Formatting ComboBox Based On The Length Of String?
Oct 18, 2011
Im trying to format the length of a DataGridViewComboBoxColumn based on the length of the longest string in the comboBox. Here is the code I currently have but it only formats the DataGridViewComboBoxColumn based on the users previous selection in the comboBox.
Is there a way to have the DataGridViewComboBoxColumn at the length of the longest string in the comboBox? Here is my code.
Private Sub comboTest_SelectionChangeCommitted(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs) Handles comboTest.SelectionChangeCommitted
Dim senderComboBox As ComboBox = CType(sender, ComboBox)

Since we have to resize the combo box dropdown area based on the combo box item length, used the drawstring() to add items to combo based on the item length. This gave us the below issue: On moving the cursor on the drop down area the font color and the background color are back hence the text is not readable (i.e. the whole item becomes black).
Below piece of code is used to achieve this,
Private Sub cboClient_DrawItem(ByVal
sender As
Object,
ByVal e
As System.Windows.Forms.DrawItemEventArgs)
[Code] .....
We tried changing font color and the dropdown area backcolor on selecting a particular item. How to make the text readable (i.e. the font color should change while if we scroll on the item).

MVC 3. Vb.net. Part of my app generates PDF files using Itextsharp. Some strings are too long to go onto the background image correctly. So I basically need to split this string when its over 26 characters long and when it splits it cant split in the middle of a word. from there I will use newline to add the string to the right to the next line... I did start bulding the function that I will pass the string into test for length and then pass back the string after it finishes.
Private Function stringLength(ByVal _string As String) As String
If _string.Length < 26 Then
_string.Split(
End If
End Function

I would like to format output to a property of a custom control I have made.For instance I have a literal control in my control and when populated I want to check if it is longer than 30 characters long, if so, then go to the next space (as to not cut the word off) after the 30th character and place a <br /> tag in to place the next 30 characters on the next line.So if there were 100 characters in a string, there would be 3 line breaks in the label.I have the looping worked out to get the label populated but cannot get how to dymaically create the array based on the string lenth property and index of method.

I have some VB .NET software that interfaces to a load of old (but sound) COM objects. The VB provides a GUI for the COM objects, part of which consists of setting various options on the COM objects - several of which relate to string formatting.I have a simple pair of VB .NET functions that convert basic %f, %d, %g formats to/from .NET equivalents using a large select case covering specific common strings, but they don't cover all formats.[code]Before I start diving in and making it more versatile with some parsing, does anyone know of a class (eg VB or C# .NET) that provides a decent ready-made implementation? Or perhaps some regexp wizadry could be used?

If using the following in an if statement I get an error: If trg.Name.Substring(4, 6).ToUpper <> ("ABCDEF") Then I get the error: "Index and length must refer to a location within the string. Parameter name: length"
I assume this is because the string (trg.name) is too small for the 4, 6 substring. What would be the correct method of working around this problem? VB.net Studio 2008.

I'm making a user control, and I manually draw the text string, but I can't seem to keep it centered. I need it to stay centered no matter what the font, or string length.

I am using VB.NET together with ADO.NET to create a program. I have set my TableAdapters as needed and bound the correct tables-columns to my comboboxes.My problem though is this:My combobox2 item is bound to a datatable. The table adapter's Fill method (the select command basicaly) includes a public variable in the where clause to fetch the correct results. I ll put some code here to clarify it a bit more.Public Class Frm_inv

I want to make a certain column of my datagridview red based on values from 2 other columns. I have a "HI" column, a "LOW" column and a "Result" Column which are all strings. Now I want to make the result column red if it's values is less than the "LOW" columns value or if it's value is greater than the "HI" columns value. I tried the following code but something is wrong because cells that shouldn't be red are red:
Private Sub dgvTests_CellFormatting(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.DataGridViewCellFormattingEventArgs) Handles dgvTests.CellFormatting
If dgvTests.Columns(e.ColumnIndex).Name.Equals("Result") Then
Dim RowValue As DataRow = TestTable.Rows(dgvTests.CurrentRow.Index)

I am new to vb.net and I am using visual studio 2010. I have two comboboxes on a form, each combobox is set to DropDownList so that a list of items can show in the combobox, but no text is allowed to be entered.
For combobox A, if user chooses item 1, the list of combobox B should be updated accordingly. I think this is quite common on a lot of applications. But I do not know to implement it. I even do not know the keyword to search for the relevant property or event handler.

I have a SQL database, with some "status" strings. For every status I need to display a .bmp image .
I'm displaying the data from the database via DataGridView with LINQ. In order to display the DGV I have this code:
Me.MyTableAdapter.Fill(Me.TestdbDataSet.MyStatusList)
I was thinking to add another column named "Symbol" and based on the "Status" column to format the cells of the "Symbol" column to display an image.
I edited the DGV, and add a new image column.
I created a directory in my solution called "references" where I put all the .bmp files
I don't know how to do this. My first thought was to put an expression in the DataTable Properties, but I didn't manage to make that work. Another way is to format the cells in the "Symbol" column, and again I don't know how to do that. I tried with "Select Case ... Case ... End Select" with no success.
LE: Should I Insert the .bmp files into SQL database (varbinary(MAX)) If yes, how?

I have two ComboBoxes
<ComboBox Name="cmbMake" DisplayMemberPath="MakeName" SelectedValuePath="MakeID"/>
<ComboBox Name="cmbModel" DisplayMemberPath="ModelName"/>
I use LINQ-to-Entities to populate the cmbGroup ComboBox
Dim db as myDataEntity
cmbGroup.ItemsSource = db.Makes
How do I populate my second ComboBox (cmbModels) based on the selection of the first ComboBox (cmbMake) using XAML so that whatever I select in the first ComboBox automatically filters the ItemsSource in the second ComboBox?

I am getting instances of SQL server installed on the machine and throwing them into a combobox. This works like a charm but they are showing in lowercase letters. I would like to change this to uppercase instead.I am trying to format the text when I use .Items.Add.
As an example:vb .Items.Add(Format(rs.ServerInstance, .Text.ToUpper))
I do not get any errors, but the items are not changing from lowercase to uppercase. Any suggestions?

I'm writing some code that takes a report from the mainframe and converts it to a spreadsheet. They can't edit the code on the MF to give me a delimited file, so I'm stuck dealing with it as fixed width. It's working okay now, but I need to get it more stable before I release it for testing. My problem is that in any given line of data, say it could have three columns of numbers, each five chars wide at positions 10, 16, and 22. If on this one particular row, there's no data for the last two cols, it won't be padded with spaces; rather, the length of the string will be only 14. So, I can't just blindly have

I have a P/L chart which has a left scale (Y axis) which starts from a negative value. I want to format the axis labels (the major tick mark labels) so that the negative ones are red.
Something like;
If cht.ChartAreas(chtarea).AxisX.MajorTickMark.Value < 0 Then
cht.ChartAreas(chtarea).AxisY.LabelStyle.Font = New Font("Verdana", 9.0F, FontStyle.Bold, Color.Red)

Of course that doesn't work since MajorTickMark doesn't have a value property. How does one make this work?
