Format Text Read From Line Of Streamreader Input Before Appending To Richtextbox?

Jan 1, 2010

I am reading text from a file (*.TXT) 1 line at a time using streamreader. As I read that input, I am looking for specific starting and ending character strings ("<" and ">") . When I find those strings, I would like to select the characters between those string and have it set to BOLD and BLUE before appending that input line to the contents of a richtextbox.The only way I have found to do this is to first append the input line to the richtextbox then use the richtextbox.selection (color and font) methods to change the text.

Read Text File With Tab And Carriage Return Format To Store Them In Array

Jul 1, 2009

I have to text file in the following format :

Word[tab][tab]Word[Carriage Return]
Word[tab][tab]Word[Carriage Return]
Word[tab][tab]Word[Carriage Return]

I want to get all the words before the tab into one array or to create a new text file and the all the words after the tab into another array or create a new text file too.

Here my function to get the words before tab into an array :

Protected Sub MakeWordListBeforeTab()
Dim filename As String = "D:lao0001.txt"
'read from file'

[Code].....

I wrote the above function to get all words before tab but I got all the words into array. I've been trying to use the Split method above. What is another method to split those words ?

I know this can be done with regular expression but I don't know regex yet. If you can show me how to get this done with regex it'll be awesome.

DataReader Read() Command Hangs For Up To 30 Minutes

Jun 24, 2010

I have a datareader pulling data from Oracle. It all works fine but I have one issue. When I issue the read() command ala;

While dr.Read
Column1List.Add(dr.GetValue(0).ToString().Replace(vbCrLf, ""))
Column2List.Add(dr.GetValue(1).ToString().Replace(vbCrLf, ""))

[Code]....

When the code hits that " While dr.Read" line it will hang there for up to 30 minutes which is just a ridiculous amount of time to advance to the next record, which is what the documentation says is all that is happening here. It only occurs the first time it hits that line...once it gets past it once, it does not hang again as it goes through it's while loop.

I need to pull out only the hour from the original date value (e.g. 07:45:00), get the current time, and then subtract the current time from the database time value. In pseudo-code, I'm looking to do something like this:

Dim my_date as DateTime = from_db ' This is the value pulled from the database.Dim this_date as DateTime = Date.Now ' This is pulled via a VB.NET function.Dim my_hour = my_date_but_only_hours ' Somehow, I need to strip the date off the my_date Dim this_hour = this_date_but_only_hours ' Same as line above.Dim hour_difference = my_hour - this_hour Response.Write("There are " & hour_difference & " hours left before the time runs out.")

VS 2008 Read CSV Values / Assigning To Text Box?

Before I start great forums, from what i've seen browsing unregistered this place is a treasure trove of information; however, after searching for what I need I could only find threads that seemed way to complicated or irrelevant, so...Essentialy I have created a program in which values entered are saved to seperate text files depending on which tab of a Tab Control they originate (from text boxes). I'm pretty new to VB but i managed to save the values of each text box to a .txt as CSV, essentialy all values will only ever be decimals (as currency) or dates. Example code for one of the .txt's:

My.Computer.FileSystem.WriteAllText("C:UsersAndyDocuments
ResourcesTermInformation.txt", Me.tbTIAutTermWeeks.Text & ","
& Me.tbTISprTermWeeks.Text & "," & Me.tbTISumTermWeeks.Text &

VS 2008 Read Csv File Into Dgv - Text Versus Numeric Values?

Oct 13, 2010

I read a csv file into my .net program using ado.net and display it in a datagridview.In the file I have two rows. The first column is a component id, and it is supposed to be numeric. But the user can edit the csv file before having my program load it, and accidentally put text there. That is something I want to edit when he presses a button to add the data to the database. So let's say he puts a value of A in the first record and a value of 1 in the second record. Or vice versa. What is displayed in the dgv is a blank in the first record and a 1 in the second, or 1 in first and blank in second. If both csv records are A, then what is displayed in the dgv is an A in both the first and second records. I don't understand what is happening. The fact that there sometimes is a numeric in the column makes it think it is a numeric field and therefore only display numerics and blank otherwise, and the fact that there's always text in the column makes the code know it is a text field?

