Is there a way in vs2010 (vb.net) to create a form that has alpha transparency support?
And
How do i get a form similar to the splash screen in vs2010 AKA odd shaped and alpha drop shadowed?
I've looked around and I haven't found anything that fits my needs.I wish for the program to be able to intercept the Win32 (?) messages that are being sent to my own application, which is written in Visual Basic.As a side note, is "intercept the Win32 messages" the correct phrasing?Either way, an elaboration won't hurt; I wish for the spy tool to intercept the same messages that I would programmatically intercept with WndProc, i.e: the SendMessages and PostMessages.
I wish to make it clear that I am not seeking a program that intercepts the .NET framework events.
Edits:I can see my window and the handles of its child controls, but I do not receive any messages.I am using Windows 7 64 bit.My Spy++ version is 8.00.50727 Semi-solved; I have got a Spy++ alternative ([Window Detective][1]) to work on my virtual machine, which I am most certainly happy with, and would definitely not mind settling for. Although I am still wondering why all the "spy-like" programs I found did not work on my "main" PC... but I guess I needn't care.

I'm using the following code to open a pdf document in Adobe reader print and close Adobe reader. It works well in XP but when i try the same in win server 2003 or win server 2008 I get a message in Adobe Reader saying it could not locate the file to be loaded. Any thoughts or guidance to resolve this behaviour will be great.

Someone please explain this to me like you would to a complete idiot.I want to make a shaped form according to an image.The transparency key only works under 16 bit graphics and we all work on 32bit. Then the entire background shows.The clipping is also very un-neat.So how do you shape a form neatly according to an image WITHOUT using transparency key so it will work in all graphic modes?

Because when you set the TransparencyKey property to, let's say 121; 121; 121, and it got a button which got the same color on the ForeColor, and then it disapears...

I have a custom shaped form with a transparency key of black. With the opacity set to 100%, I do not see the garbage around my custom shaped form As soon as I change the opacity, I see a transparent square(my borderless form) around my form.
How do I make it where my form retains its custom shape, and can have an opacity of less than 100%?

I have need for a customised form as the main page of my app, what I'm looking for is to create an amoebic shaped form, something like this. I realize that my 'window' will by nature need to be rectangular and that i will need it to have no titlebar and transparent edges, also i will need to have 'regions' on this form that will allow the form to be closed and turned into a standard rectangular form. I have no idea where to begin with doing this but I hope and presume it is possible with vb.net. The image I have used is for illustrative purposes only, i don't plan to do exactly this (my app is a database not a media player for one thing) If having it is a breach of copyright in this context I will remove it.
View 39 RepliesI'm trying to create a shaped form with an attractive shadow effect by painting progressive alpha blended layers underneath the main visible form area (a background mask color has also been set to allow a shaped form). This is going well, but I have one major problem to resolve - the bottom shadow layer does not appear as the correct transparent shade - it always appears solidly as the background color / transparent mask color for the form.
Why does this bottom shadow layer not show up as transparent, and why is this color being shown when it is set as the transparency key for the form (and so should be invisible anyway)???[URL]..

I can open them, but I want to pre-fill the fields in the form before opening them. I have a procedure that loops through the directories/subdirectories on a file server and sets the permissions. Procedure is called on a button click of a form.
I need to display on the form which directory is being processed. Similar to if we use the Debug.writeline which writes to the output in Visual Studio. I tried using a ListBox but it only displays the last one and only displays the last one once processing is done. I want to be able to display each directory name as it is being processed.
Psuedo code as follows:
For each dir in L drive
setPermissions(dir)
'display in ListBox dir name
lstProgress.Items.Add(dir.Name)

I wanna make a control of round shaped with a pointer on that which I can move around. In my program I have volume control. Now, I am using track bar to control the volume. But, customer is asking some nice control rounded shaped with a pointer which will move around the control. How can I do this?
View 11 RepliesI use a lot of picture box, label, and custom controls, all of which are oddly-shaped, and must overlap. In almost all cases, the backgrounds are not solid colored.I am using transparent .png images for the background images of many of these controls (except labels), and using transparent as the backcolor, creating a custom shaped control. However, when these controls overlap, the one towards the front will not show any controls behind it through the "transparent" background. This is getting annoying, because I cannot use any alternate object arrangements.How do I create true custom-shaped forms?
P.S. Some of my controls have extremely irregular shapes, so using simple line and curve drawing functions is probably not an option.

I have made a validation application, the application runs in the tray and responds to events of another app such as save document, on this event my application runs, validates the document and creates a pop up message of errors in the document. However the pop-up is hidden behind the other application, the other application is locked because it is waiting for my app to finish. I have tried combinations of show(),activate(),bringtofront () with no success i have also tried SetForegroundWindow() and SwitchToThis Window() for win api but with these the app still just flashes orange in the taskbar behind the other application which is locked.I think it is almost definatly a problem with stealing focus from the other application but im not trying to make an annoying pop-up, it is needed and only appears when there are problems with the document the other application is locked and will not respond untill okay is clicked on the pop-up and it is easy to miss the flashing icon in the taskbar
