Mar 11, 2010

Assume a .NET class library code that, for example, writes to the Windows registry. Then this code has problem to run over internet, because default Internet policy does not give access to write to the registry.By adding a RequestMinimum statement in the assembly we can specify that the code requires permission to write to write to the registry. This will not alter the fact that the code does not have the permission, but will stop the assembly from loading; the runtime will throw a System.Security.Policy.PolicyException and identify the permission that is required.Do you now any other examples of using evidence, security policy and permissions (the key elements of code-access security) to prevent an assembly from loading on a web server?