How To Set Up Array Within Program To Allow 10 Values To Be Entered

Jun 16, 2010

I just need to know how to set up this array within the program to allow 10 values to be entered then later be shown into separate labels as a largest and smallest value.Create an application that lets the user enter 10 values into an array. The application should display the largest and smallest values stored in the array. Figure 8-45 shows an example of the application's form after all 10 values have been entered, with the largest and smallest values displayed.The form basically shows a large label box where your values will show up. Then two regular labels next to the boxed label that determines the largest and smallest values. There are four buttons, a clear, exit, Display Min & Max, and Input Values.I have the actual program layout already made and the initial buttons already declared, being the exit and clear buttons. I just need to know how to setup the array's for the other two buttons.

How To Add Values Entered Into TextBox1 And Display Total Sum Into TextBox2

Sep 16, 2011

How can I get the sum all the values a user enters into TextBox1 to display that sum into TextBox2.The user is going to enter one value one by one. The user enters '1' into TextBox1, therefore, TextBox2 should display '1'.If the user than enters '2' into TextBox1, TextBox2 should display '3'.If the user enters '2' into TextBox1, TextBox2 should display '5'.And so on.TextBox2 should only display one value at a time, not one after another.I am using double because I need decimal places.I have a ListBox1 where it displays all the values entered by the user in rows one by one, but I prefer not to use the ListBox1 to get the sum of all the values entered in TextBox1 and to have TextBox2 show that sum. Because in that ListBox1, I have few other things in there, like Strings, which will not allow the sum of all the values entered in TextBox1 to be calculated and displayed in TextBox2.Not sure if this matters or not, but I thought it might.So only need TextBox2 to have all the values entered in TextBox1.If 1 was entered in TextBox1, TextBox2 shows 1.Then 2 is entered in TextBox1, TextBox2 will show 3.

VS 2008 Saving And Loading Values That Are Entered By The User

Nov 13, 2009

I want to save the values that the user inputs, so when the user quits the program and then starts it up again the values are still there. But when I open up the program, start typing in values, then calculate them, hit quit. Try to open up the program again, its giving me a message that the input file is invalid. When I click ok, the program doesn't crash, continues. But the values are not there at all. The other form I put exactly the same code, just changed the variables and it doesn't want to save the values at all! I wrote this code for saving and loading the values:

Asp.net - Prevent FormView From Clearing User's Entered Values After Insert Method Has Fired?

Feb 26, 2010

I have been struggling with getting FormViews to work the way Microsoft expects me to for about a day and have figure a bunch of great stuff out.

I can catch e.Exception and e.ReturnValue in the ObjectDataSource.Inserting Event Handler and I can even cheat and check other properties of the Object in the ObjectDataSource.ObjectDisposing by checking the e.ObjectInstance ... and I even learned that FormView's Inserting Handler Runs AFTER the ObjectDisposing Handler so If there is a problem found I still have time to react to it and st the e.KeepInInsertMode to true on the FormView.

My problem is, it seems that the values entered by the user into the Insert form are cleared regardless.

So, How do I Prevent a FormView from clearing after it's Insert Method has fired?

(Using ASP.NET + VB)

I don't think posting my code here will really do much good and i would have to modify it to trim out confidential business logic stuff... so I'll skip it for now.

edit:

I have found a temporary and admittedly terribly cludgy solution (in case no one ever finds a REAL solution to the problem).

I have a page variable defined as:

Dim eInsertArgs As FormViewInsertedEventArgs

And then I do the following in my ItemInserted handler

If boolInsertErrorOccurred = False Then
e.KeepInInsertMode = True
eInsertArgs = e

[Code].....

The effect of this is that I am setting the values BACK to the submitted values AFTER ASP.NET binds the FormView to the default (blank) Template.
