Getting A Unique ID For A Thin Client Running Terminal Services?
Apr 20, 2009
We want to set up a bunch of thin clients linked to a server running server 2003 using terminal services. When the thin client runs our app it needs to know which station it is so it can gather information unique to itself from the database. (IP address?). Our app is written in VB6.
I have a custom bar code app running on .Net 2.0 framework and installed on a Windows Terminal Server. I'm using HP type thin clients and they are pulling their desktop from the TS that has my barcode app installed on it.For the most part, the barcode app runs with no problem. The only issue I have, is that my barcode app needs to print labels to a specific printer based on the work center that the thin client is located in. The barcode app was designed to route the labels based on the device name (Windows name) of the system that the barcode transaction originated from.I have full blown Windows XP Pro systems also running the barcode app and I have no problem with the label routing because each of those type systems has a unique name that I can use for routing. Where I'm running into a problem is that the barcode app running from the thin clients, appears (from the barcode app's point of view) to running from the Terminal Server not the individual thin clients.
Does anyone have any idea how I can pull some type of unique identifier from these thin clients to use within the barcode app to use for routing of the labels?
I'm looking for an API/function I can call to determine if software is running on Citrix, Terminal Services, or a stand-alone PC. Optimally, it would work something like this: [code]I would prefer something that worked from an API call as opposed to looking at something in the registry as we're having more and more customers that are locking down the registry.
We are developing an application in VB.NET that will need to accomodate remote users logging onto a Microsoft Terminal Server using RDP through the MSTSC.exe client.
Is it possible to offer an 'Upload' button which will allow the remote user to pick a file from his/her local hard drive and upload to the server ?
i connect to a remote pc via terminal services, when i print with the Microsoft Office Word i get the print in my local printer fast, but when i try to print with my own application the print take 10 seconds.
Has anyone ever come across a way of a way to create an app that kind of mimics what Terminal Services manager does in Windows2003/XP.
I would like to write something that would either go and query a farm of server every n secs a get me a list of users logged in, there process's etc or do maybe type a username in and it goes and finds the user in the farm and returns their details.
I'm currently developing an application on Visual Basic (2010) which requires the use of a Thin Client's serial port. I have already activated the port mapping, and tested the communication (successfully) with PuTTY. How ever when trying to use my software y receive a message The selected port name is invalid, or it is not a serial port.I have already made some successful tests with a common PC with positive results.
I've made a simple knowledgebase program which contains example documents. The documents are stored in a folder, and in an accessdatabase stands the information about the documents. The program also includes a simple search option. The program itself is located in a folder on a network computer. It has to be a network program for collegues can add other examples. Now it gets weird. at least in my opinion. When I run the program locally -> no problem. When I run the program from another network PC -> no problem. But when I run the program from a network Thin Client -> shaboom..At least when I enter a search option and the connection to the database is opened:"Application attempted to perform an operation not allowed by the security pollcy. To grand this application the required permission, contact you system administrator or use the Microsoft .NET framework configuration tool."[code]Now I've found a LOT of topics in this forum and many others, and it's clear that apps from another network location are run without "full trust". And the trust issue can be handled with caspol or web.config. Although caspol is a mystery to me and web.config didn't seem to work. But since it's so explicitly crashing on Thin Clients.
I have a VB6 app using MS Access2003 database ODBC connection in Windows Server 2008my connection string is simple ODBC-- DSN=hotel -- using Microsoft Access Driver (.mdbusing admin user - i can run all forms on windows server 2003 successfullyusing other users - i get "permission denied error 70"I have 2 problems,1- cannot use software in terminalservices using remote desktop to server @Windows Server 2008i have 10 machines connected using Remote desktopfor a limited user, >> permission deniedif i cange the limited user to admin >> things work but ONLY FOR THAT USER!ALL OTHER USERS THEN HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE SOFTWARE, some exit, some cannot fetch data, etc.
I have built an application in VB 2010 on my Windows 7 Pro desktop. I have a particular combo box with a datasource that is dynamically populated, depending on certain values entered by the user; it may or may not have any records in the datasource. When I run/install the application on my desktop, the combo box acts normal, if I click the dropdown button and the datasource contains no records, the combobox will show a single blank beneath the combobox (to indicate no records). When I perform the same action on server 2003, the combobox DOES NOT show a blank row, it does nothing! It act's like it's broken.
creating remote desktop connection in vb.net using Microsoft Terminal Services(msrdp.ocs). The main objective is to remote monitor clients without interrupting them or knowing they are monitored.
I'm developing a Windows application that runs on a terminal server and users connect to it via remote desktop. Standard stuff. However, I would like to know something about the user and I was wondering if there's a way to get some information about the client that the user connects from (his local machine).
I have a Windows Forms application created in VS2005 which runs fine on the user desktop but when running in Terminal Server session it frequently locks up when the remote desktop window is minimised and the user is working locally. There is plenty of RAM on the server so this is not an issue, the only solution so far has been to force the user session to log off on the Terminal Server and then reconnect.
I am trying to write a Windows Script that will allow me to monitor the following: That 2 x seperate but specific processes within Component Services "Running Processes" list are currently running and have not reset within the past hour. If I already know the PID, then I can retrieve the CreationDate (I assume which I can use to check for restarts? or is this the actual process creation/installation date) for each specific process, however if a restart occurs the PID will change and my script needs to know what the new PID is without me telling it!
