I want to automatically expand Combo box on focus event. I have set the Droppeddown = True in gotfocus event, but this has a side effect. When click event gets fired, it expands dropdown and closes immediately. How can I avoid it?

Combo box 2 is filled based on a selection made in combo box 1 and a listview is populated based on the selection made in combo box 2.When the LostFocus event completes in combo box 1, it hits the LostFocus event in Combo Box 2 but it shouldn't. How do I prevent this from happening or if I can't prevent it, how do I work around it? The following is the code used.

I have a combo box on a form that is set to certain width. The data the combo varies and can be quite large. Is there a way that the combo box could be expanded to fit the widest data/text when the Combo is selected?It would be quite neat if it pop out of the form when selected! I guess I could create this effect by creating another form that opens when when that object is selected.

View 9 RepliesI have a textbox on a form that when it loses focus it updates other text boxes on the form. But before it updates the other textboxes I check the input value in the textbox lostfocus event if it is undesired I return focus to the the textbox and alert the the user with a msgbox. However where my problem is, is that when the cancel button is clicked I don't care what the input in the textbox is because the changes are being canceled but if the value is undesired the it keeps returning focus to the textbox instead of canceling the changes. Is there a way to see what control was clicked on before or in the lost focus event? Can't seem to figure it out tried enter and leave events but no luck!

I have a Visual Basic Program that, when I enter data into a textbox, uses LEAVE events to update it. However, it will not update until I go to another textbox or press a button or other similar control.This also happens when using the LOST FOCUS event.How can I make the textbox update (be it doing a financial recalculation or some other custom function) happen when the user clicks/tabs out of the textbox and NOT having to click on a button or into another textbox?Do you recommend having a separate button for performing the custom functions?

There are 2 non-modal windows displayed- 1]Form1 contains a Listbox with a list of forms 2]Form2 is the form which is selected in that list Form2 consists of a Maskedtextbox T1. In the Leave event of T1, the validation of text is done. If the data is invalid, a suitable Messagebox is displayed and Focus is set back to that Maskedtextbox (T1.Focus()).Now, if I enter any invalid data and click on the Listbox in Form1, the following things happen:
1]T1 Leave event is entered, focus being on the Listbox
2]Invalid data message box is displayed
3]Focus is set to T1(T1.Focus()) of Form2
4]After End of event, T1 Leave event is again entered. And now, Focus has changed back again to the Listbox.
5]Again Messagebox is displayed and T1.Focus() is done
The issue is, after step 3(focus set to T1), the focus is reset to the Listbox in Form1. Hence Leave event is entered twice and messagebox is displayed twice.

My problem the following the new ServiceMenu (szt form) show in the right position but cannot get focus. My user have to click on it to the form gets the focus however if the user click the File-ServiceMenu this forms works well and get the focus.I think the main menu get back the focus (If i press the ALT the File menu dropdown .... )

I have added lost focus events to all textboxes so as to validate user input. When I click on cancel button, i want to detect cancel button click, but textbox lost focus is fired first so I get error message for textbox before my code moves to cancel button click handler. Is there any way to detect button click before lost focus event?
View 4 RepliesI've adapted the code from this link to use the WinXP on-screen keyboard (osk) for a touch-screen application written in VB.NET v3.5. The osk fills the bottom half of screen etc. and behaves fine except for one little quirk. If the user clicks or taps anywhere on the 'background' area behind/between the virtual keys (within the main osk window), the color of the area changes to that of the keys when any further key subsequently gets focus. The outline of all keys is then lost because they are visually merged into the osk window background. The osk must then be terminated and re-launched to remove the confusing appearance.
This behaviour only occurs when the osk window is set to the child style (i.e. when the menu is hidden), using the SetWindowLong P/Invoke function - e.g.
SetWindowLong(OskProcess.MainWindowHandle, GWL_STYLE, WS_CHILD)
It's as if the entire area behind the keys is being treated as another key when tapped/clicked, whereupon its color is 'restored' after losing focus.Is there any way to intercept and somehow override the focus event of this osk background area?

I've created a form to handle "frequently asked questions". In the form I have five Drop-Down Combo Boxes and I want the user to be able to select one of the questions listed in the drop down boxes and have it return a "message box" with the answer to the question. Naturally I'll have different "answers" for each question, but my initial efforts have me getting my message box as soon as I click on the drop-down arrow itself, and I don't want that triggered until I click on the specific question.

When I used the Access report VBA, I used the AfterUpdate() event to calculate a sum and place the results in a text box. I need to know how to do the same operation in VB 2008 Express using the SelectedIndexChanged event of the combo box.

I am using VS2008, vb.net, Windows forms project.I have a combo box control on a tab control.The selected value of the combo box is bound to a binding source.The data source of the binding source is a typed dataset.I set the datasource of the binding source when a record is chosen in a data grid control.Since the combo box is bound to the binding source, this should set the selected value of the combo box, and fire the initial SelectedIndexChanged event.Therefore, I remove the SelectedIndexChanged event handler for the combo box before I set the datasource of the binding source, and add the handler again after the datasource is set.

The problem is related to triggering event handlers when the user makes an input into a combo box, you might even call this a complaint.I have a combobox with a DataSource and ValueMember and DisplayMember. There is no DataBindings to worry about at this point. The combobox is DropDownStyle = DropDown and I havealso enabled AutoCompleteSource = ListSource and AutoCompleteMode = SuggestAppend.The datasource contains a list of Countires, and when the user types in an entry or chooses an entry from the combobox, I should be able to detect what the user has selected ortyped immediatley after the selection, some would say it's the very purpose of the combo box.Which event would you choose to deterine what the user has entered or Selected? few events come to mind:

Is there a more efficient/easier way changing the backcolor of a control when it has focus and lost focus? Let's say I've got 10 text boxes. Right now I would have 20 different events...10 for Enter event and 10 for Leave event. Of course, entering would change the back color to "green" and leaving would change it back to "white".

If after clicking on the NotifyIcon to display the ContextMenuStrip I choose not select an option on the ContextMenuStrip and instead click back on the Excel window, I get a weird flashing cell in Excel.I've created a video of the problem to help you see what I [url] anyone know how to prevent this? Ideally, I'd like to be able to click back on Excel and only have the ContextMenuStrip close and Excel regain focus.
View 1 RepliesI have two forms in an application. One is he background and then I show another keypad form called with the show() method (not showDialog) because I need to perform some validations on btn click.
The kepad has 10 buttons and an Enter Button. The problem is that the form keeps loosing focus (I checked this with a messagebox which keeps poping up once for focus=true and again for focus=false, it continuously keeps losing and gaining focus) so it does not process any keypress events untill i click somewhere on the form. I tried using me.focus() in form load event but to no avail. The forms TopMost property is also set to true.
