Get What Application Is Connected To The Topmost Window?
Aug 25, 2010
My VB.NET application is suposed to monitor what application currently is running in the topmost window. I have tried the following approach using a timer:
Declare Function GetActiveWindow Lib "user32" () As System.IntPtr
Declare Function GetForegroundWindow Lib "user32" () As System.IntPtr
Public Declare Auto Function GetWindowText Lib "user32" _
[Code]....
By this I can see that for example Outlook or Internet Explorer is the topmost window as the name is in Window's title bar. However, if the user crates a new mail in Outlook the title of the window is "Untitled message" givning no hint of what application is running in the the window.
How do I get what application is connected to the topmost window?
I am making an app that hides the topmost window, but when i do this, it leaves no current window selected. how can i make the highest unselected window selected?
Let's say the user has both Firefox and Chrome running. I'd like to get the MainWindowTitle from the browser that is the topmost, even if none of them have focus. The code below works fine if the user only has one of them running, but I'm not sure how to the get MainWindowTitle from the topmost firefox/chrome window when the user has both of them running.
vb.net Dim pProcess() As Process = Process.GetProcesses For Each pr As Process In pProcess
What I need to do is Set my new form to be the top most form of only my application while still having click access to the main form. Right now I have tried the property Topmost = True but the thing about that I really do not like is it puts the form above every single windows form. I only want the form to be the topmost of my application. The showdialog also will not work because I no longer have access to my main form with click events.
If I set the TopMost property of my form =True , it becomes and remains the top most window over ALL the desktop windows.how to make my form TopMost ONLY for a specific window (external to my program), knowing the Hwnd of the external window itself?
I have so far been able to write the program that glasses the windows I want (via a global keyboard shortcut).
I now need a way to replicate Glass2k's feature which makes glassed windows stay on top of all windows irrespective of which program I switch to (more like setting a WinForm's TopMost property to True. Is there any way of doing this in .NET?
I'm prepared to get down and dirty with DllImports and all so any suggestion is welcome as long as it is in VB.NET or C#.
I have created a crystal report directly connected to Access 2007 (.accdb) file. In windows form i have below code and when i open the form i am prompted for database login. how can i rid from this database login?
Public Class Report Private Sub Report_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load ViewReport("D:PersonalFareniMahamantraRoom_Facility.rpt")
I'm trying to teach myself how to create an Occasionally Connected Application. I want to create a simple app (like a survey) that will store all the data on a server but have the front end run on the users computer. The users computer may or may not be connected to a server when the data is entered (they may be collecting data in the field).
Program does 3 things:
1. Shows data from database (ie, displays survey data stored on server)
2. Saves data to database (ie, new entries or changes to old entries)
3. Has a background thread that checks for network connection
a. If no connection exists:
i. Gets data, to show, from local database
ii. Saves data to local database
b. If connections exists:
i. Sync local database with network database
ii. To read data: Gets data to show from local database which is now synced with network)
iii. To save changes/new entry: Save changes to local database then sync changes with network, then send update call to anyone else running this app on a different computer so they will get the same changes?
On my program I am trying to make a ToolStripStatusLabel's text change to "connected" if connected to a network and if not connected to a network change the text to " Not Connected" then I don't know how to display a image if connected to a network or not connected. So if the computer is connected to a network I have a image that I would like to be displayed next to the ToolStripStatusLabel. And if not connected to a network, can the program display a different image? I tried this:
I've decided to make my own simple scripting language parser. I've created about 50% of it and it works great! I need to implement "functions". What ever program uses my parser needs to be able to connect functions to my parser for customization. I've implemented "Lua", a scripting language, in a vb.net application of mine. To connect functions to the Lua Parser it used reflections.I need to be able to (by only knowing the name of the function and its structure) call a function connected through the implementing application.
I get this error while im following the "Walkthrough Creating an Occasionally Connected Application" [URL]
Im already in the " To configure tables for local caching" > step 4.
Then when trying to connect this error pops.
"Failed to sync database" <a href="http://tinypic.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i45.tinypic.com/ur3fq.jpg" border="0" alt="Image and video hosting by TinyPic"></a>
I am trying to develop an application using VS 2008 connected to MySQL database. Previously in vb6 i was using adodb and now when i googled and got a few sample projects done using VS2008 in which most of the module codes were OLEDB.....To which method should i stick to...?
Excuse me for posting this, but I have searched both Google along with this forum before asking this question, maybe I'm not using the right keywords but I apologize if it's easy to find.I would like to know how one could close a third-party window (application) if a specified string was found in the window title.
If you have ever noticed in the Task Manager, when you right-click on the running task, you have many options which include 'Minimize' and 'Maximize'. Is there anyway to do achieve this in vb?
I would like to ask how to connect our application to connected computers in a LAN.Will I use the winsock control? How can I run queries using a server database?Any answers are welcome.
I am in need of a small application, that will allways be topmost and will send keystrokes to the last active application (typically notepad or an explorer window). My problem is retrieving the current active form (or application), when my application is started up. Every search seems to return old and rather complex solutions using Win32 library functions, but I was kinda hoping, that .Net allowed for a neater and more simple solution.I need a code example or link on how to retrieve the currently active application window from another application just starting up.
I need to run an external JAR file (which is minecraft) within the window (form) of a VB.NET application, so like having the program in the center and additional text I like around it.
I just read a recent article here at the code guru about the flip-3d feature available on Vista and Windows 7.It allows, you to place an application above, or below the windows being flipped.
Here is a VB example of that code really neat code.
Code: Const DWMWA_FLIP3D_POLICY As Int32 = 8 Const DWMWA_EXCLUDE_NONE As Int32 = 0 Const DWMWA_EXCLUDE_BELOW As Int32 = 1 Const DWMWA_EXCLUDE_ABOVE As Int32 = 2
I am aware of the 'topmost' keyword in VB.NET for specifying a window to be brought to the front or top of the display windows showing. However, specifying 'xlApp.topmost' is resulting in a compile error in my VB 2010 Express project; most likely because my project doesn't include a reference that it needs for 'xlApp.topmost' to start working. What reference do I need to add?
I am trying to write a program that displays a medium opacity image as the topmost form. that I can handle, the part that is giving me trouble is that I want windows to "ignore" the topmost picture form and allow me to interact with any forms behind it (mine or otherwise) as if the see-through form isn't there. I have searched all over but cant seem to find a way to do this.
Shell("C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOFFICE11POWERPNT.EXE C:Cacthuattoan.ppt") but when it is opened , it only show in tasbar. i want to it appear with max window.
I'm writing a program that's supposed to keep the employees at my work away from doing things they're not supposed to on the computer. So I made a "launcher" window that's only closeable with password. I also disabled task manager. However when I start an application from my launcher window, the launcher window goes over it because of its topmost property.
I have a form that has to be on top for a period of time, and then can be set behind other windows normally. Is there anything in addition to setting Me.TopMost to True or False that needs to be done? I ask because it doesn't seem to be working.
