Searching And Finding Strings Inside A 2-Dimensional Array?
Nov 14, 2011
I am working on arrays and I am currently having trouble with searching and finding arrays. In this example, the user should be able to enter a Name, and it will output that person's stats.
Here is the text file (note, I should be able to go to this text file, add a few more names and the code should still work, which is why I am using loops,arrays,text files instead of if and else statements),
Kobe,29,6,4
Allen Iverson,28,7,4
Jason Kidd,12,10,9
So if the user enters Jason Kidd in the text box, this will display in another text box:
Jason Kidd averaged 12 points, 10 assist, and 9 rebounds.
[Code]...
All right now is the searching part. I really do know how to search for what the user entered and display the statement in a text box. I kind of have an idea of how to just get the name, but for it to get the name and then all the data for that name puzzles me even more.-I tried using .contain, indexof and few others.
I know to display the information in the text box will be something like:
I am working on a program that searches an array for the lowest score then displays it in the label. So far I have coded it in For Next and For Each Next loops, but now I have to do it for a Do Loop. I've gotten it to work if I have the For Next in the Do Loop, but I'm trying to not have the For Next loop in the Do Loop.[code..]
The obvious first thought is: Public Function CheckStrings(ByVal input As String()) As Boolean For Each s As String In input If s.Length > 0 Then Return True Next Return False End Function I'm sure there is a simpler way than that though. At least simpler in terms of the code if not necessarily the performance.
Here's my final code: <Extension()> _ Public Function AnyNonZero(ByVal value As String()) As Boolean If Not value.All(Function(x) String.IsNullOrEmpty(x)) Then Return True Return False End Function
Say I have an array of doubles sorted from smallest to largest. What is the FASTEST way to find the closest value in the array that is LARGER/SMALLER than the search value if an identical value is not found.
Code: dim myArray() as double = {1.245, 2.45, 3, 4.556, 5.4434} 'LARGER AND SMALLER SEARCH for 3 should obviously return 3 because its in the array. 'LARGER SEARCH for 2.46 should return 3 because it is the closest LARGER value 'SMALLER SEARCH for 2.46 should return 2.45 because it is the closest SMALLER value
I certainly can do this on my own, but I am looking for the fastest way.
I have a string containing many lines. Each line has many values separated by commas. Basically it's in CSV format. The number of lines is variable but the number of columns is always 7.
I can get each line into a one dimensional array using Split(Var, Chr(10)).
I'd like to make it a two dimensional array where the second dimension contains each comma separated value.
I've got
Dim VarArray1() As String = Split(VarText, Chr(10)) Dim VaryArray2(0 To VarArray1.Length - 1, 0 To 6) As String
Is there a quick way to get the contents of VarArray1 into VarArray2. I know I can do the following.
For Counter = 0 to VarArray1.Length - 1 Dim line as string = VarArray1(Counter) Dim Values() as string = Split(line, ",") For Counter2 = 0 to 6 VarArray2(Counter,Counter2) = Values(Counter2) Next Counter2 Next Counter
But is there a quicker way to do it that doesn't require passing through each element of VarArray1 and then passing through each element of Values.
The eventual goal in all of this will be to find the highest value in the 3rd column (the arrays are strings at this point because not all columns are numeric). To do that once I get the values into VarArray2 I suspect I have to pass through each element VarArray2, i.e. VarArray2(Counter,2). Unless I can copy the whole third column into a SortedList?
Is there an easy way to find a certain string within a string and then return the strings that you find as an array?I have written this:
Public Function FindStrings(ByVal strSourceString As String, ByVal strStartString As String, ByVal strEndString As String) As String() Dim StringStartposition As Integer Dim StringEndPosition As Integer Dim Currentposition As Integer = 1
I have a DataList inside another DataList. I want to access the child DataList "dlQuestion" events, ItemDataBound event. Also, I'm tring to find the control LableControl "lblQuestion" in the child datalist. How do I do that? Here's the mark-up:
I have been looking for examples to find the string between two strings. This top one works fine;
Public Sub ReadData(ByRef keywordStart As String, ByRef keywordEnd As String, ByVal filename As String) Using reader = New StreamReader(filename)
[Code].....
Now the first one is fine - Ext_Volume is result of the string between the strings <Volume> and </Volume>. <Volume> and </Volume> are unique so this is straight forward.
However the second one - "^FDExp:" is unique, but "^FS" is not unique. There are occurances of "^FS" before and after "^FDExp:".
How do I get the string to search AFTER the occurrence, not before etc?
I've been writing a socket application in which the client sends a user/pass combination which the server compares to a local text file. I'm only hacvin a problem with a small section where I have a do loop which does this comparison:(the string 'fromclient' has been defined earlier, as the information was received from the client)
fromfile As String Dim sr As StreamReader = File.OpenText("C:PASS.txt") Do While sr.Peek <> -1
I have 5 strings of varying length and I want to see if any of them have a 1-character substring that is not in any of the others. If it does then I want the value of the original substring to become the value of the string holding it. The names of the five strings are T1, T2, T3, T4, and T5. [Code]
Heres what im trying to do. I want to search a text file for a word (say) then write only the lines containing that word into a textbox.
