Jun 1, 2012I'm using Visual Basic 2006 and i'm a newbie so excuse me if my question is not complete. I basically have a picturebox, in which i am displaying an image from a webcam. Now the user clicks on two points on the image and i need to get the distance between the two points in terms of the number of pixels. I did think of and try the pythagorean theorem, but i'm confused as to what units the answer turns out in. Is it in terms of inches? or pixels? Do i need to set the Scale Mode propety to pixels to get it in pixels? And if so, is there a way to get the number of pixels per inch? Sorry for asking so many questions but i've been reading other forums and i'm confused!

Sep 30, 2011On forms size and such, is it in points or pixels? I'd assume pixels, however, it seems when i make a image that is in the same size, (i put the size as the dimensions for pixels), the image seems not the same size. I'm unsure of how big a "point" is, but i am aware of a pixel.

In most situations, life is good and all the individual key values are needed/unique. But in certain situations, the keys with letters behind them (ie...189a, 189b, 189c) all mean the same thing (ie...189). So I need a way to see if a key value exists (like the containskey method) for only the first part of the key and then return true.

Jan 5, 2012I have to match string like "DAY1","DAY2","DAY3"....."DAY31" with regex in vb.net. I tried something like this - ^?DAY(0[1-9]|[12][0-9]|3[01])$ but it did not work.
The pattern should have succesfull match if the source string is either DAY1 or DAY2 or DAY3 to DAY31 like so.

Jan 13, 2011I have an xml file I parse to get a path to some other xml files that I then want to parse and read values from. I am fine to get the path from the first xml document and fine to parse the subsequent documents.Where I am struggling is implementing the path. It is being stored using system level variables like:
%appdata%my_appconfig
When I try open the file like this:
xmlConfig.Load(userConfigFile)
It tries to start in the application working directory - assume c:emp So the error message I get is:
Could not find a part of the path 'C:emp\%appdata%my_appconfighive.machine.xml'.
Is there a way I can use this pathing structure in my VB code or determine the actual fully qualified path programatically?

Basically, I need the program to detect when an image comes onto the screen.NOT a pixel color at a certain coordinate, it is similar to this but instead of one pixel, it should detect multiple ones.is there any way I can put the image I want to detect in a picturebox, and it will go look at that image and keep checking to see if it exists on the screen?I have it working for pixel detection (only 1 pixel), but it isn't very reliable as there could be many other instances of this color on the screen.
VS 2010 Trimming Part Of An Image
Oct 24, 2010I've got an unusual request. I have an image that will always have bounds that are of Base 2 (2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64,...) in both dimensions. I need to know if there's a way that I can get a small 16 x 16 square (or smaller, still of base 2) portion of the image. I'm planning on overlaying a grid on this image that way the user can select a portion of it and then the program creates a dynamic image from the selected grid square to use. Is this possible to do? I did a quick search on the Image class and didn't see anything that stood out. Note: This is for framework 2.0, but not picky about jumping to 4.0 if necessary.