I have an application that will run on a terminal similar to a micros terminal. The terminal is already running another vendors app that captures the users logon ID from a swipecard. I need to capture the same logon ID at the same time. This is no problem, I just hook it.
The problem is I have another app which also captures swipes. In development I am running both apps for testing. It appears that when I unhook one app it unhooks both. Rehook and all is fine. As my two apps will never be on the same terminal this is not a problem. What I am concerned about is the vendors app unhooking mine or the other way around.
I would of thought that each app would have it's own ID and that each hook would be independent. I have considered finding a way to determine if a global hook is present and then use some logic to decide on unhooking or not but can't find anything.
I want to use the c# write a programe to get the logon session information.I use the WTS_INFO_CLASS Enumeration refrenced to the msdn library, the url link is [URL]
Everything is ok except the WTSClientBuildNumber property. The WTSClientBuildNumber that I get is 5875288,but it should be 6001.I use the 6.0.6001 RDC for my test. Can anyone tell me the problem.
The following is my sample code
If WTSQuerySessionInformation2(ptrOpenedServer, active_session, WTS_INFO_CLASS.WTSClientBuildNumber, istr, returned) = True Then ClientInfo.WTSClientBuildNumber = istr.ToString() End If
I need to check on several services to see if they're running on several servers. I would like the program to tell me if a specific service is or is not running and if it is to reply with a msg stating which service is running, same if it is not running.
this is what i have so far:
Private Sub CheckServiceButton_Click_1(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles CheckServiceButton.Click ' This will check if the service is running '
I am currently working on a silverlight project with RIA Services and have seem to come across a bug(or wrote a new one).In a simple query I am retrieving a entity model from the server. In the server side service class a DateTime is correct(to what's in the db) but on the client it seems to go back 24 hours and maybe 10 hours...6/04/2009 12:00:00 AM (Database) turns into 5/04/2009 2:00:00 PM and also displays as 5/4/2009 12:00:00 AM.
I'm looking for a way to get details of the name and status of all services running on a service. I did use the following code: Public Sub GetServices() Dim localServices As ServiceController() = ServiceController.GetServices() For Each service As ServiceController In localServices If Not String.IsNullOrEmpty(service.DisplayName) Then dictservice(service.DisplayName) = New Service(service.DisplayName, service.ServiceName, service.Status.ToString) End If Next End Sub However, since I have packaged up my project as a WCF service, the System.ServiceProcess namespace I used cannot be used: Is there any other way I can retrieve the same details? Possibly through WMI?
I am building a client in VB.net for calling webservices methods from a partner organisation.[URL]../system.web.services.protocols.soaphttpclientprotocol%28v=VS.71%29.aspx because I can't get it to work using the Web References feature of Visual Studio 2010 (when I try to do that it turns the methods from the WSDL into classes).I have created a proxy class and can instantiate an object of that class no problem.
However, when I try to call a method which requires arguments I get this error:
Unmarshalling Error: unexpected element (uri:"http://api.service.apimember.emailvision.com/", local:"key"). Expected elements are <{}key>,<{}login>,<{}pwd> Does anyone have any idea why this might be? (If it's helpful I can post my code and the location of the WSDL.) (P.S. I can get the whole thing to work fine in PHP using ZF Soap classes, but for various reasons I need to get it to work using .Net)
Edit to add: I have used Wireshark to examine the outgoing and incoming SOAP message to compare them with the messages being sent via SoapUI, where it all works fine. What this has shown is that my VB client is sending a message where the namespace of the web service I am trying to access is declared as an attribute of the method, and not in the soap:envelope attributes.
I have developed a vb.net database application(desktop application with sql 2005).I managed to create setup files(.msi) which is running on my pc.but when i install this application on my client system the application is running but all database operations fails.
i just wrote a simple java script function which will return true or false, even when the function returns false my server side button click event was firing. this is not happening regularly. i am using vs 2010 and ie 8 and vb.net 3.5, this is not happening all the time [Code]
I have developed a windows application which connects to Oracle Database and upload and retrieve data (using System.Data.OracleClient). It is working fine in my developement system. When I build a setup and deploy in another system, it is giving error that Oracle Client is missing.
Do I have to install Oracle Client in the client system to run my application? (When I visit Oracle site for Oracle Client, it is asking me to download a 200 MB file)
Is there any other way to do this with out installing Oracle Client in the client system?
I have extended an Entity Framework 4 entity class with a calculated property in a partial class. This member is not available on the client to which the entities are exposed via WCF RIA Services.when using C# appears to be changing the extension of the partial class file from .cs to .shared.cs. I tried this with my VB.Net solution (.vb to .shared.vb) and got a long list of errors. I believe what happened is that the partial class lost its association with the entity on the client - it inherited from object rather than EntityObject.
My best guess is that this is related to the way that VB.Net handles namespaces. Each project has a 'Root Namespace' which is prepended to anything that is defined within a code file. C# has a 'Default Namespace'which is the namespace into which new types are placed by default - via a namespace statement within the file. The partial class is probably having the client namespace prepended to it which puts it into a different namespace than the entity with which it is associated on the server. Is there any means of extending an entity in such a way that those extensions are available on the client via WCF RIA Services and VB.Net?