Heres what i got..
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click Dim Reader As New StreamReader("C:Program FilesActivisionCall of Duty 2main estgames_mp.log")
I am having a problem understanding the following error message:
Value of type 1-dimensional array of string cannont be converted to 2-dimensional array of string because the array types have different numbers of dimensions This line seems to be causing the error:
New String((13) - 1) {}
I did a Google search on this but didnt come up with anything useful. I didnt even change the code.I just found this example online and copied/pasted it into a project that Im working on.
All code is listed below!
Calendar.aspx.vb Imports System Imports System.Data
I have a problem finding strings that do not exist in a column in a database. I am going to use linq but its more the 'way' of doing I am concerned with.
I have strings like; MEAL GPST EXLEG EXLG ...etc
I need to find records that does not have this list of strings in, so for example DBML BUT sometimes I can have the string MEALDBML, or more concatenated. So this is a known string of MEAL and unknown string of DBML. I would then want to see that record. I do not know the unknown strings up front, so its a case of feeding in the strings I know are ok, and finding one that are outside that list. I was also thinking of regex?
I've got the following issue: I want to make my program change the Backcolor property of all textboxes inside a TabControl. The problem is that one of the Tabs has got another TabControl in it, and I need to change those too.I'd like to to it all at once, but I'm getting an error using this code.
vb.net For Each SpeechTextBox As TextBox In TabControl.Controls SpeechTextBox.BackColor = ColorFondoTablasUSE[code].....
The error I get says this:
System.InvalidCastException was unhandled
Message="Unable to cast object of type 'System.Windows.Forms.TabPage' to type 'System.Windows.Forms.TextBox'."
I read somewhere in the forum how to make this work, but I can't find it.
Im trying to find a tag inside of a tag, so far ive gotten this, but i have no idea how to find another tag inside.There are multiple li tags with data inside so once it find the li tag that equals "a username" i want to click the button tag under it.
If (WebBrowser1.Document IsNot Nothing) Then Dim Elems As HtmlElementCollection Dim WebOC As WebBrowser = WebBrowser1
All I am doing is reading each txt file I find in a directory and finding certain strings in the text then counting how many I find in each file and then once each file has its separate counts it send it to a sql database. I have most of it done, but I cant seem to get the count to separate each file so my problem now is that it counts the first file but when it counts the next file it adds to the first file and so on through all the files
I have put an Input box + Button in my main form to search items inside my DataGridView in Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition, i just dont know what codes to put in my button to enable searching items inside my DataGrid.
im BMP As New Drawing.Bitmap(1, 1) Dim GFX As System.Drawing.Graphics = System.Drawing.Graphics.FromImage(BMP) GFX.CopyFromScreen(New Drawing.Point(MousePosition.X, MousePosition.Y), _ New Drawing.Point(0, 0), BMP.Size) Dim Pixel As Drawing.Color = BMP.GetPixel(0, 0) Me.BackColor = Pixel
What I need assistance in is, I am going to create a form. and i wanted to know if there is a way. to Check (not using the mousex and mousey positions) for example. a Rectangle Sized Location to see if anywhere in the back red appears and if red does appear To give an error.
I'm making a game for a school project We've created a character that moves around the screen and creates blocks behind him as he moves around.We want to make it so that when the character moves from one edge of the screen to another, it fills the screen. So in order to do this we have a Points array that stores every point the character touches on his way to a wall.We then fill the Points array with "formsurface.fillPolygon(Points)"Now I'm wondering is there anyway we can retrieve all the points that are WITHIN or INSIDE the Points array we made? ( remember the points array simply contains the outline or the path the character created, we're filling inside that outline)
What I need to do is find a string that can be any value, and is placed between ">" and "</" with a minimun length of 5 and a maximum length of 7 and contains exactly 2 dots.
So if I have a text file like this:
<a href="www.site.com">a site</a> text<br /> More test<br />
[Code]....
I want it to find only the 5.0.77. And no, the number isn't always between h2 tags, and the number isn't even always the same. The only thing that is static about it is that is is between ">" and "</" and that it is between 5 and 7 characters and contains 2 dots.
I'm finding a dropdown in an ascxcontrol on my aspx in the following way.
Dim cp As ContentPlaceHolder = DirectCast(Page.Form.FindControl("ContentPlaceHolder1"), ContentPlaceHolder) Dim ascx As UserControl = DirectCast(cp.FindControl("drpType"), UserControl) Dim drpType As DropDownList = DirectCast(ascx.FindControl("drpType"), DropDownList)
Is there a faster way without having to acces all the elements on the page?
