Database - DataGrid Will Not Display The Dataset/recordset
Jun 4, 2012
I consider myself a very patient guy with a whole lot of determination to get things working within say, a program i'm working on. However, I feel that I am only wasting precious time that I could be using to actually gain knowledge in something rather than hitting my head against a wall accomplishing nothing. It was written in vb6 and im trying to rewrite it in vb.net. I've completely stripped the program down from all the unneeded fancy addons and now just have the needed code to run it. The program retreives the records, but does not populate these records onto a datagrid.
form1
Imports ADS_SQL_TEST_VBNET
Public Class Form1
Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs)
im trying to rewrite it in vb.net. I've completely stripped the program down from all the unneeded fancy addons and now just have the needed code to run it. The program retreives the records, but does not populate these records onto a datagrid.
form1 Imports ADS_SQL_TEST_VBNET Public Class Form1 Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load
[code]....
I think the problem lies within the LoadDataBound() Sub routine, but I can't say for sure since I was unable to fix this myself.

I have tried googling so much that I have given up trying to look. I am trying to display a dataset in a wpf datagrid. After that I am going to need to display the individual column value in textboxes. I can then change the value in those textboxes and pressing, say, a commit button, to commit the changes to a database. Here's the code I have so far.
Dim con As New SqlConnection Dim dbConnString As String Dim ds As New DataSet
I used to work in VB.net and used Dataset's all the time when working with ADO, but now i'm Working in C# and the Research is showing me a lot of Recordsets.
I have a very frustrating problem which is not funny to resolve. This is not supposed to have with Visual Studio 2010, NET framework 4.0. I have to be very efficient on this platform that Visual basic 6.0.
The NET platform should be very interesting on C#, and Visual Basic languages.
In Visual Basic 6.0, the Datagrid (OLEDB 6.0 version) could be populated easily using the ADODB.Recordset object by using the following line
[Code]...
The only way out for me is to use the Add items method using the items from the ADODB.Recordset to add them individually into the NET framework 4.0 Datagrid which is cumbersome code because I need to use For Loops statement etc. This is not good programming practice.I feel like I am going backwards when I am supposed to be moving forward. I use Visual studio 2010 for C# and Visual basic and this should be more fun than Visual basic 6.0 and previous C# 2008 etc. I cannot rely entirely on managed NET framework objects and classes only. I need to use all the objects available to my disposal to programme and come up with powerful Microsoft applications.
I am trying to have my application be able to read in some ADODB Recordset XML files, but I was told by my boss that I cannot have a reference to ADODB. I do not know how this can be accomplished.
So I've been playing around with SQL strings in VB 2008, and trying to retrieve records from a database and display them in a data grid view. This is the part of the code that gets the fields and displays them in the data grid view:
I am trying to display a DAO.RecordSet in my Datagridview but it is not working. The code compiles and runs but the data does not show in the datagridview. This is what I have tried:

how I can display this. Using Adodb or oledb is not an option. This is more
I'm trying to code a button which has a SELECT statement to get information from one table but I want the information displayed in a data grid view. From the data grid view, this data will be stored in a different table within the same database.Previously i had used a list box to display the information but i could not save it in the data base.[code]Is there any way you can display this on a data grid view like i did on the listbox?Im using a datagrid view textboxcolumn column.
I got a system which i want to insert, delete, update the data into my database and the data from database will be display using datagrid. The below is the coding for one of my button, delete.
Private Sub btnDelete_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnDelete.Click Try btnSearchEmpNo.Enabled = False[code].....
Now I wanna set when user click on this button to delete a employee (for example) then the datagrid that i have in my application will not show the data of the deleted employee but in the background, the employee haven't been deleted from database. The employee only will be deleted from database when the user click on SAVE button.I know this application have to use RowState but how?
I have a dataset (WW1Dataset) with one data table(WW1).(database used in an access database) I'm trying to filter the dataset e.g a user wants to filter by a chosen surname (SurnameTextBox.text) so the datset is filtered to display only those records wherethe surname column in the dataset matches SurnameTextBox.text.
Im' trying to retreive a recordset from a database on MSSQLSERVER 2008.For some reason it doesn't work at all.I try the ado commands (all the ones i've found so far) but i always get stuck somewhere.how to connect to my database and retreive data it would be really wonderfull. The data source binding stuff, all works but no success however with connecting a recordset.
1) Add a new record - I can currently add records text to access database, but not images.
2) Get the ID [URL]I'm not sure how to integrate this code into my code. I am stuck here.
3) Save the image in the filesystem using the ID as a filename - I can save the upload an image and save the image to a directory on my computer, but I am unable to name the image that of the ID of the access database.
4) Update the database to put the filename in the record you just created. - I am unable to do this as well (obviously).
Protected Sub SUBMIT_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles SUBMIT.Click Dim custDb As Data.OleDb.OleDbConnection Dim cmdInsertCustomers As Data.OleDb.OleDbCommand
This is the error I am getting: System.Data.OleDb.OleDbException was unhandled ErrorCode=-2147217904 Message="No value given for one or more required parameters." Source="Microsoft JET Database Engine"
My code is : cmd = New OleDbCommand("SELECT [Employee] FROM [PhoneRecord] Where [PhoneNumber]='[(216) 370-1793]'", con) If con.State = ConnectionState.Closed Then con.Open() Dim sdr As OleDbDataReader = cmd.ExecuteReader() <~~~ERROR While sdr.Read = True User1.Text = sdr.Item("Employee") End While sdr.Close()
This was working fine yesterday, today all I did was change the database and its location as well as update all the dataset objects, and now its not working. The only thing I am thinking is that I didn't copy the database to the program directory, but I tried to copy it into there manually and I am still getting an error.
