Enter The Minus Sign To Allow Users To Enter Negative Values?
Jun 8, 2012
I have a function that allows a user to enter numeric vallues and also a period for the decimal points but I also want to allow for users to enter the minus sign to allow users to enter negative values . How would I go about it.
Public Function SingleDecimal(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal eChar As Char) As Boolean
Dim chkstr As String = "0123456789."
If chkstr.IndexOf(eChar) > -1 OrElse eChar = vbBack Then
If eChar = "." Then
My form's KeyPreview is set to True. I want to allow my users to use the Enter Key instead of just the Tab key. I have the following code in my form's KeyPress event:
Private Sub frmDesigner_KeyPress(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyPressEventArgs) Handles Me.KeyPress If e.KeyChar = vbkeyreturn Then
[Code]....
It doesn't like vbkeyreturn, which I used in Visual Basic 6.0. I think I must be close to having it right.
When I originally set up my project I 'hard-coded' my username and password in so that I could access a remote DB2 database. Now that I need to publish it to other users they need to be prompted for their own usernames and passwords. I've gone to "My Project/Settings" and deleted the items from the string - but when I run I get the following message on the statement:
I'm making a speed game in VB.Net (Console Application) and users have a certain time to press a certain key. So how can I give the Console.ReadKey function a timeout without just waiting until a key was pressed?

I have two masked text boxes that holds Phone Numbers and Zip Codes.Since they are Masked text boxes and are set not to allow characters or letters, the user must enter numbers. However, how do I add a message telling the user to enter number and zip code since there is no prompt?I don't need to validate the numbers just to add an error message if it's left empty.
I'm trying to learn LINQ to SQL. I've run into something I just don't get. Here's the LINQ program:[code]What I don't get is why there is a minus sign in the SQL before the math in the parentheses.I didn't specify that in the LINQ query.
I am creating a drawer count program and for cash in and such I need it to add a minus sign when the user leaves the text box. I have tried the Append Text Command but it adds what I've typed in already to it like this 10.00-10.00 and that's not what I want, I want it like this: -10.00
I am writing a program that basically "encrypts" any text file you put into it. All of my code works perfectly, but I need to know how to replace Enter and Tab values..How do you do this?I tried doing:
I have a web browser project and the address bar doubles as a search bar (like google chrome). I need to detect if a user Ctrl/Alt + Clicks/Presses enter so it can specifically search or navigate. Any ideas?

