Difference Between Two Times Imputed By The User?
Dec 1, 2009
ok i will try to put this simple as i can. i am a doing computing coursework and as everyone can guess it is a pathetic programme i have to build. i need to work out the time difference between two times imputed by the user. i get high marks from making the programme user friendly so i want to use normal time (hh:mm). i am struggling to calculate the differences between the times.
i have tried to do it manually by working it out by sums and i have triedd to use date variables but vb 2008 just keeps saying i need to use timespan. i have never used system.timespan and have no idea how i am meant to use it.

I want to calculate the difference between 2 different times. have the following code:
Code:
tNow = Now.TimeOfDay.Hours & ":" & Now.TimeOfDay.Minutes & ":" & Now.TimeOfDay.Seconds
tEnd = iNum1 & ":" & iNum2 & ":" & iNum3
tTimeRemaining = tEnd - tNow
This works all well until, the variables are the following:
Time Now: 7:36:34 PM
Time End: 12:46:00 AM
Because it passes over from PM to AM it gives me like 18 hours difference.Im lookiing for it to return me 5 hours

I am trying to calculate the difference between 2 times.
So far I have 4 labels.
Label1 = Current date and time.
Label2 = Contains the exact time that the application was last closed.
Label3 = Contains the exact time that the application was opened.
Label4 = I want this label to say how much time in seconds had elapsed between the application last being closed and the application being opened again, in other words the difference in seconds between label 2 and label 3.
Below is what I have done so far, but despite repeated efforts I can't seem to find a way of getting the time difference to show in label 4?

I've found that both My.User.Name and My.User.CurrentPrincipal.Identity.Name both return the Windows login ID of the user logged in to the PC. However, is there a difference between the two? Will there ever be a case where they won't return the same value?

I'm running a survey to count how many times a user clicks the left mouse button. But the mouse click applies outside of the form, even applies to clicking start or other locations of the of the PC when the form has been minimized with a NotifyIcon. I know how to count the mouse clicks within a form but not outside the form. Somehow I feel I need to use a timer event but need it to apply outside the form. The timer tick event doesn't have a e.button event or mouse down event or mouse click for that matter. Whats a good way to get this function to apply outside the form?

I'm trying to make a form that takes user input 3 times, and each time compares it to the correct Answer... which is an array of {"C", "D", "A"}.Each time the user's input matches the correct answer ("strCorrectAnswer()"), then I'll add 1 point to intUserScoreCounter. I'm wondering why this code is returning an error (hilighted in blue)? Can I not compare a String to an Array?
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnEnterAnswers.Click
'Handles Enter Answers functionality
Dim strCorrectAnswer() As String = {"C", "D", "A"}

I need some help working out the logic when retrieving specific times from a userform I have created. In my userform, users are required to input a start and a end time in 24 hour time format. I am struggling to work out how best to analyze the selected times in order to multiply them by a set of rates, the rates are quite simple:
DayHours rate (day time is between 07:00 - 22:59)
NightHours rate (night time is between 23:00 - 06:59)
I cannot workout the logic to ascertain how many hours have been selected for which rate in an elegant manner, my best attempts so far are clunky and not quite there.

I have just started using vb.net and I have a checked list box with times throughout the day shown as
00:00 - 00:14
00:15 - 00:29
00:30 - 00:44
00:45 - 00:59
What I am trying to find is a way to get the current time and find which list item it fits into. What I think I need to do is to first of all get the current time and then go through the list splitting each item into 2 times and seeing if the current time fits. For example: Split the item 00:00 - 00:14 to 00:00 and 00:14 and then check if the current time is more than 00:00:00 but less than 00:14:59 and if so do certain task.how to go about taking each list item and splitting it into 2 separate times so I can check between them?

I believe there wont be any diff if user clicks the button on the form and the click event is fired OR if we call the button click event / function in the code. Because in one my project, this does make diff. If I click the button on the form, the App works great but same button if I click it thru the form code, the whole process crashes. This happens in Vista / VB.net.

I am reading data from a provider and they have a column where ONLY the time is provided. The thrid party provider cannot change the format and that is what i have to work with. An example
[11:56PM][516]
[11:57PM][510]
[11:58PM] [510]
[code]....
I can read the data no problem. The problem that i do have is to calculate the time elapsed between records. Here I can safely assume that at most the time will cross over into the next day. I don't particularly care what date I assign to my DateTime variable so i just pick DateTime.Now and then I go through and use the TimeSpan object to calculate time elapsed. Works great except when the records cross midnight.way to do just a pure time comparison? otherwise i am left currently with converting the time into a military time and then using a simple integer comparison to determine of the date has crossed over into the next day. i then use DateTime.Now.AddDays(1) to assign the full date.
