Get Confirmation Like "Do You Want To Save Changes Y/n" When Close Form
Jul 26, 2009
i have a windows form frmitemcard contains of all information about an item. if i change any field of that form i need to get confirmation like "Do You want to Save changes y/n" when i close that form.
I am trying to close my application and I have coded on the form closing, form closed events to call an exit form which asks the user for confirmation to exit or not. All works fine. When I press the X button on the winform things act different. On the main form where I press the X btn I store some user ID data that I use throughout the app. If I press cancel on the exit form that data is lost from the main form and cannot be used afterwards. So if the user pressed by mistake the X btn and then presses cancel on the exit form the application loses some stored data and many functions stop working.
Loading a form is the easiest thing to do. Unfortunately with the 2008 version, I keep running into new problems. Now, my forms will not load when I run and click the main form button, yet they used to work, so, I am therefore, seriously baffled. I'm hoping I just forgot to put in some code. So anyone who reads this post, please enter in the proper code for loading a form. such as for forms 1, 2, 3 and 4. 1 is the main form, and 2, 3, and 4 are the other forms. also if there is a loading procedure on the other forms, please note those two.[code]
I want to do something like when click on the close button, a message box will pop up and if yes, close it else remain in the same form. But the following coding seems only consider one side while the other side is ignored.
Style = MsgBoxStyle.DefaultButton2 Or MsgBoxStyle.Question Or MsgBoxStyle.YesNo Check = MsgBox("Do you want to quit?", Style, "Exit confirmation") If Check = MsgBoxResult.Yes Then Application.Exit() End If
I have a main form that has a button with which a smaller form is shown. Think of the smaller form as the Find/Replace dialog in many applications, such as Notepad. It's important that the form is (what I believe is called) modal. What I mean is that it always stays on top of the main form. I ensure that by calling the Show method with "Me" as the owner argument. Whenever the small form loses focus it will not disappear into the background but stay visible (albeit out of focus). If you don't understand open up Notepad and have a look at the behavior of the Find/Replace dialog.
Here's my problem: instead of actually closing the form when the X is pressed, I want it to simply Hide itself, so its position and the state of any controls (checkboxes etc) is preserved automatically. To achieve this I simply cancel the FormClosing event and Hide it:
vb.net Private Sub Form2_FormClosing(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.FormClosingEventArgs) Handles MyBase.FormClosing
[code]....
To show the form, I use the following (note the (Me) to make the main form the owner of the form; this ensures that it remains visible even when it is out of focus):
vb.net Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click Form2.Show(Me) End Sub
Now. When I run my project, and open the Form2 (small form), then hide it again (by 'closing' it), I can no longer close the main form (Form1)! It seems the main form cannot close when the small form still exists (albeit invisible)...?? When I don't use the Me argument in the Show method, I don't get the behavior I want. I know I can set the TopMost property to True but that will also cause it to become visible on top of all the other forms, even windows not part of my application.
We were using the parent's FormClosing event handler to get user confirmation of the exit before continuing, but have just discovered that the child windows get closed before this is run. We only want a single confirmation message box, but I guess that would require the child windows to ask the parent to confirm.
I have set up a notify icon for my form. I want to make it so that when the user clicks the close button that it doesn't close the form it just takes it to shows the notify icon. They can exit the program from the notify icon. Can someone tell me how to keep it running?
I have a form with a treeview and a listview. The treeview lists the folders on your system and listview shows the files in the selected folder, similar to windows explorer. I have a delete button for deleting files.
Dim i As Integer For i = 0 To lv1.SelectedItems.Count - 1 Dim csi As CShItem = lv1.SelectedItems(i).Tag
[CODE]...
When deleting multiple files a confirmation message box pops up for each file selected. I would like to have it come up once and ask 'Are you sure you want to send these 'x' files to the recycle bin?' where 'x' is the number of files selected.
sometimes, when I use Form.close() when debugging my program, although the form is closed, the application is still running. I noticed this behaviour when using the msgbox function.
I try to transfer a vb6 application to vb2010. In the vb6 I start with a login panel that the user enter uid and password autenticate with the DBServer if ok show application main menu and close the login form. the order of the me.close() after the mainform.show() does not change, The application ends.