I'm using the combo box control in VB.It is not bound to a data source.Visual Studio gave me a text box to enter the values for the combo box. When I run the program, there is a blank value? How do I eliminate this blank (or null) combo value? My combo box is a required field.
For example I entered Option 1 Option 2 Option 3
When the program is ran, the combo box has <blank> (which is selected) Option 1
I have to create a form that I enter the price of gas each month over a year. I enter the price in a text box and click the enter button to send the price to a list box immediatley and use an array. I have the following code but I don't think it's working with the array correctly as it will let me enter the information but doesn't stop letting me enter after the 12 prices. I am really having a hard time trying to figure out how to set up this input for an array and make it all work.
I am making a program that uses the datagridview control for making the sales invoice and I want to add direct values from textbox control to datagridview. But the problem is I am not getting the row, col index properly and if I use: dgv.item(0,dgv.rowcount -1).value=textbox1.text Then the value goes to the 1st col and 1st row. When I use dgv.rows.add() then value goes down to last row of the dgv control.
I am working with Vb.net 2005. I have used Crystal reports in some forms. The Crystal Report on the other hand use parameter field, therefore when you run the application an "enter parameter dialogue box" is loaded.
Dim number = TextBox1.Text If number < 1 Or number > 100 Then MessageBox.Show("You must enter a value between 1 and 100", "Name Entry Error", _ MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Exclamation) Exit Sub End If Whenever I enter anything other than a numeric value; the form crashes.
I am sending values from Combobox and Textbox to Access Database in VB.NET.I am phasing the problem when i enter the Duplicate values. In the database one of the column is Indexed.(Yes Duplicates not allow)That column i bind to Textbox("txtperson1").I used the TRY and Catche method to solve the Indexed Problem.when i run the application the value which i enter is not a duplicate that value save on the db. Once i enter the Duplicate value , the message box is showing "The Record alread saved".But After i enter the new value the same message is displaying, it is not saving on the db.
I am new in programming. And I am coding with VB.Net (VB2008). On my form I have 9 checkboxes. And each of this checkbox when checked is meant to submit a value to a dynamic array. Initially the array was a constant that was declared like these: Dim Notes() AS integer = {1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500, 1000}
But I want the array to be dynamic. That is the user of the program is to enter the element of the array. So I decided to use checkboxes. So that if the user of the program checks any of the checkboxes, a particular value or element should be submitted into the array. And the user should be able to check as many checkboxes and have values representing those checkboxes submitted in to the array.
For example: if the user check checkbox1, checkbox2 and checkbox50. The array should look like these. { 1, 2, 50 } or if the user check checkbox1000, checkbox200, checkbox10 and checkbox500 Then the array should hold or contain the following integers in this order; {20, 200, 500, 1000}.
That is the array is dynamic and the content/elements of the array and the bound of the array should depend on the checkboxes that is checked. What other means can I used to enter values/elements into a dynamic array during run time.
wondering if someone can help me some small issues I am having with building my first project.
1.I have comboboxes that allow users to enter their own choices in and then their choices are displayed into the gridview.
the problem I am having is this is allowing me to duplicate choices. for example:when I run debug to try my boxes, I can type in Johnathan into the combobox as many times as I want to and it adds is to the combobox list..so now I got 10 johnathans in my combo box.and then to make things worse, when I hit the button I made to send choices to display..it causes duplicated choices to show up in the display. What I figure is that it is easier for me to just prevent duplicates in combobox.
2.Lets say on one of 10 comboboxes I got...lets say someone skips the box and doesnt make a choice...my grid will then display the last choice made.. (man o man)for example:John chose in his boxes and is displayed on gridview: Combobox1 (john) Combo2 (5:00 PM) combo3 (waiting)now lets say I come up to the computer and in Combobox1(Dcurvez) Combo2( i skipped and didnt enter a choice) and Combobox3(In Progess)
The display will put Dcurvez....5:00 PM.....In Progress because I didnt make a choice in the time combobox..it put in the last choice (Johns) as 5:00 PM Can someone in very simple terms tell me how to fix this problem?? I am using visual studio 2008 and vb/vb.net as language this is not a webpage, btw. it is for in shop computer just.
I am using a picture box. I want to be able to use the Space or Enter key to change the image in it. For that, I try to use the keydown function as follow:
Private Sub ChestWindow_KeyDown(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyEventArgs) Handles Me.KeyDown Select Case e.KeyCode Case Keys.NumPad1[code]....
is the function which changes the image. It works well when I press '1' on my numeric part of the keyboard as a test. The issue is that when I press Space or Enter, the form containing the picturebox closes. (I've already put the keyPreview property to True)
I am currently working on a program, that you enter certain values/text in and it organises it into a word document automatically,
I found a code online, which has worked a treat, However I'm wondering what lines of code I would need to:
1. Add Bullets or Numbers
2. Add a new line of text (I can add a new paragraph but I don't want a huge space between the two lines)
3. I have around 20 check box's is there a quicker way to check which are selected then write the text in word or do I have to write alot of If Checkbox1.Checked = True then, etc)
First of all my task is to create a timetable in VB which allows users to enter new timetable entries, load timetable, save etc. They way I have set this out is with a text display window and drop down menus with "File>New>Timetable" and "Load>timetable" etc. I am confused as the how the serialization works?
I have attached my code in notepad. My code is telling VB to pull the XML file called timetable.xml, but I havnt created this file ... how is this file created?

As the title says,I want to just have only numberic/decimal values accounted for, if it is negative or if anything else is entered into the textbox, how do I have a message display for that?