I am attempting to run an update query on a Microsoft Access Database File and am not having any luck with the update. It appears to update the RecordSet but not the actual Access Database (when I run the following code, close the debug window, then re-open it a field referring to the Count_Value column reflects the update). I am using Microsoft Visual Basic 2008 Express to work with this code, if that is of any interest. If you could look through the code below and see what is causing the RecordSet to update but not the actut
Code: Dim strDBpath As String strDBpath = Application.StartupPath & "CourseData.mdb"
Dim PageNum AS Integer = 1 Dim ThePageSize As Integer = 30 Dim RowCT As Integer = 0
[Code]....
When I try to run it I get: "System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException: Current Recordset does not support bookmarks. This may be a limitation of the provider or of the selected cursortype." The error page points to "Objrs.AbsolutePage = PageNum"
what I can do to get around it? It would kind of really stink to show 500 records on one page.
I tried Firebird with .NET Provider yesterday. Firebird was sure to beat SQL Compact Edition. I was amazed from it's features and precision. But I felt sad when I wasn't able to find updatable RecordSet/ResultSet features and functions in the .NET provider. FBResultSet doesn't contains anything, no rows addition, creation, modification, nothing. Anybody knows if this feature exists in Ado .Net provider of Firebird because there's no documentation.I would like to receive help because I am waiting to integrate Firebird in my freeware application. Also, if there's are replacement functions for implementing updatable RecordSet, ResultSet.
I have a search form on that will be pulling search template queries from a table in the underlying (an Access db on a share). The search form has a calendar control for filtering by date range, a listbox containing the names of the search templates, a second listbox which lists the fields in the selected template, and then some controls which show/hide themselves depending on which field is selected so that the user can pick a field and enter it's unique criteria in the appropriate control for filtering. Below these controls is a DataGrid, which will obviously display the results.
The problem is how to dynamically "transform" this DataGrid to display the selected search template. These templates do not represent tables in the underlying; rather they represent preconstructed SQL queries (stored in a table) which are essentially SELECT queries with joins and no WHERE clause (so they are the results of multiple tables joined together by their keys).
To be honest, I'm having trouble even generating the LINQ queries to represent these template dynamically, but that's not as important, since I can manually translate the SQL queries into LINQ. This is definitely not the preferred method, as the whole point of putting these templates in a table, rather than code, was to allow for future additions without rebuilding/redistributing the application interface.
What I am trying to do basically is open an access query in a datagrid view and then be able to make changes to the datagrid and then save it back to the database. When I try to save:
I have a problem saving a dataset which contains rows that i have imported from another dataset. i can successfully view the imported rows in a gridview but i cannot commit the rows back to the database.
I need a way to read an xml file into a datagrid without using a dataset. I realize this is probably the accepted procedure, but it forces me to change a lot of existing code if I do.
I'm populated my datagridview with data from my database - directly coded to update. I now want to export this data to excel or .csv file. I have found out how to export it from a dataset but not a datagrid. How can I populate a DataSet from my DataGrid? [code]
My problem is that I can't populate a datgrid with the contents of a dataset. Having searched for the last few days to try and resolve this, I have given up and thought I would try here. I am using Visual Studio 2010 and attempting to create a WPF application. As you can tell from the code I am very new to this and any suggestions for improvement will be most welcome. I can see that the dataset is populated ok via the visualizer, I have a datagrid 'dgBOM' which I want to display the results. A popular solution in my searches was to add '.DataSource' but when I type the '.' after dgBOM the Datasource option is not there.
Code:
Public Sub Connect() Dim cn As OleDbConnection Dim cmd As OleDbCommand Dim dr As OleDbDataReader
I have a datagrid that I use to display data from a SQL 2000 table. I am trying to write back any changes the user makes to the datagrid data back to the original table but don't know the proper method to do this.
Here is the code that populates the datagrid:
Dim TheDatabase As System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection Dim ConnectionString As String Dim cmd3 As New SqlCommand Dim Adp3 As New SqlDataAdapter
[Code]...
I could use some suggestions on how to code the write back command that will allow the user to change the data in the datagrid and have those changes be written back to my tAdjustment table.
I am binding a dataset (dsTest) with a table called "TempResult" to a datagrid (DatagridView1).The purpose of the datagrid is to display test labels (set elsewhere in the software) and to allow the user to enter results into an empty column titled results. To achieve this I've filled the dataset with the required test labels then added a column called "Result" with a default value of 0.00.The user can enter numbers into the "Result" column on the grid then click a button "ADD" to update the changes to the datatset,When I first open the form the datagrid shows the correct information and any changes made to the Result column are updated correctly - all is well.
Private Sub Add_Results() Dim ResultColumn As DataColumn Dim Rows As Integer Dim i As Integer
[code]....
If I close the form and open it up again (i.e. the user wants to add more results) the datagrid shows the results entered the last time the form was use and any changes made to the grid are not updated and the form won't work again until the software is reloaded.
