.net - VB App Windows TS Thin Client Unique ID?

I have a custom bar code app running on .Net 2.0 framework and installed on a Windows Terminal Server. I'm using HP type thin clients and they are pulling their desktop from the TS that has my barcode app installed on it.For the most part, the barcode app runs with no problem. The only issue I have, is that my barcode app needs to print labels to a specific printer based on the work center that the thin client is located in. The barcode app was designed to route the labels based on the device name (Windows name) of the system that the barcode transaction originated from.I have full blown Windows XP Pro systems also running the barcode app and I have no problem with the label routing because each of those type systems has a unique name that I can use for routing. Where I'm running into a problem is that the barcode app running from the thin clients, appears (from the barcode app's point of view) to running from the Terminal Server not the individual thin clients.
Does anyone have any idea how I can pull some type of unique identifier from these thin clients to use within the barcode app to use for routing of the labels?

We want to set up a bunch of thin clients linked to a server running server 2003 using terminal services. When the thin client runs our app it needs to know which station it is so it can gather information unique to itself from the database. (IP address?). Our app is written in VB6.

I'm currently developing an application on Visual Basic (2010) which requires the use of a Thin Client's serial port. I have already activated the port mapping, and tested the communication (successfully) with PuTTY. How ever when trying to use my software y receive a message The selected port name is invalid, or it is not a serial port.I have already made some successful tests with a common PC with positive results.

I've made a simple knowledgebase program which contains example documents. The documents are stored in a folder, and in an accessdatabase stands the information about the documents.The program also includes a simple search option. The program itself is located in a folder on a network computer.It has to be a network program for collegues can add other examples.Now it gets weird. at least in my opinion.When I run the program locally -> no problem.When I run the program from another network PC -> no problem.But when I run the program from a network Thin Client -> shaboom..At least when I enter a search option and the connection to the database is opened:"Application attempted to perform an operation not allowed by the security pollcy. To grand this application the required permission, contact you system administrator or use the Microsoft .NET framework configuration tool."[code]Now I've found a LOT of topics in this forum and many others, and it's clear that apps from another network location are run without "full trust". And the trust issue can be handled with caspol or web.config. Although caspol is a mystery to me and web.config didn't seem to work.But since it's so explicitly crashing on Thin Clients.

Anyone know of a unique identifier I can grab from a Windows PC?I am working on licensing of my app and I want to assign the user a license key and have the key and some unique piece of data from the PC hit a database server of mine and then check credentials before the program runs.I thought about using host name but that can be cloned. I also thought of MAC address but if a computer has a wired and wireless NIC then there are multiple MAC addresses.

I am using VB .Net to access the eBay API and store all completed orders in a database. This database is then fed into a proprietary shipping system, which can not handle an order number larger than 20 characters. eBay returns an order number like so 230407279314-680141236013 which is too long. The order number is always 12 numbers a hyphen and 12 more numbers. What I need to do, is turn this (the result can be alpha numerical) into a shorter, unique order key to store in my database alongside the true orderId (so that this can be referenced by the shipping software instead of the actual order number). The reason for the 20 character limit is the barcode algorithm used. Is there any way to achieve this in VB .Net 2010? This number can be anything unique, so long as it does not exist already (even a good uniqueid function would work, but I would have to query the database to make sure it isn't taken)

Is it possible to make the scrollbars in my webbrowser a thin black line which moves up and down, instead of the usual ones?So its just a black line (maybe 3pt thick) which is OVER the content, on the right hand side. So as you scroll the black line changes size like a normal scrollbar, but it isn't separated from the content, its actually over the top of it.Sort of like the scrollbars on an iPhone if you've seen them.

I'm making a workflowdesigner to create workflows on a canvas with wpf and vb.net. I have made it possible to draw lines(relations) between objects with a nice function. Now I want to implement a way to delete a relation. I add a onclick handler on the shape but the line is very thin and hard to click. I've heard to draw 2 lines 1 with a thicker stroke thickness, but this isn't possible since the drawline method is heavy on the cpu.

Unique constraint - these columns currently doesn't have unique values..?? I have created Unique Constraint with 3 columns. My code works perfectly but once - two users @ same time entered same data and somehow it saved in DB; after that incident. This UniqueConstraint gives me error - These columns currently doesn't have unique values. How can I check if user enters this kind of entry or how can I restrict the Entry?

I have developed 2-3 standalone windows application using VS2008(vb.net) + Sql server (2008,2005) and quite comfortable with stand alone windows application. Now i am trying to make a windows app which will share a server database on LAN. I googled alot about this but still no success. So i decided to make that as stand alone app and i just changes the connection string to use remote server database. Everything is working fine still. All the insert, update and delete query are same as stand alone n me not getting any problem while testing through one more remote client system. But while googling i heard abt "CONCURRENCY" control.So please guide me is anything wll b wrong in future wid my this application when i will deploy this to my users? What about locks and how can i implement this to my Insert, update and delete queries to control concurrency and maintain integrity ?Please guide me step by step becoz i m new be to client/server application.

I'm trying to build a multithreaded SMPP client with VS2008 and I'm getting bogged down in threading. Basically my main parent thread will interact with the windows service scheduler, get registry settings, and get a list of SMPP servers to connect to. Then it will launch a thread for each SMPP connection, which will need to keep it's TCP socket open to receive messages with, so the thread must remain running even if there aren't any events happening (no messages to receive)... but I can't seem to get it figured out.

The Start sub in the oChannel object does run, but once that sub is finished running the thread ends. In the Start sub, it calls other code that initiates a connection to the remote SMPP server, but that code asynchronously waits for an event to be raised regarding the connection status. Once the sub finishes, the async connection being attempted doesn't seem to be able to pin the thread down.

I am writing a Windows form application where a client has the ability to add as many chart as needed in the form by clicking at an icon in the menu bar at run time. These charts will have the same format, and I will have them linked to a text box for the client to select which entity to chart.I have no clue where to start. I have a form with a list that shows information from a database. I want the list the update in run time (or almost real time) every time something changes in the database. These are the three ways I can think of to accomplish this:Set up a timer on the client to check every few seconds: I know how to do this now, but it would involve making and closing a new connection to the database hundreds of times an hour, regardless of whether there was any change Build something sort of like a TCP/IP chat server, and every time a program updates the database it would also send a message to the TCP/IP server, which in turn would send a message to the client's form: I have no idea how to do this right now Create a web service that returns the date and time of when the last time the table was changed, and the client would compare that time to the last time the client updated: I could figure out how to build a web service, but I don't how to do this without making a connection to the database anyway The second option doesn't seem like it would be very reliable, and the first seems like it would consume more resources than necessary. Is there some way to tell the client every time there is a change in the database without making a connection every few seconds, or is it not that big of a deal to make that many connections to a database?
