Database Path Set In .net?
Feb 15, 2012
i'm using opendialog control to select the database file. this works for me.
Private Sub btnbrowse_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnbrowse.Click
opendatabase.ShowDialog()
txtfilename.Text = opendatabase.FileName
End Sub
Then i need to connect with the actual code.i'm able to connect my database only by giving the direct path in the code.
dbProvider = "PROVIDER=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;"
dbSource = "Data Source = G:module1module1student.mdb"
but i need some other way to access database path from the textbox( i.e., in my code it is txtfilename.text).
dbProvider = "PROVIDER=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;"
dbSource = "Data Source = txtfilename.text"

1. First off, how do I make my path to my database relative? The path is currently absolute and is: Data Source=J:/College/AS_DSFinalDatabase1.accdb
2. Second of all, where do I save my database in the project? I want it to be included in like project folders...kind of like the App_Data folder in ASP.Net.
3. I'm recieving an error whenever I try to populate more than 1 DataGridView upon form load for some reason...I've tried 5 different ways of writing the code, and I get the same error...there's no error description, so does anyone know what the issue is? Here's the error:

I have an Access database ubicated in the path: C:Documents and Settings obertoMy DocumentsVisual Studio 2008ProjectsDictionaryDictionaryDictionary.mdb But when I execute the instrucction: stringConnection=System.IO.Path.Combine Application.StartupPath, "Dictionary.mdb") the path where catches the database is : C:Documents and Settings obertoMy DocumentsVisual Studio 2008ProjectsDictionaryDictionaryinDebugDictionary.mdb
That`s is the reason why I am astonished because the insertions and updates in the database are made in this last path. Why having the database path in other path which isnīt inDebug works with this last?

I have a project that is like a server and a terminal interface. the server is the one that can only make changes in the database and the terminal is more of storing what is in the database. here is the problem, i have stored a PDF file path in the database through the use of the server, but the problem is that i cant seem to display it on the terminal. i was thinking that the terminal was assuming that the file path was stored in its local hard drive. can u please help on how will i specify that the file path is on the local hard disk of the server and not on its local hard disk?

I have done a windows application VB.NET with access Database. while working on it, i had the database path
Private ConStr As String = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source= C:\LBCvehicles.mdb;Persist Security Info=True"
But since i wanted to deploy this project and install it on another pc i dint want the DB file to stay on C so i added a new folder to my project "DB" and added to it the access file.
Private ConStr As String = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source= .\DB\LBCvehicles.mdb;Persist Security Info=True" and i tried it before deployment everything worked fine.
I deployed the application and when running the setup file i got the following error :

I figure why this happens, and is because of Windows 7 and its permissions. Now I'm trying to fix this. but the code for this is a bit complicated for me. I found on this website an example on how to set the permissions on files. ([URL])

I have create a Stored procedure which is creates the Streaming Data Base.This SP needs to have the path on which will put the mdf files (and some other things).Until now i was run this procedure after i first create the above mentioned path.Now i want to run the same procedure without interference in the server.So I give the following path in order the procedure to execut it and understand where i want to give the path guide.
\ServerNameSharedFolderNameSQL
The stored procedure takes the path and tries to go to the folder of 'SQL' in order to do her job.But in this point i receive an error which says:CREATE DATABASE failed. Some file names listed could not be created, Check related errors.
-I'm Cheking the way of puting the path and it is absolutelly right, I mean accepted from the server machine and from the client machine as well.

Am working a vb.net 2008 project using ms access database 2007 and i successfuly finished it. i published the project and burnt it with cd. my database path in vb.net was located c:Deploydatabase.accdb.
so i installed the program in to another 2 networking PCs. when i run them and put the database path c:Deploydatabase.accdb in every computer, its working. but the problem is that:
i need the database to be accessed by server or my machine for instance where every other networking computers are able to access my database in this location of my machine (my be as defualt) without not putting it to their pcs.
This enables me to see what every machines users can add information to the program.
for example, i have got 10 computers networked each other (i.e comp1, comp2, comp3, comp4, comp5, comp6, comp7, comp8, comp9, comp10). i have installed the program in every computers so when/if comp1 adds/edits informations to the program, then all other computers are capable of receiving this information which means comp4 can see what comp1 has entered in the program.

I have an application that's going to be portable so it's likely the path of the database itself (access mdb file) will change so hard wiring the path in the app.config isn't practical. I would like to create a 'Settings' form for the user to enter the path (browse for would be ideal but I can figure that out later) of the database file and save it for future use with the same app. I've found a few things out there talking about creating a new app.config file alongside the original with a 'key' defined but I'm not sure how that relates to the original app.config and how it would call the new variable to make the connection.
