[wink]You'll notice i dim'd n as integer = 0...[/wink] hehe I need a bit of advice on how to find the largest number stored as data in an array. For example vote(0) = 6, and vote(3) = 12, and lets assume all the other vote(n) are less. How do I pick out the big one?
I am supposed to create a program that inputs 3 numbers, takes the two largest and outputs an average of those two numbers using simple ifelse statements and logical operators only. I can't seem to get it. I've messed around for a few hours now and nothing seems to be working.

i'm having problems creating a simple button for a programme which finds the largest word in an array and puts it into a textbox. I've done most of the coding (I hope) was wondering if somebody could help me actually with the code that finds the largest text in the array as I am struggling the most with that.

The only issue i have is to get the smallest number to show up.. mine just keeps showing "Zero".
I have an array of integers and I need to know the index of the largest number (not the actual value, just the index of whichever is highest).
However, if one or more indexes "tie" for the highest value, I need to have all of the indexes that share that high value.
I assume this function would need to return an array (since it could be one or more indexes), but I am not totally sure how to go about getting the more efficient solution.
I want to find which of the 64 elements has the highest number and which of the 64 elements has the lowest number?Is there a new command in vb10 to do this quick with little code?
What I am trying to do is fill an array from the largest index to the smallest index -- with the desired effect of reversing the values in the array. I have been looking at doing it with 2 for...next loops and I thought I had it, but I don't. I create an array of this and load different distances into the ProjectileDistance property of the array. My question is this: How do i sort this array from smallest to largest value of ProjectileDistance?
I keep getting an over flow.I have two longs. The first is set to 16552800. I can add 32760 to it no problem. However I get an overflow error when I add 32820 to is.

I am trying to find a set of missing values between an array and cell values from a DataGridView. The array is a set of numbers from 1 to a user-entered maximum number. For example, if the user enters 10, then the array will have the values 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10. The rows in the DataGridView might have values such as 2,4,6,8. I want to create a second array that would have the values 1,3,5,7,9,10. I believe I need to loop through the array values and compare them to the row values in the DataGridView. But I'm stuck on the method of either adding or removing values (or doing nothing) to the second array as the array value loops through the DataGridView. logic or some VB Code that will produce the results I'm looking for?
Im trying to make an on access file scanner, YES I know that C++ is better, but this is a concept of thought, trying to challenge myself to see if its possible in vb.
Anyways, I have a list of Hex definitions, my question is, how can I index this list so I can access the definitions faster. A definition looks like this:
The part after the equals sign is the HEX signature, while the first part is the name of the definition.
Basically what I am trying to do is index them somehow where I can scan faster, as I have over 60,000 definitions and I have to split each individual one in order to get the signature name. It takes about 45 seconds or so to scan a 500KB file. I need it to be WAY faster.

I am working on arrays and I am currently having trouble with searching and finding arrays. In this example, the user should be able to enter a Name, and it will output that person's stats.

All right now is the searching part. I really do know how to search for what the user entered and display the statement in a text box. I kind of have an idea of how to just get the name, but for it to get the name and then all the data for that name puzzles me even more.-I tried using .contain, indexof and few others.

I'm connected to an access database using VB 2008.. there is information already located in the tables. But what I am looking to do, is find the "SUM" of all the data in a certain column.
I am taking a VB2008 class and I have the entire program figured out except for one thing. I've checked our text I've scoured the internet and I've tried tons of things.
What this section of code does is access a data file, calculate the average from it... done.. that works, calculates the highest number in it... done that works... and calculate the lowest number from the file... nope... not working. how to find the row position/index in a data table, using a value from another table. For example, I use the row position from Linkingtable1 to get my value for CustomerID, but i want to use the CustomerID to search the CustomerTable for its row position, in order to show the Customers Name in a text box, As currently when loading the textbox shows the customerID. I understand the code to get the names from the rows in the datatable, its just finding the row position of the customerID.
I have a binary file. If I look at it with a hex editor, the first values are:208, 207, 17, 224, 161, 177, 26, 225, 0, 0, 0, ... etc.It has a length of 330240 bytes I have tried to open it and read it into a string so I can manipulate it and write it back. No matter what I use, I either don't get the correct number of bytes or the values in the string are incorrect. The most common error results in the first values being: 63, 63, 17, 63, 63, 26, 0, 0, 0 .... etc.It is interesting that it appears that any value > 63 becomes 63.
I get the 2nd values by a simple loop:

I have tried a whole number of ways to read in the file, including filestream, My.Computer.FileSystem.ReadAllText, File.io.readAllLines, etc.All either give me a string length of about 324000 (not sure why) or, if they do, don't have the correct values. Yes, I have tried various encoding options.
I need to find a string (sort of like: "D" & Chr(0) + "L" & Chr(0) + "S" & Chr(0)... ) so I can then replace that portion of the string with a new value, then write out the file.I use the ".indexOf" to find the data in the string.Why can't I load the file into a string? Or, do you know of an easy way to find some text (similar to above) in a file and then replace the next x number of bytes with a new value and close the file?