I have a situation where me.close() doesn't close the form. I have a form with a button with the code seen below. What happens when the button is clicked is the new form shows, but the original form(calling form) is still there. When I go into debug mode, I can see the me.close() execute, but nothing happens (calling form stays open). When I close the second form both forms close. If I comment out the call for the second form to open the first form closes without problem.
Private Sub cmdNext_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles cmdNext.Click Dim f As New frmOrder3
I have a form with a listbox. I have controls on the form that can add items to the listbox with the click of a button. I already have the save file, open file dialogs working properly but I want to add something else that works with them. Lets say I open a file and the listbox adds all the strings from the file. Now, lets say I add something to the listbox and instead of saving the file, I just close the whole form. How do I make my program ask if i want to save the changes to the file when it is about to be closed? (I only want it to ask that IF there are changes to the file).
I have 2 Forms.Form 1 is main and holds a button that should show msgbox with date that is selected on datetimepicker which is on Form 2. Date shown on msgbox should be in short format (dd.MM.yyyy.).On program start datetimepicker should be reset to today and msgbox should show today date unless user selects another date on Form2. If user goes to From 2 and changes date Form 2 should save new value and msgbox should show it after button click on form1. How do i do this?I made myDate parameter in settings of type "DATE" and i didn't set a value.on form1 load i have:my.Settings.myDate = Today on Form2 load i have: datetimepicker1.Value = my.Settings.myDate on Form2 closing i have: my.Settings.myDate = datetimepicker1.Value
This sets date on picker correctly, but when i go to form2 and change value, then close form2 and reopen it it still shows date that i have chosen, but msgbox shows initial value.
I am trying to save settings on close I have the following code
[Code]...
I have edited the control properties of the checkBox and bound the checkBox with settings value under application settings when I load the form the checkBox is always checked = false ? what have I done wrong?
I have a form with textboxes for input. I have coded the Exit button to display a message box that asks the user if they want to save any data in the textboxes before exiting the program:
Private Sub btnExit_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e
[code]....
The question I have if the textboxes are blank (nothing has been entered), how do I code the Exit button to close the program without displaying the message box asking the user to save the data.' Save the numbers. Call the btnSave_Click procedure.
I have a macro running in Autodesk Inventor that opens and closes an Excel workbook. When the macro closes the workbook a message box prompts whether I want to save or not.I dont. How can I close the message box without save and continue my macro.Or better yet, how can i keep this message box from even coming up?I've tried this where "oExcldoc" is the workbook:
oExcldoc.close (savechanges =false) it freezes up inventor.
I need to save an XML file with close to 10k child nodes and i need to know which approach is best for it.[code]This is a web application so the choice is very important.
Whenever I try, the save file dialog comes up when I hit No and same when I hit Cancel.... If My.Settings.SaveSTS = False Then MsgBox("Do you wish to save your changes?", MsgBoxStyle.YesNoCancel) If MsgBoxResult.Yes Then If My.Settings.OnceSaved = True Then Dim writer As New IO.StreamWriter(SaveName) [Code] .....
This is the first time that I will have ever actually published a program and I have a question about when it goes into 'real use' Right now I have string variables that sets the values of a few text boxes that can be edited and 'saved' (the variable values change to the new input).
When I publish the program will these values be saved in the variables after the program is closed then re-opened? Or is everything reset when the program is restarted? And if it is all reset, is there anything internal (aka not a xml file or something) that will hold the data and keep the changes?
I'm working on this advanced web browser with my friend, and we made a favorites feature. So, it works and all that, but, after I close the executable file, it doesn't save anything!
My application is suppose to save the information that I put in the application that is in a listbox in form2. All the information is in form1, but I got it to save it in the listbox in form2 and I can see it when I load up the form2. Im suppose to make 10 different list for it, (it says it should be in arrays, but I dont know how to do it) and I should be able to save them everytime I put a new one in, but when I put a new list in the listbox and close the application and then reopen it, its erased, how do I save it and keep it in the lstbox so it doesnt get erased?
I have VB.net code (2005) that updates an Excel (2003) file but on close I get a pop up from Excel when my code is trying to close it. How can I close and save changes and not get the pop up? ("Save Changes Made").
I tried this: vb xlWorkBook.SaveAs(Filename:=excelFileName2, FileFormat:=Excel.XlFileFormat.xlExcel3) But it renamed the "Sheet1" tab and I got more pop ups from Excel.
