Developing An Automation Tool To Test New Desktop - Open Menu Items On Toolbarwindow32 Windows?

Currently developing an automation tool to test new desktop OS builds at work. Need to be able to open menu items on toolbarwindow32 windows (main menu of explorer windows). Now this requires retrieving information of all the buttons on the toolbar, obtaining the button ID of desired menu and sending a WM_COMMAND message with the ID. I'm having trouble retrieving button information.Now im using openprocess, virtualallocex to allocate virtual memory in the target process, and then sending the TB_GETBUTTON message with a pointer to the allocated memory then reading out the result. Allocation and the send message works fine but reading the processmemory back out is failing but not returning an error code, getlastwin32error returns nothing either.

As mentioned above, the read process memoery call fails, the return value is -1 The documentation states it returns 0 for fail, non zero for pass. Wondering if the problem lies in incorrect use of types in pinvoke calls or the struct tbbutton is incorrect, or my use of a pinned pointer is wrong,or whether I need to use adjusttokenpriviledges to ensure I have rights.Though I'm running under admin and examples similar to this don't use it.

I am making a program that is in need of labels changing and showing depending on what the user clicks on a file Dialog.
Everything works fine except for that when I change the labels, it uses the entire file path, and I ONLY want the file name. How would I be able to get JUST the file name?

I have a menu strip. In the menu strip I have something for some saved urls in the database, I called it Bookmarks. So I'm trying to fetch the items from the database and have it load in to the menu items.. but it keeps adding items and I only want them added once.

Im getting this: "Exclusive access could not be obtained because the database is in use.RESTORE DATABASE is terminating abnormally."
First the message told me i must connect to master db to execute the restore but i change it and i got the message above.The parametrized sql statement im using is :

I am needing to be able to access excel and adobe acrobat menu items and popup Windows (mostly acrobat). Is there a way to do this besides using mouse clicks and sending key strokes (come on, this aint applescript). There are some menu actions I need to automate and I need to be able to discover if a window did open and if so I need to do things in it.

I am using a toolstripDropdownbutton on the toolstrip to populate the
menuItems.The toolstrip is on the customtaskpane of the window.
Problem comes when the focus is on the customtaskpane, user opens a dropdown menu and without selecting any menu from the dropdown click on the other part of the window. The dropdown remains open and even the user switch to other window it remains open and does not hide. It only hide when user click on the dropdownbutton itself.
Note : I had set AutoClose property to Flase

Does someone know of a FREE tool that can recieve the path to an assembly and then output unit test stubs with matching signatures for the assembly.

On my windows form i have textbox where the user will be entering XML data. What i want to be able to achieve is to search for a field called DESCRIPTION= and check that the text included contains certain characters?How can i get the tool to first find the DESCRIPTION= and test the characters contained with the " (quote marks)?
For example:
DESCRIPTION="hello & welcome"
I want my tool to look for certain characters like < > and & and when it finds one to have a error msg pop up and inform the user that the character will then be escaped for it's HTML entity, i.e & becomes &?

I have combed these forums and the 'net and can't find an answer to my specific problem. My menu strip disappeared (after deleting a small secondary form within my project). I therefore created a new strip and while recreating the menu items realized that the original menu items are still present, showing in my properties list. I have checked my design file as well and the original menu strip is definitely gone but the original menu items are there. I don't have many items so I would have no problem just deleting the original ones but I can't see them to delete them! I have checked and they are all set to visible. I have also moved everything on my form to see if it is behind anything else.

I am wanting to create a menu based on items in my MS SQL database i have 3 tables

I can get the form names to be populated in to the menu and can open it my question is how do i set where the menu items will be placed. Eg File with FormHierarch 0 will be the very first one. Exit with FormHierarch 0.1 will be the very first one under File

I copied across all the code and got it going, but when I copied across the tool strip menu it came up with a Red X, where on the old project it was displaying fine. I removed the copied tool strip and dragged a new one onto the form, but even a brand new one with no modification comes up with a Red X. I tried a couple of the suggestions I could find on the internet, but none of them seemed to make any difference.
I tired stepping through the code (F8) but it does go anywhere near any tool strip code. I added a New Sub complete with InitializeComponents, but when it gets to initialise it goes yellow and then next step goes to End Sub. I though in previous projects it went to another class and setup the components on the form. Just got home and thought I would throw a button on the form to see if it would display that and it does.

Ok, I'm a very inexperienced programmer writing my first "non-example" program without step by step instructions provided by the learning material. That said, I am still trying to grasp all the different concepts, syntaxes, tools available, etc. So I wanted someone to take a look at my code and give me some input as to how I can make the code more efficient because I can already envision some bugs that could come up from the code I have written right now.
So I'm writing a program that will have two controls (as of now, which I might think of other controls that might become useful) that will be in a boolean state. I have a checked tool strip menu item and a check box item. I need to have the clicked event run some statements that will either set a textbox's visible property. But my question is whether I should keep the code as it is, if I should create a new module, use a sub procedure, or what is the most efficient way of dong this? Here's my code but I can already see some functionality problems if I decide more controls that accomplish the same task as having to go back and add code to the existing controls. Should I not try to keep the code in a seperate module so all I have to do is change the code getting called in that seperate module instead of actually going through the event code and changing/adding statements repetitively? I'm still unclear as to how this works. The examples in the tutorial don't help very much, and, sorry, I could not make the examples in the previous thread work either and I don't understand the Lost Focus event. What I want to do is fairly simple. 1.) Enter the Test Duration as a string in the tool strip menu item text box in form1. 2.) Make the variable TestDuration equal to the string in the tool strip menu item. 3.) Print the value in a message box after button1 is pressed so I know that it's been captured.
